And who's responsible for making it even worse with 4 unbelievably poor signings?

I'll give you a clue, his full name begins with Nigel, and ends in Adkins.

I see his signings have now progressed to "unbelievably poor".

Every time you mention them they seem to get worse in your descriptions.

I very much doubt Coady would have dropped to League 1 with even a sniff of Championship interest.
Like you and Pete I've posted several times on this. It's a waste of time. Let's just pretend he was desperate to come to us, wasn't in any way hanging on for a club in a higher league, and we fucked it up big time. After all, there isn't much to criticise the board for so we need to find more things.

What do you think of them? Do you clap them off the pitch?

I can't be quite as generic as you as I don't have an agenda.
I clap them off when they've played well, a little less when not.
I find it difficult to clap some of them off and not others as they tend to leave the pitch together.

Also, I can't sum up all his signings in one, I've made separate comments on them previously and made the point that he's still suffering from Clough's squad.

Not the way I saw it. Moyes was happy to tread water for 11 years at Everton, on 30k+ crowds while Liverpool were allowed to dominate. I couldn't believe the standing ovation he got for his last game in charge at Everton. He'd taken them as far as he was capable of doing and turned Everton into a 'making up the numbers' club in the PL. Found out at Old Trafford and now Spain.

Clough? Good article here and, like most of his managerial career, it's all based on the reflected glory of his father.

'Nigel is 49 now. He was sacked by Sheffield United last summer even though he had guided them to the League One play-offs and led them to an FA Cup semi-final and a Capital One Cup semi-final in successive seasons. Sooner rather than later, a club will get lucky and hire him.' Utter bollocks. He's been a manager for 17 years now and won two promotions.

It's not as if Derby fans didn't warn us of Clough's negativity. Now he looks set to inflict his own brand of tedium at the City Ground.

Look at Evertons budget compared to Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, City (in recent times), Tottenham. They were in and among all of those teams with a much smaller budget. Fergie wouldnt have personally recommended him if he was s**t... maybe out of his depth at Man U though. Especially with the shell of a squad that was left to him.

Just is case anyone missed it lets not forget your solution the other night was to appoint Morgan and flood the side with Academy players.

I was less tongue in cheek than alco

Duly noted. There's still an argument against Clough. The entertainment factor was way off the mark last season but I think he gets very one sided criticism in general on here.

He did a lot of things right as well. I would have given him another season but I was happy with the appointment of his successor and still support him also. I think the problems go way beyond the dugout.

Lots of criticism from some but when there was a poll on here asking whether he should remain in charge, something like 66% voted 'Yes'.

100% agree on your Clough comments, as for his successor, I wasn't disappointed with his appointment, however whilst we have the problems "beyond the dugout" as you say, any manager's job here is made a lot more difficult.

Adkins does really need to step things up this January though for his own sake if not ours. That's if he's still hungry for the job still, part of me questions that desire.

The big question though is whether the board will allow him the freedom to do his job on January or whether they're still bitter from Cloughs tenure.

I don't know why he wouldn't be hungry. He made nowt as a player and has only had two jobs that will have paid reasonable money. I bet Clough's earned more than him. If he fails at the Lane he'll be back at a club like Scunny. If he succeeds he's back in the 'big time'.

You'd expect him to be hungry for success but he must surely be questioning his own ability with the way things are going at United

I was out last Friday night and got into conversation with a popular 70s era player (not TC!), still closely involved with the club. He was scathing about Clough and his regime, likening him to "mafia." His take on the Collins episode matches closely with a previous post on here, i.e. When Harry let it be known he was looking to move, Cloughie made him train alone. Doyle (Captain) and Collins (Vice Captain) went to see Cloughie after a pre-season session to make the case for Harry. Neither started the first game against Bristol City.

I was one of the 66% who believed Cloughie had done enough in 18 months to start this season. He clearly didn't rate Collins as a player and, based on other comments, probably took exception to his attitude towards other players during games. All of which was his right as manager.

However, there is a credible picture of Cloughie being stubborn to the point of irrationality and his decision making regarding Collins and his central defensive problem seemed impaired - and ultimately cost him his job.

This sounds close to the mark... Whether you think Adkins is the answer or not only the relentlessly stubborn Clough fan boys could belive Clough was anything other than a raging egoist. Good riddance.

