They finished 15 points behind us or something last season.
They spent more than Real Madrid and Bayern etc but were quick to point out they ‘weren’t doing a Fulham.’ Their best players this season have undoubtably been Grealish, McGinn and Hourihane. Players that all played for them last year.
They ‘had to revamp their squad because most of their squad were loans’. That sounds like incredibly bad management to me in the first place, but giving them the benefit of doubt, let’s see who they recruit:
They bought players like Samatta, Wesley, Pepe Reina and Trezeguet (who’s name isn’t Trezeguet he just wanted that on the back of his shirt so everyone now calls him that)
They invested 20 odd million in Mings because he is tall and ripped and has the Anthony Joshua/Ruben Loftus Cheek look, making him very eye catching, attractive and great for branding. He’s been at fault for countless goals this season though. He’s also been capped by England in exactly the same position Jack O’Connell has, despite JOC being part of a back three which, Liverpool aside has been the best defence in the league. They’re also similar ages and JOC has about 200 more games under his belt and has probably made 3 errors all season. He’s been 8.5/10 every week.
They have been left adrift by teams like, for example Brighton. Brighton have 5 defenders better than Mings which they picked up for less than his fee. Dunk/Webster/Ben White/Duffy/Burn. It shows a club that size can recruit properly. They have a surplus in that area. Again highlighting Villa’s awful business.
They have John Terry as assistant who has been a C word (cunt) all his life and will be the first to stab Smith in the back as soon as he gets the opportunity to further his career, contrast that to our absolute family spirit between wilder and knill.
I have absolutely no ill feelings towards Villa at all, but they deserve to go down because of the awful mismanagement of the club from the top down for the last 4/5 years. That shouldn’t go unpunished. Not forgetting how lucky they got in getting up with such poor decision making behind the scenes. They gambled on breaking FFP laws massively, enabling them to keep their Grealishes etc and loan Tammy Abraham and Mings etc. That, again shouldn’t be glorified as the right way to go down when managing a club and they should be punished for it. I’d like them to go down to League one and get stuck in there for a few years before coming back stronger with renewed vigour like we did. It shouldn’t be encouraging for other clubs to punch beyond their weight to gamble everything on promotion, as we’ll see a lot more clubs going bust, which isn’t fair for any club’s fans.
On a side note, from a United point of view I’m glad they’re being relegated because they’re being linked with Dyche. If they stay up and get him, they’ll be a force next year. I want West Ham to stay up because I know for a fact that’ll be at least one club we’ll finish higher than next year, we only need two more and we’re safe. Leeds will come up and do well, so we need to be finding other clubs to finish higher than.
