I understand the need to give him time and I’m certainly not advocating a knee-jerk sacking, but our form since the end of last season is more than a little worrisome, bad luck notwithstanding. (I would say, however, it was a case of us being lucky last season, as much as being unlucky this. How many teams go through a full season with barely any injuries like we did last year? We’ve got one or two this season and we look like a second tier team. We should have a squad that can cope with this.) What I don’t want is us to sleepwalk towards the half way mark with no more than a couple of points and a handful of goals on the board.
What Wilder has achieved for us has been unreal and I’ve loved it, but it’s in the past now and he isn’t as bulletproof for me as he is for some. He certainly doesn’t have free reign to take us down and stay on like some are suggesting. Not unless there’s some real, tangible improvement in the way we’re playing. Unfortunately he currently looks stubborn and devoid of any ideas other than his “tried and tested” system.
If we still look like going down without a fight around January time, he can go. If we’ve improved and we’re making a fist of it, he stays. A lot will also hinge on his performance in the transfer window. An area he’s been lacking in since our promotion.
