There seems to be an assumption that (assuming we get relegated) we will revert back to having a midfield no.10 next season.

Personally, I'm not so sure. I can see our defence struggling to keep clean sheets next season and Wilder has lost his gung-ho attitude. We'd no longer be an underdog and so teams will undoubtedly see beating us as a prize. As we've seen since lockdown, managers now know how to counter our system.

I kind of suspect that we'll keep trying to win games 1-0 with a flattish midfield 3. I hope I'm wrong but I've seen no indication to suggest we'd suddenly become the brave, risk-taking attacking team again.

thats why we need at least 2 midfielders in no reason at all to play a flat 3 in midfield in the championship or play with a back 5

I dont get your reasoning that we wouldnt be able to keep clean sheets in the Championship
We are hardly getting beat by three or four goals every week in the stongest League in the world
Im sure our midfield / attack would be able to retain the ball a lot better in the Championship meaning we would have more posession which in turn means there wouldnt be as much pressure on our defence as at the moment the ball just keeps coming back and not sticking in our opponents half
Dont get me wrong the mid field will probably need a complete overhaul in terms of players and the way we play

I think if we retain our defence and get RND and Bogle properly involved we will be good defensively but I agree in the most part. What frustrates me the most is how we invite pressure against anyone. IMO we either need to revert back to what got us oozing with class in the football league or try something new altogether. A back four of say Bogle Egan JOC RND with more quality and pace in front of them is extremely promising for the future.

No reason to play a flat 3 in the prem either but we do, it doesn’t work and we keep playing it, he will do the same in the championship as he says there’s nothing wrong with the system.
in fairness it doesn’t matter how we set up in midfield as the ball is hoofed over their heads anyway, play the best three in the world there, they wouldn’t change the outcome of games as they don’t touch the ball...
if he plays a flat three at Bristol today and hoofs it that will tell us his intentions if we go down. Tiny strikers and big defenders and playing hoof is never going to work...

We do it because we don’t have a number 10 in the squad. And to be fair to wilder it did work last year (undeniably).

the main argument other than he’s a good manager for keeping wilder is that we have to see if he can learn from his mistakes and this experience. I see no reason why he wouldn’t look to sign a number 10 for next season and revert to the tactics that worked in that league. He would be mad not to.

A defence of Ramsdale, RND, Baldock, Basham, Egan and O’Connoll is probably the best in the Championship. Defence isn’t the issue, midfield and creating chances & beating players with the ball at our feet is.

We're literally missing one of those players and haven't kept a clean sheet all season.

This losing by one goal thing is a complete misnomer. We lose by one goal because teams know we can't score and basically just go ahead and hold a lead. We don't attack enough to leave gaping holes for them to easily exploit on the counter. So we lose by one goal because the opposition is happy to win by one goal.

I hope your right and I am wrong but I don’t think so. When a manager in every interview says there is nothing wrong with the system and it’s down to the players then what makes you think he’s gonna change anything.
I agree it worked last year, but the hoof it to the strikers was nowhere to be seen in the system last season barring the last few games of the season where it was introduced into our winning system, strange how everything changed since then and our results altered overnight, worse thing is we can all see it but the guy that needs to see it cannot....
All i am saying is I wish Chris would say to himself this shit doesn’t work and I am gonna revert it back to what does, then maybe I will see what your seeing....

Yes just like Liverpool did v Palace think we had better score seven because Palace might score six
Brighton scored three against Wolves but could only manage one agaisnt us with ten men

If a Premier League attack can only score one against us with ten men what makes you think we wont keep clean sheets in the league below when we will have more posession and the opponents offensive players are not as good as the ones we are currently playing against ?
