I've yet to see any real glowing praise for our Nige tonight, so thought he deserved a thread of his own. I feel people are quick to blame the manager for bad performances, but slow to praise him for good performances.

Nigel got it spot on tonight, and has reassured me that he is the man for this job. Nigel is the best tactician we have had since.... ? Well, many a year I would say.

I hope everyone gives him 100% support in the next few years (hopefully) regardless of what division we are in next season, he is the man who can build this club from the ground up. Well done to the players too, but Clough is a superb manager who deserves equal (if not, more) credit than the players.

Sing up Shoreham, Nige is here to stay!!

get us to 20th for now take it from there... have to say the deployment of Miller with the one defender on the post tactic seemed to be a genuine plan. i was following the commentary online, nearly all us never stopped for 120 minutes. done us proud UTB

blader, good sentiments mate. I know it's easy in moments of near hysteria like last night to go overboard, but I've felt we're in good hands with Nigel for some time. I know results have almost brought us to our knees, but he's having to undo years of poor decision making, and I suspect he'll be as frustrated as the fans are. So we need to cut him some slack and see how things unfold, at least those are my feelings. I know another poor result will see the Clough bashers rear their heads and blow steam up each other's arses, but I really do think we've got the best guy for the job. UTB

He's proved that he can tactically outwit other teams but his players have to prove they can carry out what he's asking of them on a regular basis and in the league!

He's proved it against predictable premiership sides...

He needs to prove it against the likes of Crewe, notts county, Shrewsbury and brentford too

Oh dear, another good performance against a premier league side and all the league results are suddenly forgotten. Agree Clough doesn't deserve the stick a few give him, but supporters have every right to come on here and criticise the poor fare that has been served up including some games under Nigels stewardship.

Can't recall ever saying anything about forgetting the league position we're in, or the results that have got us there. Did you actually read what I wrote? By all means criticise, what I take issue with is that there are those who confuse criticism with an opportunity to blame Clough for everything that's wrong with united. We're talking about years of poor decision making, not just what happened under Weir, which in itself is bad enough.

I share the sense of huge disappointment, and at the moment I'd take league points over cup success any day of the week, but we're in the cup and I want my team to win, as I'm sure you do.

A few exceptional results doesn't disprove that fact, but I'll rest blame where it's deserved, and for anyone to come into the mess that is SUFC and be expected to quickly undo all the shoddy bad work that seems to have become accepted and never questioned is crazy. Not a critic of Clough, just don't get carried away with a win against a poor Fulham side. Yes Nigel has inherited a mess but at the moment we have progressed to second bottom under his management so if we lose Saturday he may get a bit of stick, that's football. Agree with a lot of what you've written though.

Bit of an oxymoron to say 'we have progressed to second bottom under his management', but know what you're saying fella. And I'm sure Clough knows that if we lose on Saturday he'll get a bollocking from certain sections of the crowd, that's just the way football is. How NC and his staff appear to get things so tactically right against Premiership teams, yet united seem to have no answer to the teams they play against on a week in, week out basis defies explanation. Are the players thick? Do they only turn up when they feel like it? Whatever the answer, I'm sticking by Nigel for the moment as he won't stand by those who don't do as they're told to play.

It's Clough's job to get his tactical message across to the players, and I don't think for one second that he's failing to do that. I blame the players, forget formations, they help of course, last night was a clear example of how a good, sound, tactical plan can give you an advantage. Trouble is, if you don't have heart, and a willingness to engage with the opposition, then you're buggered, it really is that simple. I saw this last night with young Scougall. What is he? Three foot in his bare feet? He must weigh all of 2 boxes of Kelloggs cornflakes, yet what I saw last night was a little terrier, tenacious, and as the game went on he began to play some really good football, which is clearly what Nigel saw in him before he bought the lad. More of this please, and anyone else who thinks it's ok to swan along and be a passenger come matchday, get rid Mr Clough, get rid!
