Between Nathan Thomas, Ched and Lavery as he said he has unfinished business here he might get the form he had at Norwich or from has last season with us we might be in for a surprise from both of them, Lavery was in quite good form last season before he got injured maybe Wilder can get the best out of him

for me it's got to be Nathan Thomas. If we continue with the 3-5-2 formation I can see him playing that attacking midfield role just behind (I hope) Ched & Billy. His pace, trickery and direct approach will be hard for championship defenders to deal with.
Very good call for Nathan Thomas!. It might take ched a few games to find his best but hopefully not!. Billy could shock a few people!!.

Could Jake surprise us yet again and step up to championship level? A few are writing him off already but who knows. He's as cool as a cucumber with not a panic in him. A big step up for him but also for a few others in the squad. A big ask but i think he'll do it.

I think Enda Stevens could become a fan favourite.
He was Pprtmouths player of the year two years in a row and we know how much we appreciate a marauding wing back.

Reason I haven't put Carruthers is I think he will be excellent anyway.
Think there will be LOTS of surprises coming from us but, for me, I think the real stand out could just be Samir Carruthers. With our team and a full preseason under his belt CW and AK will light the blue touch paper and stand well back!
enda stevens, agreed I think he will be excellent next season, great defensively and attacking with a great cross

I don't particularly worry about individuals but I am looking forward to seeing a fully fit Lavery.

Then again the last two signings I got really excited about were Young and Finnieston so what do I know?

Did teach me not to get over excited by any future "big name" signings though ;)

I'm not sure Lavery is quite championship pedigree. That said he struggled to get a proper run in the side and was hampered with injuries last year.

In an optimistic world I'd like to see whiteman kick on at Donny - bang in a few goals and then come back and contribute for us in the second half of the season.

Hope Stevens will be a big player for us too.

I hope it's Lavery. I'm desperate to see him do well for a number of reasons. He's got a bit of everything ability wise. He seems like a good character. We got him on the cheap from Wednesday. He was unlucky last season and deserves a break from niggling injuries. He's not played many games for his age, if he plays regularly he could develop significantly. If he does do well we won't automatically sell him within 6 months - he's someone we could keep for quite a while. Interesting, promising but unpredictable player.

Forgot to mention Whiteman. He could be a regular for us after January.

Lavery is 24 yrs old, has 34 Championship appearances under his belt (6 goals) and looked really good in patches last season.

This time he is in for a full pre season and it could be make or break for him but so far I've seen enough to stir my interest.

As a bit of an aside, I see that 17 of our squad have some Championship experience and still some folk think they are all Championship rookies needing experienced help.

It's a long time since I've looked forward to a season as much as I am now.

That's a coincedence, before even opening the thread I was going to suggest Nathan Thomas too.

Apparently he's a real talent but very inconsistent.
If he clicks he could be our best signing of the season.

Also agree Ched, many seem to have written him off
But he's a man in a mission with a lot to prove, it wouldn't surprise me if he outshines Sharp and Clarke.

Good point about the full preseason.

I'd forgotten how long the signing took last year - he essentially missed all the preseason training with us and was playing catch up for months.

Great thread, loads to look forward to and I wouldn't disagree with any of the players named having a great season. Could we close the thread now whilst its still really positive and before the doom and gloom mob spoil it with all relegation battle and happy to finish outside the bottom 3 stuff that keeps getting mention:rolleyes:

Where do all these players fit in next season? Gotta love the likes of Duffy, can we drop Freeman, can Curruthers get in the starting 11? Looking at some of the names above we could be totally destroying possibly the most successful midfield unit in years.

I hope Lavary does well, him and Clark will love it v pigs, imagine the look on their faces when both are bought on with 25 mins to go to batter their already weary defence.

SHEFFIELD DOUBLE

I think enda Stevens will be a surprise and cement his place in the team. Nathan Thomas will either sink or swim, one of those signing that is the biggest risk in terms of making a impact.

Fuck Wednesday! Nowt to do with this thread but had a few sherberts.....fuck em!

For me, next season's surprising player at the Lane would be David Brooks.
The club would be showing some intent for the future.

I agree with the 1st line but disagree with the showing intent bit.

What's wrong with letting a player prove how good he is first, then give him the rewards?.

Really hate the recent trend where players with talent and potential want or expect the reward first.
That's why we have load of happy youngsters at top PL clubs on £10K a week and they've hardly ever played first team football
But in their mind they have had a successful careers because of the money they've had out of the game.

Agree he has ability and Wilder will be keeping tabs on him. If he's good enough I'm sure he'll get chances to play.

I agree with the point you're making.
My point was more that we hadn't succumbed to the first Premiership team that waved their chequebook.

Stevens looks like he could be a cracking player for us. Very excited to see him in the red and white.

That said, I'd love nothing more than for Lavery to bang in a 90th minute winner in front of the kop at the sty in September, then give it both barrels to the deluded masses. Not normally a fan of such things but I want to see him looking up at the devastated delusionals, kissing the badge and pounding his chest Wilder-style. That would be glorious.

bahsam sharp and clarke are our most experienced i think they've spent a large part of their career in the championship sharp and basham especially i believe john fleck had a spell in the championship with blackpool as well

Maybe the most surprising player hasn't been signed yet? A young striker from a Prem club on loan.

Sam Graham,we fail to land any centre halfs,Sam gets his chance in a pre season game, never looks back, this time next year he signs for Man City

Watched him play a couple of times. Thought he was a real find and and is a real prospect. Not yet ready for the first team - but might get a game in the U 23's? Only 17/18.

James Hanson for all the un-warranted stick he's had , with more wide players now than we've had in an age he'll benefit greatly , or should I say the players around him will , we'll need him next season as a target & link man particularly against better midfields . He won't be high on the goal scoring list but the people around him will .
