As someone who last watched Blue Peter when Val Singleton and Lesley Judd were the "eye candy", she looks about the best thing that's happened to BBC kids telly in 50 years! When's BP on these days?

Actually agree with your point to some extent, though generally what other fans think en mass will give some sort of indication about the player - esepcially the more knowlegable ones (not necceassarily the most vocal or opinionated!).

Okay. I trust Cluff's judgement on players, tactics and management. I trust also he has said to the board, even at the interview, 'I think we need to sort the squad out'. I'd like to believe they got his message. I'd say that his pledge to rebuild the squad in the summer is in line with certain players' contracts expiring but ... there needs to be major input right now, to stave of an inevitable, inexeroble, car smash-like fall into the relegation zone. Remember, we were actually this complacent and upbeat about 'everything being alright' during recent relegation campaigns and guess what? We ended up in Div 3. We kinda don't need to tempt fate any more because just as we vaguely imagined getting out of the Championship back into the PL would be sort-of okay and not much of a problem, then when we spent a few years testing that notion and ended up spending our time labouring to get out of the division below, can you actually envisage the Saturn V-like effort it would take to free us of the gravity of Div 2? In front of 9000 or less fans? Cluffy has done his best with a bad bunch. He needs the tools to finish the rest. Brayford isn't the singular answer to our shit problems. Nor is Paynter. There is not double standard in this logic.

So, the recent batch of duds is all down to Weir? I’d counter that the manager approaches the board based upon scouting reports and tables his case for squad augmentation based upon a good sporting judgement. The board approve the purchase based upon this and (hopefully) some advice from other sources. As for replacements, I don’t have the touchline advantage the club has. Certainly, we have seen some decent players from well-less-financially-placed clubs come and go from BDTBL in the past few seasons and some have impressed, even banged in a few key goals against us. Madden, for one example. I am sure there are more. And that is just in the clubs around us. Do they have transfer-triggers in their contracts? Do you know that?

Well summaried, and of course a manager will have to justify each purchase on it's own merits. In a previous post I asked that, instead of saying which positions need filling, you suggest a set of decent replacements. I think that the majority of those who attend matches can identify positions that need strengthening. That's the easy part, finding said replacements will be a vastly different proposition to the punter's pastime of 'Let's Play Manager'.

You may well be right, there may be players at clubs we could approach. No idea who they might be, that's Nigel's job, so I'll leave him to sort this out.

Not really. I didn’t hire Weir. The board rolled the dice with Weir based upon nil past achievements and nil experience as a manager. I won’t break my heart if this naïve gamble failed. I am glad that they had the conkers to sack the inept fool, but I doubt Weir is too broken hearted given his payout –another foible built into his handshake by … the board.

The one who can hand a shopping list and prices to the board and say, ‘this is what I need to put us tenth in this league by the end of the season, and this is what I need in the close season to get us automatic’? Now we are in the final throes of the JTW and the team hovers precariously just above the drop zone, it seems we were wrongly led to assume the arrival of Abdullah meant anything of nothing. Unless in the next seven days we sign six or seven decent players.

McCabe was certainly foolish to use language that implied that we're wealthy and life would never be the same again.

Not very exciting signings, but anythings better than nowt. At least we're signing players we actually want to, as opposed to any old duffer who fancies a game like King, Forte and the rest, for the first time in god knows how long. Not too keen on loan signings though, if this Brayson geeeeeezer comes in and is the bees pyjamas, there's probably not much chance us actually being able to buy him. Even if prince chubby chops stumps up the dough, surely half the championship will be in for him too. Ain't gonna come here on a permo. Unless he turns out to be crap, but then what's the point signing him then. I hate loans.

It's on the kids channel (I didn't know ExeterBoy so I checked) and that well built lass in the photo isn't on it anymore. There was that blonde lass that did all the stunts from Cumbria way, she wasn't a bad looker but don't think she's on it anymore. Not sure who is on it anymore, best look out for the repeats if there are any for your satisfaction! :)

I think most on here will be pleased with the activity Clough has generated Hodgyman. There are the odd few who like to gripe for the sake of it (I've been having a similar discussion, if you can call it that, with a dyed-in-the-wool, my way or the highway type poster). Happy to see Clough is getting to grips with rebuilding, after all, he entered into a real disaster area when he arrived, so good on Nigel for being patient and getting the players he wants. UTB

Given our current situation, even with Cluffy in the seat, which action do you think will bring greater success to Sheffield United:

1. Signing credible new players
2. Leaving it to the close season

What? His point scoring? I have one issue. Why have we not signed more players during the JTW given we are in shit-street. IIYB seems to want to dismantle everything in some kind of self-aggrandising exercise of philosophical pointlessness, whilst never actually answering anything, readers please note.

There's 'runs for your money' then there's 'trolling'. I've had better of the former from my own kids.
