If I was in charge at Bramall Lane.....
Core First Team Squad:-
GK:- Kenny, Aksalu
DF:- Naysmith, Morgan
MF- Ward, Montgomery, Williamson, Quinn, Yeates
FW:- Creswell
Transfer List/Sell/Release:- Bennett, Haber, Geary, France, Taylor, Stewart, Fortune, Harper, Evans, Sharp, Henderson, Camara, Robertson
Contract Policy:- All core first team squad players should have at least 2 years left on their contract before the season begins. Any players refusing to commit to this should be transfer-listed. This will improve stability and forward planning and avoid the Brown/Kilgallon scenario of players being sold for less than their true market value.
Sales policy:- No core first team squad players will be sold during the course of the season. The manager will therefore be in a position to build around the core squad with confidence his plans won’t be disrupted by unexpected last-minute sales.
Expenditure policy:- Transfer fees will only be invested in players who are likely to increase in value over the length of their contract (typically this would mean players under 26 years old).
Free transfer policy:- More experienced players can be signed on free transfers providing they fit into the existing wage structure. All new recruits must have an above average injury record.
Long-term Loans policy:- A maximum of three full-season loan players should be brought in before the start of the season. These would typically be first-choice players who it would not otherwise be possible to bring in on a permanent basis (e.g. Halford/Walker). No recall clauses will be accepted.
Short-term Loans policy:- The three other available loan slots can then be used to cover for injuries and suspensions as and when required.
Reserves/Academy policy:- All teams throughout the club will play the same tactics, formation and style of football which will ease the transition through the ranks. The manager should always look to “promote from within” where possible rather than recruiting or borrowing players.
Style of football policy:- The manager should commit to playing open, entertaining, attack-minded football. The manager’s performance will be judged on adherence to this policy in equal measure to the results achieved. In return, the club will expect fans to make allowances and show understanding if the attacking policy results in occasional heavy defeats.
