I wanted Wilder to stay, despite a disaster of a season in what has been a truly surreal year for all I believe he was the man best placed to lead us back to the PL. I think the club owed him the chance to prove he had indeed bought the cream of the championship.
However they are no certainties in football, who's to say that our dreadful run wouldn't have continued and who is to say that if he had got us back up his stubborn nature wouldn't have meant repeating the same mistakes as this year?
In the same way sacking Wilder doesn't equate to our ultimate demise and return to league 1. A lot will come down to the players who are sold. I'd like to think that any half decent manager would have this squad right up there.
I might end up being completely wrong with the club having a fire sale and appointing Jagielka as a cheap manager but this is a chance for the club to put in a proper structure and move into the 21st century. A director of football, proper international scouting network... something which many have been crying out for four years. If the Prince gets this appointment right it could be a great decision for the club long term if Wilder wasn't willing to adapt.
As much as I don't like Wilder going I'm not going to start thinking of what might have been we have some great memories under CW and for those I'm grateful but I will give my full weight of support to whomever is appointed. Except Adkins, Barton or any other cheap yes man
