I know you know

But all things considered we apparently, I didn’t go but from reports , started so slowly and lethargically and invited this to happen .

This is the business end of the season - CW says we’re in the best shape - yet ?

But what about Oxford fightiong for their lives too? They were 2pts above the drop before today.

2nd in the Division- this has to be the mental post of the season, what did you think when we smashed Coventry to pieces?. sorry to offend but it's plain 'thicko'.
I think calling someone thick because they don’t share your opinion is rather shallow… sorry but I’m not accepting that today. The thing is we’ve played like that many times but our quality has found a way. This makes me very sceptical of wilder.

I know - but even so

Anyway

Onwards and ?

Fortunately the owners know we can’t win every game. Some day fans will realise that as well.

Agree we can’t win every game but the disappointment today was the first 20 minutes.

Oxford came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. They played loads of high balls into our box, hoping for a ball to bounce to their player and it happened when they scored.

We started like we expected to easily win and to be fair Oxford probably deserved to be leading 1-0 at half time.

2nd half as expected, we showed urgency and raised the tempo but the damage had been done.
Oxford let us have plenty of the ball and parked he bus 2nd half.

It’s always tough to break through a packed defense.
We had loads of attacks and corners but never created any clear chances. It was one of them games.

However no need to panic.
The test is how we react to this increase in pressure. We’ve shown time and time again then when it comes to bottle we’re the best in the league at handling pressure.

Let’s see how we play Tuesday against Millwall.

Fully agree it was disappointing. This is a tough, unpredictable league. The great thing about the Championship is that teams genuinely stand a chance in every game. I’d be a completely unrealistic fan if I didn’t expect there to be some games in which we underperformed and didn’t get a result over the course of a season.

Agree…it’s an interesting one.

Wilder is consistently getting the results but we’re rarely convincing. It reminds me of how we played under Heckingbottam. When we go in front we tend to settle for the win and coast towards the finish line. Also I’m not sure about our style of play, it’s mixed, we don’t have a particular style which might be a good thing so there are some valid concerns with Wilder.

However there are positives, the culture he’s printing on the club is fantastic, the players have great team spirit and mentality to handle pressure and do the job.

Another massive positive is that’s it was only last season he witnessed the standard of the Premier league, so he will know exactly what’s required to pick up points there. No doubt he’ll already have an idea about our tactics, style of play and what players were needed to do much better than last season.

You’d hope that the owners are judging Wilder over the piece and not after one performance. If they do, they’ll be forced to conclude he’s done a good job and has got an awful lot right this season.

That said…I hope they’re also looking at the performances this season and thinking about whether a different manager might be needed to take us to the next level. Not now, but over the medium term.

Disappointing to lose today but it happens.

We are in a great position, with everything more than in our own hands.

We've won 6 straight away games leading up to today, we were due a loss on the road.
That's everything what's wrong with this club,
How many exactly is it since Burnley lost ?

We lost today because of a piss poor attitude that developed at about 2.20 this afternoon when the Leeds result came in.

A bad attitude that gave us a get out of jail free card, a guarantee that second place was still safe regardless, instead of keeping ourselves in front of Burnley we have the attitude that second is ok for shitty old us.

Criminal considering we still have to go to Burnley

Does our record this season not give Wilder any credit in the bank…? I don’t think you’re thick but I do feel like your acting as thing nothing else has happened this season and your entire judgement of us is on this one game. Do you accept that we can’t play to our best every game? That we’ll have matches where we don’t look great? And, god forbid, lose? I think that’s my main issue here. There’s zero perspective.

Look, I’m not expecting us to play like Barca every game, but I just don’t see the identity in this team. Firstly we look terrified of balls into the box. There’s no frequent patterns of play. There’s no consistent performances. We are second because we have better players than most sides that win games on their own. Even Oxford, despite how shit they are, play a certain way. Theyve had 39 games now it’s not a new team anymore, I expect to see some progress on the pitch. We will get pummelled in the premier league (if we go up). I really struggle to get behind wilder.

They’re in the same division as us aren’t they? Embarrassing post smacking of someone who has spent too long watching the likes of Man City piss the league and therefore thinks we should be smashing anyone in and around the relegation zone any given day. Leagues like the Championship just don’t work that way.
Well Burnley can manage it, Ipswich did last year, Burnley before that, Fuham.

Nah traditional SU fuck up, called looking a gift horse in the mouth. And we haven't been to Plymouth yet ! Standby for another defeat next Saturday.

Didn't show up like Oxford did they wanted those 3 points We were at snail's pace. An inability to win high balls into our box they stuck to it they deserved it ,Wilder waited too long to change it the slow pace had already been set early on ,it just continued until the 80th minute when we won a few headers in their box .Too little too late

But why ?

