I think Ollie's fantastic, and a real asset to us while Coutts works up to fitness. Yesterday, for 70 minutes I think he was brilliant, not only collecting the ball out of defence (as he always does), but more positive in his range of passes. As mentioned above, it looks like he can play the switch balls with his eyes closed he makes it look so simple

He's no Barry Banana though is he

Simply the best midfielder we've had since the halcyon days of the magnificent Tony Currie.

These two also have something else in common in that they don't kick the ball like everybody else but they effortlessly CARESS the passes to teammates.

Wonderful to watch and I still don't get how CW got him cos he's got to be up there with the best in the division.

In case it flies over and the crowd jumps on them, you mean?
Yes but not so much as in 'jump on them'. In some cases the crowd applauds but there are other times where there may be a groan and this may be a risk the player doesn't want to take going forward in the game.

Last October, I thought our midfield three of Fleck, Coutts and Duffy was exceptional. Norwood has taken it up another level. He can pass, tackle, create and score and is our best all-round midfielder since Michael Brown.

Your point appears to be that you don't want midfielders to go forward and score.
I disagree

My point is he’s not that kind of player. If they all did it, we’d have no cover. If only two do it, I’d rather it was Duffy and Fleck.

Norwood is there to switch play and get us started. Look how deep he drops. Horses for courses - the marauding is for Fleck and Duffy.

I'll add that I thought the same Vs Preston. When our heads went for that 5 minute spell it looked to me like he actively didn't want the ball, and we were completely at sea. I think he needs to be stronger in being calm headed, and not joining the rest of the team in playing like its the 95th minute.

Fantastic addition overall though. Just needs to play like he does for the full game.
that's where Couttsy comes in.. when we are in full panic mode Couttsy is usually the outball. we just give it him and he takes the piss out of the oppo for a couple of minutes as they try and get the ball of him :)

Agreed, and I wondered if Coutts might come on actually to help with just that.

When we had Coutts playing he would drive forward at times and Fleck would sit in, this would lessen the workload on Fleck and it’s the reason Fleck would get stronger as the game went on, making more driving runs.

Now, if Norwood wants to integrate fully into our system he must drive forward more and have more shots, that’s all that’s missing from his time with us, I know he can do it because he used to do it at Huddersfield on a regular basis. Wilder went mad at him the other night when he didn’t drive forward so I think we’ll see a different player from now on otherwise Coutts, who will be chomping at the bit will get his natural spot back.

Think you will find that they provide cover for each other.
Norwood stays back as cover when Bash and Jack go marauding up the field.
Fleck also provides this cover when Norwood get up the field
If Jack gets too high up on the overlap Enda often drops back a little.
The same with Bash and Freeman.
Just don't get your argument that he is special and not allowed to attack when every other member of this team except the goalkeeper is allowed.

I see what you’re saying but I think we need some balance (and he’s best to provide it) and some darting forward (Duffy and Fleck being better at that). Do you expect it from Coutts for instance?

I used to sit near the dugout and Coutts was Wilders Bitch. He was always yelling at him to do this, do that, cover this, cover that.
I think that's the reason that he has got so good by taking notice of what the manager is telling him and improving his all-round game.
Last year he was getting into more forward positions and being encouraged to take a shot. Unfortunately that's how he ended up breaking his leg...

Coutts did do it, that’s why his game improved to the next level.

Just how good were the balls he played this afternoon, in the build up to goals 3 and 4?

WHAT a signing he has been. :)

Actually, let's make that 4 (if we include Duff as a midfielder)*

*apologies for quoting myself. Don't want to get all woodwardfan on our collective ass. Just ran out of time to edit my first post.
