Nick Montgomery - not good enough

Alas, as the manager thinks they both good are good enough, he must know better! Why is it when we lose (whether it be against the pigs or not) players suddenly become not good enough. Not good enough for what is the question?

As for Monty, if he wasn't good enough in the humble opinion of all the thousands on here who claim so (Pinchy and his army of 20 or so), surely some fucker would have rumbled him by now and stopped paying him a wage!

you're forgetting that pinchy knows better

And would you have posted your opinion if we'd won/drawn? No, of course you wouldn't, which in my opinion makes you a bitter mardy arse.

I am not a Monty basher and never have been and think he is a much better player than some posters hgere would have us believe.

However, in fairness to those who do continually post less than complimentary comments about him, they have been doing so since last weekend, and I believe we won that match.

just my opinion like.

yes im upset we lost to our biggest rivals in a potentially promotion-changing game. for that i obviously should apologise.

iv put up a thread which is the right length and carefully thought out. today was the FINAL STRAW for Montgomery i thought. iv thought he was rubbish for years, iv only been on this forum for a few months. the fact i have only expressed this opinion today does not make it any less valid.

in a game, where we needed him to step up, seize his chance, make a case for the first team he flopped. he was wasteful, talentless and like a headless chicken with football boots on.

all you have contributed things like: "lash out like spoilt children. Fuckin shame on you!" which you wrote when you were lashing out at us and "which in my opinion makes you a bitter mardy arse"

and you call ME the bitter mardy one.

He's not good enough, i dont know why you are trying to defend him. unless u think he is good enough, in which case nail your colours to the mast and say so, rather than bashing his (many) detractors.

And you think they would have posted that today if we'd won?

I fail completely to understand people criticising someone when the critic probably isn't any good at what he's criticising anyway...

find me almost any player you dont think is good enough for a team, i will find you someone paying him a wage.

just because they keep picking him, doesnt mean he can cut it. it means we dont have anyone else.

next time u criticise the Prime Minister then, il get you a day's work in Number 10. show us how its done.

See some of my other posts mate ...... Whether I, you or any other bugger thinks he's good enough or not is totally and utterly irrelevant. If the manager thinks he is, thats all that matters and you posting your opinions on here ain't gonna change a thing, only possibly give you the satisfaction of thinking you are right because we lost.
Focussing energies on supposting the players who the manager puts out there is a far more positive and supportive mode to be in - in my opinion of course!
As for Monty - today he was shite, this season has been a stop/start for him and he hasn't been at his best and I've never hid my admiration for the qualities he brings to the team when he's at his best. There are some players I've not thought too hot over the years, but slagging them off, neither makes them better or gets rid of them too.

The only colours I'll nail to your imaginary mast are - roll on Wednesday night and lets get the promotion push back on track, today is now history, look forwards, not backwards - UTB!

Anyone think that one person on here as some form of Tourettes?

Now you're just being clever.....sigh...

it is a forum tho, so our opinions are relevant here.

but yes, i know what u mean.

the imaginary mast is not imaginary though, its on the Promotion Ship which is sailing towards the Championship with a big red n white flag at the top.

UTB!

How sad that as soon as we lose, so called supporters turn on an individual in the team. Fuck me, what about turning your energies to next Wednesday and Scunthorpe and Oldham on Saturday, two wins and we are back on track - but no, lash out like spoilt children. Fuckin shame on you!

Nope. I've consistently said, on here and back on BUVP, and even back in the good old days of Viewpoints, that Monty is turd in a Blades shirt. Just to refresh, my POV is that yes, he is a ninety minute man, but it is ninety minutes of hopeless football. I don't see many United games, but funnily enough, every time mine eyes fall upon the Blades playing it is the same old story with our midfield dynamo. Woeful passing, precious little connectivity with his fellow midfielders, no footballing tactical acumen, fuck all in the goals department and sadly, the ability to get his doddy-feet tangled up in the opposition (think it was Cardiff last year, like) to give away the predictable freekick that will lead to us going behind. I haven't heard from anyone (and I read Deadbat's accounts almost by religion) the item -

Montgomery 9/10. Today, as ever, he was immense. Linked up the midfield, dominated play, provided the killer ball for our winning goal and went off on 85 to a standing ovation.

That's what I'd expect to be reading about a player who has been consistently picked in the same midfield position for almost a decade. We used to laugh about whether or not Warnock was bumming him on the side ... now I wonder what other managers have for him?

We've had bags of opportunity to cash in on what people believe to be a box-to-box playmaker, midfield battler or centre-of-park general, which is everything I have heard levelled at him. He is none of this, simply ballast. Best i saw him do was the mis-hit pass at Newcastle five years ago that gave us a 1-0 win. Over ten years, not much more.

We need better and deserve it.

pommpey

Absolutely Pommpey! Sadly, most of them cling on to mediocrity for grim death. They would even select the numpty again on Wednesday! Believe me, he was dreadful even by his own standards (and they are so low even the world limbo dancing champion would struggle to get beneath them).

There is nothing this non-footballer could do; no depths to which this abject shadow-chaser could descend, that would convince his legions of admirers that he should be other than first on the team-sheet.

