What's funny is, he's been in the job five minutes. Nobody wants to say anything negative, you have to give a manager a chance right. Can't be the fickle fans. But we all secretly know he's gonna get the sack or leave within the next 6-12 months. Even if we won't say it. Go on...tell me i'm wrong. Have a go at me for not giving him a chance if you like. But you do know i'm right. We're like the Titanic replacing the captain every 5 minutes but still heading straight for the iceberg.

I know it's not a poll, but for a moment pretend it is.
Will he still be here this time next year? Yes or No?

Yep. That's the attitude. Look forward and then rejoice at the fact you were right. It will give you much joy to see Nigel fail - to the extent that you would rather that happen so you could be right.

Personally I want him to become our longest serving manager ever because if he does become that then our team will be worth watching.

Why would it bring me much joy? Strange thing to say.

I know i'm going to die, it won't bring me much joy in being right. Bizarre logic.

Clough the right man to take us up this league and next year out of it that I'm pretty sure of.

You'll not see him panicking bringing deadbeat loanees he's looking at this squad and I'm sure with what he's inherited he'd steer us to respectability this season.
To even imply him leaving /getting sacked is beyond belief .

Yes he will and i believe we will still be in League 1 but this time next year be in the top 6. There is a team that play not to far from us can't remember there name but back in 2011 that team finished 15th in league 1 (a position i believe we will finish similar to) then the following season got promoted. ;)

Yes i think he will definately still be here in 12 months time.
It is going to take time to sort the squad out, offloading players, contracts, loans, permanent signings etc and he will be looking to stabilise and finish around mid table and then a possible promotion push next season, but this in reality could be the season after.
It is a big job and i have every confidence in Mr Clough to take us forward.

I think that even if we go down we need to stick with him. Why? 3 reasons;
1. Swapping managers every time we have some duff results has contributed hugely to where we are now, the club ends up with loads of players bought in semi desperation by managers who don't stick around, in most cases it takes the players about 5 minutes to find out if the new guy fancies them or not and if he doesn't they are then sat around making up the numbers, restricting the financial ability to get anyone fresh in and if they are so minded making the atmosphere poisonous and drawing a wage.
2. If the players know the board will get rid of the manager it makes them more likely to undermine him if they aren't flavour of the month and in the starting 11
3. Given where we are now I seriously doubt we could attract anyone better, anyone half decent wouldn't come because they would know they were on a hiding to nothing - massive problems to sort out, a track record of sacking the manager at the first sign of trouble. We would be left trying to pick the bones out of chancers, journeymen and has-beens.
I'm pretty amazed Clough decided to take us on to be honest.

You could say that, had we kept Warnock, we wouldn't have been in this mess
Some of the others should never have been appointed in the first place.

Classic situation of the tail wagging the dog. I would expect a manager to manage, and to be strong enough to deal with said players. Better to put them out to pasture than to play them if, their intentions are to undermine the manager and the team. Defaulters shouldn't be difficult to spot..

If Clough N has half the balls of Clough B he will sort the problem and get us to play football that is easy on the eye. I for one am right behind him in this objective.

Some great points. The rest of the fans need to absorb this so we can be patient in the coming months/years. I said before Weir took the reigns given the huge turnover of players, budget restrictions etc. that if we finished mid table then that'd be a success, unfortunately it was soon apparent that he was badly out of his depth.

So with Nigel Clough avoiding relegation is the immediate aim. If we can do that then it's looking probable that we will have a high turnover of players again which makes the following season about consolidating a top half league position. Depressing to think we'll have another 3 years at least in this division, but we took around 5 years to get into this mess and the fix isn't going to be much quicker. During this time hopefully NC can also implement a style of football that will make Pinchy salivate. Moving forward I want us to start building a squad around:

GK: LONG
DF: MAGUIRE
MF: McGINN, BAXTER, CUVELIER, Brandy
CF: MILLER, DIEGO, Taylor

CULL : McMahon, Collins, Hill, Williams, Westlake, Doyle, Murphy, Flynn, McFadzean, King, Ironside, Porter.

