No point in building up your hopes when we get a free kick 40/50 yards from goal

In offside position
Well, you said just before. I asked when the kick was taken. Literally every team lines up one or more players in an offside position just before a free kick is taken. There are going to be very clear tactical advantages for doing this, probably because it makes it easier to screen out defenders if you are starting in a position nearer to the goal line than where the player is (which, as they're not playing the ball, is basically never given as offside). If the intended target of the free kick is offside then I'd agree with you, but that usually doesn't happen

If we had someone in charge with some tactical nouse, we might make a better fist of free kicks. But hinge and bracket can barely spell the word, never mind introduce the concept.
What does A Knill actually do, apart from pick up a generous wage?

Might as well have Sooty as Widers assistant

Because we insist on having 3 or 4 players in an offside position just before the free kick is being taken. It happened in the first half also during added time in the 2nd half. It made an easy job for the linesman to flag us for offside!
Couldn't agree more, basic movement.

It's literally their (inordinately well paid) job, being offside is such an avoidable drawback to escape from
