Sorry if there's a thread on this already or if its been discussed in depth elsewhere, searched and I couldn't see it.

I've only just really noticed how little football we're going to get to see for the foreseeable future.

There's only 3 televised games announced so far for us between now and the new year and we cant go to the lane.

Theres fuck all to look forward to. I know theres a few streaming services which I'll have to sign up to, and I'm sure I'll find a pub showing it somewhere

Still, its really disappointing that every fixture won't be televised like the back end of last season. What's everyone's thoughts and plans?

I’m hoping that the clubs will be allowed to stream the games themselves. Any announcement would naturally need to be last minute so that Sky couldn’t complain that it had stopped people from subscribing to their service. Sky and the clubs would both benefit, so a win:win if done right.

I cant see non televised games not being able to be viewed by fans. Not sure what the uptake was of pre-season pass but at £10 a game even if they managed to get 10,000 bought for a PL match thats £100,000 nothing to be sniffed at. Also can't see it being a threat to the TV contract either.

I'm as dissapointed as anyone re there not being the same level of coverage as the period after lockdown but I'm not sure where you're getting the 3 televised games from?

The PL live games have only been announced for September and we're on once or 33% of our games for that period.

I still think there will be some sort of compromise before fans can get back into grounds but it may well be last minute before it's announced.

Some nob from the Premier League was really bigging up the radio coverage the other day as if thats a viable alternative..!! They have to get real it could years before stadiums are full.. they have to provide some legitimate way for fans to be able to watch games.

Must admit I find it a bit odd that there is still no clear picture as to how the average fan can get to see games.

Although I’m sure the Premier League aren’t going to miss a trick to monetise and promote their product by showing the games live it’s making it hard to look forward to the new season.

They are doing clubs out of money. why can,t every premier club be allowed to show their game live.when not picked by Sky etc.

Something will happen, just wait out. If the SPL and EFL can sort private broadcasts of all home team games by club, the EPL are hardly likely to miss out.

Really? They paid £5 billion for these rights, but you think they should just rip those contracts up?
Why should they allow the clubs to make revenues outside of themselves when they've paid a huge price for the exclusivity of their products?
I think fans are just looking at this through the lenses of them wanting to see all games and bollocks to what that means.

Would you be supportive if the broadcasters agreed but then only wanted to pay a fraction of the £5bn?
You are also advocating individual clubs opening up their own PPV channel, so no more collective bargaining which ensures the wealth is spread. That would mean a much lower broadcasting deal from the TV companies due to the loss of exclusivity and the big clubs making even more money with which we have to compete.
There is also the 3pm blackout as well which will be removed entirely by this and would be unlikely to be reintroduced.

If we are going to go down this all games screened route then I think something should be in the new TV which another poster (apologies) mentioned which mirrors what they have in the US, and the revenues are still split. However you can't do that within the structure of the current deal which doesn't expire for another 2 years, so unless you get across the board agreements from all broadcasters to amend their current deals, it would appear a none-starter.

Extra channel was on freesat during lockdown. Charge via clubs to subscribe. Fairly easy options sky bt can't lose. Will sell to more viewers worldwide, still be able to have adverts.

Whilst im sure something will happen for the early parts of the season in terms of all games being available via a platform, people need to be careful what they wish for. People's habits can change quickly, and the desire to go to stadiums will slowly but surely start to ebb away the longer this goes on, and the more matches are available on TV. People get used to watching at home / pub, it might be cheaper, more social etc etc and fit with lifestyles as less time consuming (i.e. no need to travel to grounds, back home etc..how many of us when watching project restart as soon as the final whistle went got on with making tea, seeing to kids etc etc).

Personally speaking i want to get back to stadiums as soon as possible, safely of course, because the idea of watching utd on the box every week isnt very appealing and i am slowly losing a bit of interest in it all.

Single supplier isn't it for EFL games? A bit more complicated for Sky, BT, Amazon.

Could just have a single supplier or share workload then send matches around networks. Only complicated if the broadcasters wish it to be.

That makes a lot of sense, but surely if all the 3PM games, not normally included in the 200 games per season packages, were now made available to them to broadcast until full crowds can retrun, it would be a source of extra revenue?

If Sky got the majority, like they did in Restart, that wouldn't threaten their exclusivity would it? Pay per view sales and the potential to bring in new customers via that, as well as the extra advertising etc would surely be in their interest.

Edit: probably the cost to them to cover a game would be a factor, but they it did this in the Champ with all those red button mid week games

It's certainly doable, however will SKY want to be the bad guys who charge for it and take the negative press?
If I were advising the TV guys, I'd been suggesting the broadcasters provide the program and let the clubs/PL give the bad news and charge. That would mean they will want money to deliver the service, and the clubs/league charge the fans.
It also waters down the deal they had with more games being available, BT could be more attractive to some lower league fans who aren't interested in a particular team but them having 3-4 games a week makes them a better option that Sky even if they have 10 matches a week.
I'm not saying it's beyond the wit of man, I'm just saying it's not as easy and straightforward as some make it sound, mainly because these organisations paid a large chunk of change to get them in the first place and these contracts aren't simple or straightforward to pick at or renegotiate.

The point I was trying to make let clubs use their own streaming.WHILE we have COVID rules etc.i know sky and bt have paid a lot of money.and if/when covid has gone.return to normal.

I personally think it's only a matter of time before there is change from the current TV deal of X amount of live matches selected by each broadcaster. There is that much live football on TV these days that the interest in watching a neutral match isn't there for me anymore, just look at the FA cup final as proof of that. The only matches I'm interested in watching are United, matches which will affect United's league position and seeing Wednesday/Leeds lose.

The future has to allow fans of every club to watch their team live if they can’t attend due to sell outs or global pandemics. The cameras are there anyway so it's not like it will cost anymore money to make it happen.

I'm sure the majority on here are aware of the many options for watching an illegal stream, however I'd gladly pay to watch our matches on a legal service. There is no comparison between watching a match on a dodgy stream with watching a match legally on Sky, BT or Amazon.
