Norwood on pens

Penalties are a weird thing. Pretty much every player that’s taken one has missed one. The fact that Norwood consistently puts himself forward to take one, despite missing several shows the confidence he has in himself. And also the confidence that the team have in him.

There will be several players that will never put themselves forward to take one. Some don’t like that pressure and it can also affect players more to miss. I won’t hang them out to dry either

I think we probably need a new penalty taker but I also think that if Norwood steps up again I’d back him to hit the target. Whether he scores will be down to more than just luck as you’ve also got a keeper there trying to stop him. It’s not a free hit
Just let John Matthews take them

He isn’t mentally strong enough to be taking penalties. The play off game drew a big fat red line under that point. And again on Saturday, once again, he stood on the spot waiting while the keeper yapped at him. The keepers are playing a game they know breaks him. If he insists on just standing there and waiting, then he should have turned and handed the ball to someone else to throw a spanner in the world of the keepers mind games. That would have been the smart psychological moved to put the keeper off.
I don’t know your back ground but I’d trust Norwoods, the team and coaches/ managers judgement as to whether he’s mentally strong enough over yourself, with all due respect.

As I said, I think unless Billy is on, in which case it’s not an issue, it’s probably smart to rotate the penalty taker and how the pen is taken a little bit given that all keepers seem to know where opposition players prefer to put pens.

Here come the facts. He's taken a total of 7 and scored 4

In actual matches he has taken 3 and scored 2.

Millwall 22/23 - MISSED
Watford 19/20 - SCORED
Brentford 18/19 - SCORED

Penalty shootouts he has taken 4 and scored 2.

Forest 21/22 - MISSED
Southampton 21/22 - SCORED
Burnley 20/21 - SCORED
Hull 18/19 - MISSED

His record wasn't dreadful, he had scored 4 out of 6 before Saturday
You come on here, throwing around your "fancy facts" like your David bloody Attenborough.

What about the rest of us? Relying on our own prejudiced memories to build our arguments upon. Bastard😡

Is Lewishamblade and FallowfieldBlade the same person, they're opinions seem pretty much alike.
Why’s that fella? Because we think Norwood shouldn’t be on pens? 😂😂

What an outrageously outlandish opinion to have that a lad who’s missed his last 2 pens for us shouldn’t be on pens. Crazy right?

I’m open to suggestions how my opinions are alike to Fallowfields though. Please show workings out.

I thought Norwood was a good choice to take a pen, he strikes the ball well and I thought he would score. Turns out he missed.
There is no guarantee Berge or Brewster would have scored either.
Anyone (aside from Matt Le Tissier) who regularly takes pens will miss a few as well as score some.

There's an argument that a bloke who only shoots at goal once every half dozen games perhaps should relinquish the role for someone who is capable of putting the ball in the net once in a while.

They should all adopt the Le Tissier technique of a right footer going the right hand side of the goal (keeper's left) then if the keeper moves you can twist your body the other way and stick it the opposite side or down the middle. If you've committed to going left from the outset, thats the only place you can put it.

He doesn’t take that penalty at 0-0, this was a gimme to try get back on the wagon and he choked. You don’t need to be a coach to know when you’re looking at someone that isn’t strong enough upstairs to take a penalty - how many times do they say it in commentary about all athletes when you can tell they are not right. Happens in all spots and you can tell just by looking at Norwood he’s not strong enough to step up anymore. He’s basically got PTSD from the playoffs and this was his chance at redemption. He is shot mentally when it comes to penalties

Come on fallows stop toying with me

He’d missed the pen before he even ran up on Saturday….keeper came out bounced the ball on the spot after Norwood put it down giving him verbals. Same way that Samba was in the play offs. Not even sure he bothered to reset himself after that.

I’m convinced the keeper knew exactly where he was going, they do their homework these days and Norwood always goes the same side. You can even see the keeper move to that side before Norwood even gets to the ball. He’d lost the mind games before he even started his run up.

That's why I said in chatbox at the time he should have gone central given it's the first pen of the season. They'll all have done their homework as to a preferred side at the start of a year and will sell out on it, perfect spot (especially at 2-0) to retain a balanced distribution

A right footer going to the keepers right shocker, if you're doing that it has to be an almighty good penalty. It wasn't.

Last one I remember Sharp taking he missed

Do wonder if it's just a case of improper randomisation. If you can't hit it like Kane and hit the top corner every time, just rock/paper/scissors with someone, if you win go keeper's left, lose keeper's right, if you tie twice in a row go down the middle. Completely unexploitable.
The top penalty takers wait for the keeper to move, they don't even look at the ball.

Norwood was the designated penalty taker so would have taken the pen at 0 0.
Hecky’s too organised to let the players decide on the fly and quite right too.