Last season nearly every home game was absolutely mind numbingly boring. The low points being playing for draws at home packing midfield and 1 forward. Each game was so predictable.

This season on the whole it's been exactly the same, I totally fail to see what difference Nigel has made except a different surname.

His surname is different though... Oh sorry you said surname.

We're in such a strange place at the moment. The team has undoubted quality in attacking areas but is completely lacking in quality everywhere else. Sounds made about reinvestment of transfer fees but no sign of them being forthcoming to this point. I really don't expect anything more for the remainder of the season than we're currently achieving....mid table anonymity.

Whilst I don't blame Adkins for that I do worry for him because no one else at the club will ever assume any accountability, the buck always seems to stop with the manager. The truth is I really have no clue what the answer is. With the current set up in place I don't think there is an answer.

On one hand I expect us to finish mid table, on the other hand I think that the league is so poor that anything lower than a playoff position would be an unmitigated failure for the manager. The whole thing leaves me numb.

No shortage of"raging egotists" in the realms of top management though: Ferguson? Mourinho? Clough B? In Blades terms, dare I say it - Warnock! Not in itself an impediment to success.

I was one of those. I can't say I voted yes with much enthusiasm to be completely honest, and much of the reason why I didn't vote no outright was that I didn't think we could get anyone better. I still think we have got someone better, and that given a chance that'll be shown long-term.

I said at the time. That I massively on the fence because he had gave us some great moments & I wanted him to stay for continuity but providing he agree to play more attacking football as we proved we could v Swindon 5-5. But apparently he wouldnt budge in his meeting gave owners them no option. Why not like pellegrini has at city when in champions league he tried 4231 from 442. Just try more attacking for 10 games no harm in trying it couldve worked

But now after hearing the same stories from currie & members of staff that were they're, it was best he left as he was losing the plot towards the end if his reign. Who can forget Collins where he disappeared & fans asked during a cb injury crisis he was "coming back from injury". Or his weird final radio Sheffield interview
--------------------
Ps- I think ours problems stem from transfer window. We all known since March/April we needed 2 preferably 3 centre back to really challenge & we got 1 in on loan that was only because 0-4 v gills forced there hand. Collins is good but as back up & injury cover not 1st choice 55 games a season

Collins is synonymous with our consistent failures over the last 5 years he has never and will never be good enough.

Clough did right to fuck him off - sadly Adkins will end up out of the door like his predecessor for the incompetence in failing to get shut of dross like him and Mceverley and replacing them with better options.

How does Morgan get away Scot free as well surely to god he made Adkins aware of the shambles that was last season.

How do you know Morgan didn't?

The first three you mention had one thing that NC never had - a solid record of success. You can get away with being an arrogant arsehole if the results are there. Obviously, with NC, they weren't and never have been.

As for the accusations that the board reneged on investment promises to NA, I would imagine that NA has enough experience to ask for - and receive - cast iron assurances as a condition of accepting the job. It doesn't wash.

I, like a lot on here, can feel the enthusiasm draining away. Surely in 12 months we won't be discussing 'it will take time and money to dismantle Adkins' squad.'

The subject of Adkins was raised on 'Wednesday Heaven' (co-hosted by Pitsmoor Owl) last night. A constant theme was 'surely it's too early to even think about changing managers again' and 'who would drop down to our level?' Well two teams who have impressed me at the Lane this season are Bury (David Flitcroft) and Millwall (Neil Harris). Both games were remarkably similar - they both 'tested' the ref. with early & outrageous fouls on J C-R, got away with it and went on to 'boss' and win the games. Cynical, athletic, ruthless that's what you need to get out of this division. Flitcroft would crawl on his hands and knees to take the job here. Approaching half way and NA is still struggling to discover the magic formula - 4-4-2, midgets in midfield etc. This is no time for experimentation, I afraid. One other thing raised on WH last night was 'wait until we get the injured players back'. Well, Brayford apart (who I personally doubt will be the same player after his lengthy injury) are we the only team who get injuries? Injuries are not to be confused with buying crocks in the first place...

Flitcroft and Harris. When we wanted to get rid of Weir plenty were shouting about how good Davies and Johnson were.

Grass is always greener.
