Nice one Leon

Our attack is our enigma and its variations divide opinions from one week to the next.
Tonight Billy was anonymous , Hanson played his own role very well - I stress his own role, leading the line with his height & strength , Clarke surprised us all by appearing to be slimmer & fitter than earlier in the season.
We played it a lot in the air from deep , which gives Billy no chance to influence the game but Hanson plenty.
Billy then loses interest and flatly "refuses" to play off the well placed nod-downs from Hanson.
CW can't sub him - he's unsubbable until he's knackered - so he drags him backwards and Clarke makes a better fist of playing off Hanson.
Clarke is not the target-man you infer from his height - he's a taller , faster version of Billy but not as strong in the tussle and without the scoring touch - but he buried his chance nicely tonight.
We should all forget about fighting each other on behalf of Billy, Hanson or Clarke as to who's best.
We haven't spent big money and we can't afford a "compleat" striker (yet).
For the present , we are doing pretty well with the ones who played tonight , plus Lavery and (in the early season) Done.
They have all brought different things to the table at different times.

That's now the Chesterfield, Oldham and Coventry games this season where Clarke has made a considerable difference having come off the bench. I don't see where the hatred comes from to be honest. As much as people moan about him he's clever and he knows how to rattle defenders, he's done it to us for years and now we have that in the locker.

Next season I would hope that we won't have to call on him but I think from his actual time on the pitch this year he has given us maximum points in games that we otherwise might not have won.

Well I thought Hanson was dreadful personally! He can win flick ons and that is seemingly the of his abilities. The ball never once stuck to his feet, he gave the ball to Coventry several times which led to them having a dangerous attack and he missed a sitter early on! Clarke looked much much livelier than Hanson. Despite all of Clarke's shortfalls, he can actually contribute to the football, not just as a 'target' man.

I aren't going to say you're wrong for disagreeing but I really can't see how people think Hanson was brilliant tonight. Or most nights, for that matter.
That's how it actually was. FACT.

The folks that cheer and clap raucously when Hanson wins a header that goes straight to an opponent obviously live in a parallel universe.

"Hanson was excellent tonight". Fuck me backwards.

That's three games now where Leon's had a major impact from the bench - Chessie, Oldham and last night. Just goes to show how important the wider squad's been throughout the season.

We've been quite fortunate with injuries this season but with Clarke, Chapman and to an extent Lavery out for long periods, we've been without three players who can make a massive impact.

I don't hate any of our magnificent promotion squad. Clarke's impact off the bench has been accepted previously. What he's failed to do is match that impact when named in the starting line-up, for whatever reason.

The fact that some are now suggesting Clarke be brought in with the player that's the league's top scorer by some margin dropping out is kneejerkery at its worst.

He hasn't scored for 3 games and some people have nothing else to whinge about so dropping our captain and top scorer is something to moan at.

I don't think Hanson had a bad game last night but he does sometimes have terrible touch. Usually, at least once in a game he miscontrols so badly that it has given the opposition a dangerous break away. If he's fit enough, I think Clarke's cameo last night should earn him a starting place on Saturday. I wouldn't drop Billy either, because despite him not playing very well in the last few games, he's still liable to score.

That looked like a fit Leon Clarke for the first time this season. Whatever rehab he's done recently has finally worked.

His movement was good and faced up the defenders who didn't like it one bit.

Played well.

Honestly Clarke did very little when he came on other than get himself on the end of a great ball and credit where credit's due - well done to him for that. Carruthers on the other hand came on and ran the game. Thought he was man of the match, there are a lot of people wondering why Fleck played so much better in the second half and there you are, Carruthers. Absolutely cracking feet with a real direct attitude that we otherwise seem to be lacking at times.

Overall though, Wilder made a great call tonight in both substitutions and he's the real hero of the night.

So that one goal makes the Clarke signing a success?

Glad he's scored tonight and can't knock him tonight, but this "experts" comment is bollocks. Why not just praise the lad without having a dig at other posters?
Why have a go at Clarke in the first place, he's a blades player

It's now 5 games.

And for reasons previously discussed, it IS a concern.

Ps I'm not suggesting Sharp should be dropped btw ;)

Usually, maybe once a game, he DOES manage to control the football !!

Herein lies the problem.

Oooh matron

It really isn't...
When our top scorer, who is close to his 200th career goal, which by any measure is a significant milestone, is reduced to playing a false 9 role, or picking the ball up in midfield, as has been the case in recent games, I believe you are wrong dear boy.

He was a poor offside decision away from a goal last night, and it's fairly likely he'll score in the next match if an opportunity comes his way. Again, it's not a concern.

I'm confident that, the way we are setting up at present, and the role Wilder now has for Sharp, it is something that Billy does have some concerns over. As do I.

But maybe others are right. Maybe now is the time to start thinking of a life, in the Championship, without Sharp, or where he plays a less central role / less pitch time / more off the bench.

I trust Tufty. Why wouldn't you ? But he has, in no uncertain terms, gotten this whole Hanson thing very very badly wrong. IMHO.

Honestly Clarke did very little when he came on

Disagree with you there. Clarke was on fire as soon as he came on. If there was a bookies near my seat I'd have put money on him getting the vital goal. The defenders just couldn't get near him. Maybe that was due to them watching Hanson and Sharp but it looked like he was definitely on a mission. I don't understand why you think he did very little.

If Clarke starts he has to be allowed to play to his strengths. Playing him as a target man like Hanson doesn't work.
