How do you go from 4 bids on a Monday to then saying

"We identified a target that would make us better, we were 3rd favourites and missed out on him and we cant see anyone else that will improve us"

Well who the hell were these four players we bid on?

He also states he doesn't want to take a punt on league one / two players - I'm sorry but there's some really good gems within those leagues, some of our best players were signed from that division, some of the best players in the league are from that league. It completely contradicts what he's previously said that "we're not snobs and we dont mind where we sign our players from"

That should be ‘We don’t mind where we sign our players from (as long as it’s one of the 4 professional leagues in England).’

It’s myopic not to explore the foreign market where prices haven’t gone crazy. If the infrastructure isn’t there we need to invest it so we avoid summers like this where we just can’t sign players of suffient quality to improve us.

I wanted Rob Staton to ask what had happened with the two permanent bids but that question wasn't asked, once Wilder had ruled out any permanent transfers. I also think we could improve our team from one or two from League One. Marriot was the main one and Maddison I'm sure would add some quality. I just hope we can get a decent loan in, but I think it'll probably be after Thursday because teams loaning out players will finally know that no other players are coming or going permanently. .

yep.. he's given up bringing people in . he's probably sick of being laughed at when he tells them what McCabe is prepared to pay. i don't blame him
wouldn't be surprised if JoC left though ;)

Staton bottled it. I think he sensed Wilder was in a bad mood. Wilder was being an arse with him to be honest, he deserved a grilling.

Wilder was being an arse but he was clearly so pissed off that he just let some of that out at Staton. It's not right but I couldn't really care about how Staton feels, he'll understand Wilder was pissed off.

I think we should let everyone who we're going to sign so the fans know what's going on and ..........................Oh, we've been doing that haven't we :(

Surely we must have at least one scout in every EU country? OK it’s hardly a massive scouting network having 20 odd scouts in Europe, but it might identify the odd talent we could look at signing?

You’d have thought wouldn’t you?

I’m sure McCabe has said previously we dont. Really You only need to hit on one signing like jota at Brentford for example and the entire investment has already paid for itself.

It’s short sighted at best to limit yourself to solely British players.

So from what CW said last night along the lines of "we've exhausted all options within budget that would improve us" we've tried and failed on all of our permanent targets and our main one Waghorn we could have got done if it wasn't for our low wage structure. Can't blame him for demanding more when Derby would offer him double what we would offer (like they probably have). It's extremely frustrating, from what I know when Wilder first walked through the door he made it one of the priorities to reconstruct our wage structure which the likes of Adkins and Clough I imagine made very complex and not ideal to manage. Wilder made our wage structure ideal for a top end L1 side, ensured one player wasn't on 6 grand and another was on 13 grand because he knows what problems that can cause such as players asking for more money/wanting to move for more money elsewhere so it upsets team moral. Problem we have now is that we are obviously in a division where a majority of teams have wage structures that are light years ahead of the ones in L1 and a lot higher than ours now. If we want to be signing the quality of players all of us want the only way that's happening is if we expand our structure to have players coming in on 20/30k a week but there's problems to that. 1) Doing that means we would have to offer new deals to the majority of our players putting them on money closer to what these players coming in would be on otherwise, in reasoning to Wilder not wanting to have players on this amount and that amount, players become jealous, ask for more money they don't get that they go elsewhere for it. We might not be financially capable at the moment to dish out new deals to players giving them alot more money just to keep them happy. 2) Are our owners or soon to be "owner" when one goes financially capable of paying a group of players a lot more than there earning now? or would he even be willing too?. I've heard Wilder say numerous times in interviews when asked regarding the wage structure etc mention the words "keep us financially secure" which suggests unless we have a complete change of ownership we might be stuck in this situation for a while cause they may not have that money there for us to be expanding our wage structure (unless they do but there tight b**tards). This is a big problem for us moving forward and it's not an easy one to sort out.

Apologies for it being lengthy.

Quite why we've let Adam Armstrong go to Blackburn for the price he has is beyond me. He'd improve us.

We need another striker who's better than Lavery, that shouldn't be hard to find.
Someone with a turn of pace, we are desperate.

Gallagher, Bradshaw, Hogan, Kayden Jackson, John Marquis, Idrissa Sylla, Dicko, Berahino (loan) all comfortably improve us at not a huge cost.

We'll get Donaldson part deux. Fast, but with legs that last 15 games. Under £100K.

It's probably the least of our worries. I'm more worried that we've spent money at the back, kept our team together, and that they've all turned to mush in the summer break.

Look like they've never played football.

as someone mentioned on twitter the post match interview was more terrifying than the 1st half. because we do need reinforcements & some defensive reorganision. we need pace in attack as we are too 1 paced

Zero points , 9 wins in 9 months we're in a relegation battle. If McCabe is thinking a competition that offers £300m prize at the end of it will be won by £5k a week players then start planning for league 1 next season. A reason why Wilders recruitment is struggling maybe the energy players required to deliver frontfoot football are at a premium and charge that way.

Will at least be funny seeing two owners fighting for a League One club that neither of them really wants .

Maybe that's why BRP has requested mediation.

What if he says to McCabe let's sell up jointly to whoever KM has waiting in the wings and you give me a slice of the bigger pie for me to unfreeze your assets?

Alternative you risk it all being peppercorn let to me when I take your shares for £5m

But unfortunately so were most of the players who have now been found out and cannot make it in this league based on hard work alone.

We have been saying we have exhausted the lower league route and snapped up all the best talent there but have we really? Were Evans and Lundstram really the best midfielders in League One when we bought them? I can concede Leonard as he was seen as one of the divisions leading lights but neither Wigan or Oxford fans were devastated to lose Evans and Lundstram.
