At this stage of the season, I like to break the remaining fixtures up as 'bite-sized chunks' or Phases.

I'd count our next three games as Phase One. At Wendy next week, and what seems an almost impossible-to-predict game, I think it all points to a draw. Wendy simply daren't lose a fourth on the trot and United are well 'due' a draw (Not drawn since 29th October, fourteen League games and 19 in all competitions). Then a couple of eminently-winnable home games on the following Wednesday (Scunthorpe) and Saturday (Oldham). I'll take seven points out of nine.

Phase Two is our run of 3 away games in eight days - Walsall, Brentford and Colchester. Extremely hard to guess but, if Phase One has gone to plan, we are more than 'due' another loss and I can see it coming at one of these horrible little games that must be endured. I'm guessing 4 points out of nine (sorted travellingblade!) from these games.

So, if it all goes to plan, we'll face Tranmere at home on Saturday 17th March (and you, sitwell!) with 73 points and 10 games to play. Should be enough to keep us second.

However, if we can improve on what seems a modest haul from Phase 2, we should be breathing down Charlton's necks. Just 6 points ahead at the mo.

Whew! Think I'll go for a lie down!

If youre going to be pedantic shouldn't it be March and not Oct ?

Is the Scunthorpe match on a Tuesday? I thought it was Wednesday, which means I can't go, but if it's a Tuesday, I can.

I agree with your view on the upcoming games, think Colechester will be the toughie. But I daren't believe that we will win any match until it's 89mins and we are at least 2-0 ahead. Trying not to get too carried away with it all at the minute.

Both home games against Scunthorpe (Feb 29th) and Chesterfield (Mar 28) are to be played on a Wednesday

Sorry for the errors - all sorted now.

Just knackered after waiting until half twelve for the action on The Football League Show. Yet another reason to get out of this God-awful division (unless you like Starsky & Hutch...)

14 wins in one really good phase would be preferable 12 will do though

heres a tip , go to bed and watch the football league show at 7.30 on 301 on freeview
its repeated ad infinitum all night till 9 ish
I could watch it awake

We were once 2-0 up against Wolves (in 1994-5 season) with about 89 minutes on the clock and still failed to win!

Yep, and after the game I had to drive back to Slough with a WW supporting accountant contact saying " what happened with the penalty" "how did we score that one" ad infinitum.

How I wish I could have just stopped and kicked him out.

It was almost worse than that, after they equalised, they almost scored a winner.

Some time later, it was discovered that one of the goals at Molineux was an inch or so taller than it should have been and in the news item on Midlands Today, they showed one of the goals from our game, wherre the ball had just crept under the bar with the question as to whether it should have been a goal at all.

I think it was one of theirs, but the mists of time might be playing a trick on me.

I believe from the last 16 games IF we can get around 30 points, 7 home wins + 3 away wins or any mix with draws, i thnk 92 points will be enough to give us auto promotion, anything above 30 points will give us a good tilt and the title.
but as long as we duplicate or better results got by teams below us in last 16 games then we are going up, obvious i know but true non the less.
on a side note, someone mentioned yesterday even if we lose to wendy AND lose games in hand we are still 2 points + far superior goal difference above wendy, food for thought :)

We can actually do a bit worse than the sides below us and still go up. Not that I'm suggesting that would be a good tactic!

Mind you we have also won a lot of games when all has seemed lost. I know it wasn't from 2 goals down, but we did beat Leeds in the League cup in 2002 sfter being a goal down with 91 minutes on the clock.

And in that great promotion season of 1970-1 we came back to 3-3 after being 3-0 down to Bristol City. At least one of those goals was scored very late on.

There was a game against West Brom in 1966 when we were losing I think 3 -0 or 3-1 with 10 minutes to go and won 4-3. The headline in the Green'Un was that we had been thrashed, the reporter presumably having left before the end of the game

I can't believe the green un is now One Pound. What a con. Its probably because most people stopped buying it becuase it is rubbish.

Being charitable, because of the very tight deadline, the reporter would phone through most of the match report at half time, and then just add a closing sentence or two when the game was over (no internet in those days!).

Being less charitable, it was rumoured that one reporter used to write most of his stuff in the pub on Bramall Lane.

I remember that game - it was in the days of "stop press" when they would re-visit the sellers with an ink pad and rubber stamp and update the news in the "stop press" column.

10 wins would see us definite 2nd
12 might see us as champions

cant see huddersfield or wednesday bettering 85 points to be honest so 7 wins and 4 draws might be enough

You should have done. Just being a wolves fan merits that.
