Norwood

Seriously, basing your argument on facts.

You've now made a lot of this thread redundant.

Come, what's wrong with guesswork?

You really have no place on these forums.

Sorry for that I wasn't thinking... It was late! I'll kidney punch a disabled child to rectify my error.

That's how it works right?

Possibly stupid question here and apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere...

It seems to be widely accepted (by us supporters) that Berge’s real position is the deep lying “Norwood” role and it seems most people expect to see Berge in this position when we get going again in September.

Does this mean we are expecting to see Norwood dropped? With Berge in his place and Fleck and a new CM in front of him? Or do we expect to see Norwood played out of position further up?

If he’s dropped then we have a captain and vice captain largely starting on the bench. Who’s the on-field captain? Basham? Egan?

Egan finished as captain against Southampton I believe

He did indeed - and I think Wilder may have mentioned him being a ‘future captain’, so could well be the preferred choice.

I don't think Norwood will get dropped from the team anytime soon.

He's had a superb season as shown by those stats. Does a hell of a lot of work for us off the ball in terms of covering, marking and he's 'putting his foot in' a lot more, partly of course due to the fact we've had far less possession.

He is of course vital to us on set pieces too - something that can't be underestimated.

Agreed. That’s kind of where my question comes from, don’t see Norwood getting dropped - so Berge has to stay where he is or Norwood has to change position (unless the formation/approach is tweaked to have two deep lying midfielders and Fleck in front of him)?

Judging by the reported transfer targets I think CW is looking to achieve a squad where every position has direct competition.

We've had to use Berge in a different role because of our lack of cover at RCM.

Berge and Norwood I think will be in direct competition for a place. If we can get that level of comp around the team then that'd be fantastic.

If Berge's performance in his supposedly better position at Southampton is anything to go by , then there is no way on Earth he should be replacing Norwood in that role .

Whilst in the first half he was ok , his second half performance was dire and included getting caught out of position too far up the pitch several times , followed by an amble back which had all the enthusiasm and alacrity of an elephant with a hangover .

I seem to recall Deadbat remarking that on that second half performance he would have given him 3/10 . He doesn't very often get it wrong and didn't on this occasion .

Ollie Norwood is a fine player who has the occasional (very) off day , just like every other footballer I can think of . If for any reason he is not a regular in our side next season there is no doubt in my mind that our results would suffer as a consequence .
