You want the whole team: Controlling the ball as though it's a spring-loaded jelly? Passing it like a hand-grenade? Shooting in such a way as to endanger low-flying aircraft? Giving more penalties and free-kicks than the ref? Chasing more shadows than Cliff Richard?

It sure makes for an interesting season ahead!

Didn't say that though did I, "As much as I dislike Monty" and "For all his flaws" - quite clearly I meant the part about giving 100% as I didn't even mention anything about his (lack of) ability.

Keeping a player like Monty on 10k a week in the 1st division is breaking the bank. This could be our 2nd chance (after SOD) to change how the club thinks in the last 6 months. I like Monty but we shouldn't need that type of player in the 1st division.

Still, all I was doing was questioning the mentality of some fans who say he isn't good enough for us but would be good enough for another Championship (or Premier League) club.

Monty, the highest paid earner in the 3rd tier, takes on the captaincy. He's been doing a great job this season in Morgans absence hasn't he? The guy is a plodder, clogger and his time is up at the Lane. He epitomises what is wrong with the club (all heart and no skill) and needs to be shifted. The guy will be earning 10-15k a week and that is not sustainable in League One. Plus, if we are going to pay high wages, then you want someone who adds a lot of value. Someone with skill, pace, creativity or a goal scoirng instinct. Monty is a workhorse, but that is as far as it goes.

His time is up. We should be looking to get rid of over the hill, never been players on big contracts and start again. Going down to the 3rd tier offers a chance for a fresh start and a clear out. Monty should be first on the list (along with Cresswell). Making him captain is ludicrous.

Are you seriosuly suggesting we should bust the bank to keep a very average player at the Lane next year??? After all the problems we have had with unsustainable wages and now you suggest that we keep a double figure earner at the club. 500k a year (probably around a tenth of the money we can spend on wages for the whole squad) for someone who is a defensive midfielder, scores once in a blue moon, can't pass, can't control and gives away a tireless number of fouls.

Monty does a job. I'll give you that. He breaks up opposition attacks well (though does nothig with the ball) and gives hundred percent. He will work damn hard (usually chasing shadows) and run hi socks off. Fair enough. Enough for him to be our biggest earner in the 3rd tier? Hell no.

We need a fresh start. There are plenty of defensive midfielders out there who can do what he does (and some can even pass). Geez, even Doyle could do that job in League One (he did it with Leeds).

I'll put the poldder, carthorse and clogger comments aside (my opinion) but god, paying him a small fortune to break up opposition attacks (then break up our attacks) in League One. Making him captain is ludicrous. You only have to look at his record as captain this year. We cannot afford to be paying average players big money, never mind giving them the arm band.

For what it is worth I think that Morgs will come back for next year. We should be looking for him and Lowton to be playing CB and building a partnership together.