You have to laugh (and comedy is the one thing he does quite well) or you'd despair.

Sentimental value and like I said last season he has become part of the furniture at United.

Maybe the message comes from McCabe to any new manager "Monty must stay and you must build a squad with him in or else"

Although that is the excuse when Monty has a bad game its the team that has had a bad game. Although I have seen Monty in teams that have won and drawn games and have done so carrying Monty.

No club has ever made a genuine move for Monty and we thought when Warnock left he was one of the players that would eventually follow him but still hasn't. Warnock went and signed Derry twice over rather than make a move for Monty and I reckon Derry may end up at L**ds again sooner than Monty.

Like I have already said I expected Monty to look better in this division but he seems even worse at League 1 level.

Precisely. Measure the man and his ability by the number of offers of interest we have in our star players. Brown, Jags, Tongy, CKR, BT, 2 x Kyles, Kilgallon, even Danny Webber have all been in, done at least something to warrant interest and then been sold on.

The way people go on, anyone would think we are sitting with a £3m player in our midfield. He's shit. We'll be lucky to free transfer him, if at all. No offers, no interest. The mark of the player.

Where pommpey? Where have you gained the impression that anyone thinks that Monty is other than a limited footballer? The only polarised opinion comes from your camp - those who can't see that he's offered anything to us in his time.

Since the PL season he is on a daft wage for most Championship clubs or other lower league teams to want him. They would know their money would be better spent elsewhere and I think that might even be a reason Warnock has not moved for him.

The players you mentioned will of had similar wages but the reason they moved on is because they had some quality about them that teams didn't mind paying the wage.

Have none of us ever sat down and wondered why he is still here after all these years? If he was so useful he would of gone and we know we love to sell players.

>It is not the critic who counts
theodore roosevelt.. yawn..
i've nothing against monty.. but he changes our method of play to an ineffective style.. 'ooh its a battle.. we need a battler'.. only if we allow it to become a battle.. huddersfield were big hoof battlers and we beat them..
anyway i said this would happen and got universally slated from some parts.. not that i'm gloating..i'd rather monty had a blinder and then i'd have pushed off.. but a mighty middle finger to those who were slagging me off..
we should play williamson or even lowton in the middle.. and hoskins has to start.. cressy is fagged out

I think he had offers two summers ago, but Blackwell was desperate to keep him and told Birch to make resigning Monty, Morgan, Cresswell and Quinn top of his priority list. I think it is fair to assume that their long contracts were on very good money.

blackwell has a lot to answer for .. the master of mediocrity.. i often speculate he knew he was on his way out due to Speed's increasing influence, so thought he'd poison the chalice

breaks up play.. ours unfortunately.. patterson is a good spot actually.. he used to cause similar splits in the ranks

Yep his name starts with P for Parrot.

Never in the field of human football has one player been so slated by one poster.

Not sure but Id wager a Mr Heskey and a certain Mr Bramble gets a fair bit of abuse from many football fans.

We might wonder why Monty hasn't been rumbled over the last decade or so for being the pub player he is, we might wonder why some still jump to his defence or why he is still with United after so long ? Maybe the rest of the footballing world can see what shite he is, maybe even our fat Turry couldn't sell him at a knockdown half price of 50p. Hopefully Warnock might come to the rescue and take the Leeds born turd off our hands, but make no mistake if Wilson had any real alternatives Monty would never pull on a United shirt. The trouble with a lot of Blades is that they have been brought up on the style of hoofball suited to Monty's game. Since the Basset days and apart from a brief interlude with the Kendall/Spackman team we have suffered the kick and chase style seen in infant school playgrounds. Few if anyone under the age 45 watching the Blades know any better, passion and running for 90mins is great if you have a few good players like Warnock did but we all know how bad it was with Blackwell and no good players, until we rid ourselves of the dregs left by the last few incumbents calling themselves managers we will always fall short when it matters. I suppose that is the downfall of being a selling club we always are left with the shite, being 2nd in the third tier dosn't disguise the fact that we are still basicly SHITE.

this miss hit pass? (1 min 48)

or are you talking about the game at the lane when he set up nade?

Some top, top stuff on this thread.

Impossible to say how bad Monty is or to add to what we already knew, but it was a serious warning to Danny Wilson yesterday and he has take note. OK playing Monty meant we inevitably lost the game against an awful wendy side but I trust it will be the last we have seen of Monty. If it isn't and Wilson thinks we need him in the team in these next 2 home games then we have serious problems.

Hoskins, Willo, Quinn can all play in the middle until Kmac returns with Doyle been told to sit as and when required. Let's make it into a game of who can score more - I'll take that chance against Scunthorpe and Oldham. Let's not have the potentially great campaign derailed by a chorus of boos and ridicule raining down on a player who'sl egs have gone and who cannot kick a ball.

>or are you talking about the game at the lane when he set up nade?
well that's two contributions in ten years.. anything else to add??
metalblade is bang on.. of that mega midfield we had in '04..
brown.. sold
tonge.. sold
mccall.. retired
jagielka (occaisionally).. sold
monty.. not sold

if they're any good we sell them..

>but it was a serious warning to Danny Wilson yesterday and he has take note
he could lose the fans very quickly if he isn't careful