I have reservations about Wilder managing in the Premiership. Much the same with Warnock.
Brilliant at Championship level.
Looking at the Premiership there aren't many English managers

Like most of us I’m thoroughly pissed off with the result and in particular our first half performance. I think the high emotion about it is compounded by two points:

1. How well we played and convincing we looked against Coventry.
2. The fact that we had the opportunity to put some clear daylight between us and Leeds after they dropped points earlier in the day.
We never, ever seem to be able to capitalise on opportunities when presented to us. We seem to lack that killer instinct.
It’s difficult to blame Wilder tactically as it was exactly the same side that provided one of the best performances of the season only a week ago. However there may have been a question to be asked; would Oxford present a different set of problems to us than Coventry did? and if so should we change the team accordingly?

We looked much better in the second half. We lifted the tempo and got on the front foot straightaway. It’s only my opinion but we seem to miss O’hare’s industry and creativity around the pitch. Theirs an argument to be had whether he should have come on from the start of the second half. I really don’t think he wasn’t given the minutes to make a positive impact on the game today.

I’m not convinced by Moore but with the crosses coming in from either side it made sense to try and utilise his strengths, not that they materialised. Cannon is just an enigma. There’s got to be a player in there but I’m struggling to see evidence of it to date against purchase value.

Despite all of that there was still enough hardware on the pitch to put Oxford to the sword. To not even achieve the dignity of a point meaning Leeds gain on us is difficult to take.

Let’s hope that is our last, and only blip during the run in.

Not a single one of their players gets into our squad btw. Another proper manager would have got us playing a brand of football capable of breaking teams that park the bus down.

Dunno, a couple of their lads gave us the runaround.

The owners are probably adults and don't react emotionally to set backs in life and that's why they are successful
Literally this.

They’ve literally just given him a new deal. I’m sure there was no mention of - by the way if you lose 1 game in 6 we’ll probably have to sack you.

We were rubbish yesterday, we never got going, the pitch was terrible, the wind was awful, the players we’re shite, it’s just one of those days.

Also, if I could afford a football club I wouldn't buy one. Seems like a pretty easy way to burn cash.

Buy a big yacht, some houses and some fast cars. Give some money to charity

Although I might do a Dozy and pretend to buy some. That looked like fun

Anybody with a scintilla of perspective would conclude that we are guaranteed to overachieve this season and that the only thing that could stop us getting automatic promotion is two teams getting a ridiculous points total. If the owners aren't of that opinion then a difficult future awaits us as perspective is always key.

Those that have been around the block will also have had Oxford away marked down as one of our toughest remaining games. They are decent at home and were always going to be bang up for it. You'd much rather be playing somebody with nothing to play for, preferably at home. Our run in has always looked very difficult to me. Play off chasing Millwall next.

Wouldn’t you be asking - what went wrong today Chris and why?

Off the back of one of our best performances of the season - 8 days rest - players back and healthy squad - brought in 7 players in Jan including a £10m stellar signing - playing against a side who have won 1-11 , one of our promotion rivals only drawing and a chance to reclaim top spot and go 4 points clear of third with only 6 to go ?

I know I would

What would Chris say ?
I certainly wouldn’t expect the owners to get carried away, just as I wouldn’t expect Wilder to.

Every season there is generally a game or two which are complete outliers. This appears to be one of those.

Oxford absolutely did a job on us first half, right from not watering the pitch, to launching in throws and it was enough to win the game as they were able to manage the lead very well. They rode their luck as well, but ultimately we didn’t do enough. The irony is that they put in a very Wilderesque performance

There needs to be a quick reaction and I’d expect that Millwall will provide that reaction on Tuesday

We missed a big chance to put distance over Leeds but we are lucky to have had the buffer over them to start.

Oxford were playing in their 'Champions League Final' yesterday.

Beat the team that's top of the league, bag 3 points and after a run of bad results put a bit of daylight between them and the bottom.

They literally threw the kitchen sink at us including the ball and themselves. The number of blocks they made was off the scale.

Let's face it, weve done that very same thing to teams higher up the pyramid multiple times.

Good sides and good players sometimes just dont click into gear on the day for whatever reason.

Let's learn from it and move on.

We have an incredible manager who eats, sleeps and breathes the club just like the rest of us. He will get it right.

KTF

Like everyone else I was disappointed with the performance and result yesterday…. But if 7 away games ago you were asked will you settle for 5 wins and 2 draws would you accept? You’d have said yes that’s just 4 points dropped in 21 AWAY from home… well we lost 1 and dropped 3 points. We accept it and move on…

Sacking managers on the P&L end of year accounts was always the eye watering thing we used to see when McCabe ran the show.

At least if you sign a player for £5m who’s average (Traore) you might get most of your money back.