Give time to Brandy (temperament/final ball) and Taylor (positioning/finishing) to see if they can improve their game.

I think Clough has to stay, he's proved elsewhere that he brings stability to clubs and now this is the manager that both the prince and McCabe wanted (post weir).

So if Clough is successful then he'll want to stay/ be given an incentive to stay.
If he keeps us up, then he'll stay
If we get relegated, then I don't see a benefit to changing a manager again. We've proven that every time we sack a manager we go backwards and the new manager is left with the dregs from the last regime.

The club will only go forward with stability and that means allowing the manager time to get his own squad/ team

Spoke to my Derby work mate last night about Cloughie.......he asked me if we were perplexed yet by the negative team selections, players out of position and all the attacking options sat on the bench......

Oh dear !!!

Reading/ listening to a lot of his interviews he certainly seems to favour a strong defensive team. If he brings that then it's progress. We've not exactly kept many clean sheets this season.

It's funny to think back to this time last season when people were complaining about how the side were only playing for 1-0 wins... I think we were on s decent unbeaten run as well

What we would give for this right now !

I'm ok with shutting up shop in a situation like this, the problem being the defence is currently NGE.

Yes, I really hope so.

He's inherited a very poor squad that I HOPE he can keep up.

If not, he's got to be given another season to get us either up, back into this League.

Ideally he'll keep us up and be able to have a real go at promotion next season.

If we hadn't gone sacking Managers for fun then we wouldn't be here. If Clough stays in the job he will have done well. Well being keeping us up this season but progression the next.

I don't believe for one minute any one of us wants to see him out the door because it means we have got worse and that means we will be in League 2. In spite of differing views we do all support the same team and want the same thing. It really is that simple.

Biggest factor in our demise has been woeful decisions at board level this past few years. Decisions that make those of Clough, Adams, Weir and Wilson pale into insignificance.

We were top of the league and nailed on for promotion towards the end of 2012. Amazing how things change.

What gets me is that he talks about getting the ball in the box. YOu need to get more than your 2 strikers in the box if your going to get it in as quickly as possible.

So when he plays 2 left backs, a 1 legged donkey and Flynny in midfield, I am wondering who he is expecting to break a neck to get in the box and which one of those would take the chances

I would more or less agree with that but if you're going to get rid of Porter you would need to get someone in who can win a header and hold the ball up. Those three forwards look a little lightweight to me.

Personally I would start introducing one or two academy players. Can't do any worse. We really do need to sort out the full back positions though, our options there make me cringe. Slow, clumsy players.

Of course he will.

I have been for an eye test to my ophthalmologist this morning - known him for years and he does eyes for Yorks CC and has contacts at Derby County FC.

Says Cloughie should never have been sacked from the Rams as he was getting a good team together - McLaren is benefiting from Cloughie's work

Cloughie prefers British players and likes to bring along young players and given time, will produce great teams.

Let's hope we do give him time.

I don't think we'll go down this year but it will be close.

Next year a tilt at the play-offs, and the following season (if not promoted previously) runaway champions.

2 years in the Championship and then ready to go for the Premiership.

Mebbes ... ;)

I think Clough will do. He is an average manager and he is the best we might expect on our present position. I liked Wilson, another average manager and think it was a mistake to let him go precisely because we are not in a position to get anyone with better credentials or you take a punt on a rookie. Like we did and look what happened. I like the fact that he seems quite candid and he does not seek publicity for its own sake . I worry we will lose support because he is not v charismatic and frankly there is not much in the short term to look forward to other than survival. But for those of us prepared to be in it for the long haul, maybe in a few years Cloughy will come good. Quietly optimistic shhhhh

Disagree ,to listen to him is very interesting I think ,he is humorous ,candid ,sincere ,intelligent and articulate. just listen to that boring monosolabic twat from s6 and Disappointing weir and compare. Maybe its a David thing.
