Nigel Adkins on youth ("pathway", etc.)

Agreed. I included the mention of his contribution just to put the other side not to argue that it balances.

A presumably very big wage for half a player in a crucial area. (Unless we signed Coutts on a low wage because of his injury record.)

I think it's a very big issue.

Especially when it seems like Adkins would like Hammond here next season.
Hammond and Coutts - 2 players that if you could combine their attributes, would form a slightly above average 3rd division midfielder on premiership wages. :(

For me, it depends on how much you are looking to the manager to explain himself. I still have faith in him, so I see these interviews as him being forced to fill 5 minutes of air time.

If I'd lost all faith, I'd be looking to the manager for explanations. That's where more and more people are finding themselves.

In the end, it's all fluff. If we continue in the same form, nothing Adkins can say will make people accept it. If we were winning and kept doing so, nobody would give a rats ass what he said.

But that last paragraph makes the Warnock interview analogy meaningless. People moaned about him even when we were winning.

Hard to say why I like the interviews so much but maybe it's because to me they give an indication of what kind of manager he is for the players and crucially the club.

I also think he says plenty.

I think his management/motivational style will get the best out of the players - especially the younger ones.

I like the snippets of tactical stuff as well when they occasionally appear.

The problem is that Coutts' contribution, attacking wise, just isn't that great. He does offer something, but not nearly enough to compensate for the complete lack of the other side of his game.

I agree with that. I have no problems believing the story about him looking fantastic in training, where the tempo is slower, tackles not as hard, etc. He's got great technique, a touch of arrogance, very good composure and shields the ball well. I can see players not being able to get the ball off him in training, and few being bothered about him not being bothered to chase after Done, telling Reed or Flynn to do that stuff instead.

Good point - though I think that a decade of "new ethos" combined with utter shite will have corrected a few views. I suppose you have to overlay a "grass is greener on the other side" angle.

Anyway, there's a point in there somewhere. :)

He can't actually say the truth;

"These youngsters aren't good enough to get us promoted"

"If you knew what we were paying the likes of Paul Coutts, you'd understand why I have to trim the squad."

"So I need the youngsters to pad it"

UTB
No issue using the youngsters even if at times they fall short.

Issue for me is picking Sammon and Coutts ahead of then having done little in the past month to justify.

I'm only disappointed that he doesn't say 'the project'. A classic premiership manager bullshit bingo phrase.

Half the problem is some of the stupid questions some of his interviewers ask.
It,s the way they ask the same stupid questions every time.
Their a managers nightmare

We aren't winning though and his interviews hardly ever acknowledge the obvious problems. Certain players can be criticised, others defended regardless. Clough was hammered for it.

Does anyone get annoyed anymore though, or just think "FFS, here we go again" ?
I think he does know the short comings Sean,if he can't !!,then what's he doing as a manager.,putting it right from within or outside
is the hard bit,I do think he will get it right sooner than later.

Not really said much in that video that he hasn't said before.

Bringing our youth through is no bad thing and it worked well for Southampton.

I think these quotes illustrates one of the bigger problems we face:

We have a presumably very expensive central midfielder who can't defend (perplexing) but can create, and is contracted for the whole of next season.

Not an easy situation.

Can we not flog him to the MLS? He strikes me as a player who would love to toss it off in a nice climate.

Pathway to youngsters eh? Well, we had Coutts and Hammond on the pitch tonight for fucking ages, he doesn't bring Reed on at all, a lad who has done pretty well recently can't even get on. He brings Woolford and fucking Sammon on, whos' first touch of the ball was at the end of the match. I honestly am baffled by it all. I must admit, Hammond was twice the player of Coutts tonight and he wasn't even good. I've stuck by Adkins and stuck up for him all season, WHERE THE FUCK DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Nigel Adkin's "scouting network" should be the first ones to get the bullet. Simply because Adkins has seen for himself this season, a multitude of young talented league 1 players who have consistently ripped the piss out of his hapless fucking team.
If he's not made a move for at least 4 of these players by the end of June he should be sacked.

The scouting network who really failed was the Clough Brothers. Were either on an incentive bonus to sign players. Significantly they have not 'repeated their mistakes' by double dipping, taking their dross with them.
Yes this season has not lived up to expectations. I would hope that N.A. has already started the rebuild. Just one more thing. Surely, now is the time to play the younger players who are expected to form part of the team next
season.

Yes agree about the dross he was left with. But I just hope he has a good look around league one first, when he's drawing up his list of potential acquisitions.
