Woodburn was the main disappointment. Had a good chance to impress and failed. He's rightly going to be compared with Brooks, and on the evidence so far he's inferior - and he's not even ours to keep and develop.

Also, that Wilder even feels the need to start Clarke in a cup game highlights how reliant on him we'll be and that we need to sign proper competition for him. Especially when he's out of form, as he is now.

Agree with amost all that. Norwood was excellent. Showing for the ball constantly and pinging cross field passes with ease. Him and fleck together looked a real threat and looked as though they played 30 games together.

Woodburn was disapointing but I do think he was trying a bit too hard. Showed some classy touches but nothing seemed to come off for him.

Overall a great game of football and well worth the money.

Coronation Street must have been good tonight to keep many of the Bladey Blades away!

I'm not saying Brooks was consistent, but he has that bit of something special and I just haven't seen that in Woodburn.

He played badly timed passes tonight and passed up good opportunities to shoot, that's not what I expect of him.

True, In his career at SU Brooks had a bit of the Raheem Sterling when playing for England syndrome.

You can tell he’s got talent, opposition defenders seemed concerned as soon as Brooks received the ball
But often last season Brooks always flattered to deceive, too lightweight.
He did look a star in the making though, great balance with the odd piece of skill.

Head and shoulders above anyone else tonight, except maybe flecks 20 min cameo.

Yes it was a nothing game to some fans and maybe some players, but he controlled the game, and made some superb passes. Very close after one game to how Coutts was at his best last year. Can clearly see why he hasn’t been in the side of 2 promoted teams in 2 seasons.

Can anyone in the Championship claim to have a better midfield 3 than Coutts, Norwood and Fleck?

It was a 4-4-2 diamond when Basham came on, with Norwood at the back, Fleck left (when he came on) and Basham right, Woodburn as the attacking midfielder. Agreed that we looked much better. Norwood looks a very good player but (as I recall a few Fulham/Brighton fans saying) it didn't really work when he was in a central 2 with Lundstram.

Think it's very strange that Leon didn't take a penalty. Is his confidence that shot?

Leon is without doubt the big topic at the moment. I don’t get some of the venom aimed his way though. He’s clearly struggling with confidence and desperately needs a goal. Dropping him is all well and good and maybe a spell on the bench would ease the pressure but we have no other striker who can hold the ball as well as he can and nobody can deny his work off the ball. This is where we need the quality back up but in the meantime need to get behind him. After last season it’s the least he deserves

Agree with pretty much all that. Norwood was different gravy and him and Fleck worked beautifully. Once Coutts comes back we could have the best midfield outside the premier. Also thought Woodburn was poor but he needs to be given a chance (not ready to replace Scruffy though by any measure). Thought Egan looked very comfortable on the ball although the defence was dodgy for the first 60mins (could easily have been 4 nil down by then). All in all a really good game UTB

I thought clarke had a good game but failed in the most important task faced by a striker... putting the ball in the net, he can't blame it on chance creation tonight, we created him at least 3 where he shouldve be scored. He needs to be more clinical, especially in this division.

Sharp proved he knows where the net is given the chance, and I'm sure he would've tooked away at least 2 of Clarke's chances - the one where he dinked it over the GK in the 1st and the open goal from the cut back from the right in the 2nd.

I keep saying it but we need a proper CF who can play up top on their own. Leon had the attributes but he's 33, out of form and (potentially) losing athleticism/fat.

Sharp isn't physically up to it. Use him in a 2. McG is a luxury player and made of plastercine.

You should have mentioned this before!

Sounds like a striker is likely to be inbound towards the end of the loan window. Think it has to be Clarke & Sharp until then.
