With it now confirmed Doyle won't be with us next year, who takes over the armband?
The obvious one is Brayford, but with rumours of at least 6 months out, surely club will have a firm deputy, rather than a different captain every week, as has been the case towards the end of the season... Injury dependant, i could see James Wallace as a likely candidate.

It's Captain Blade isn't it!
5'3...versatile...Scottish ancestry ( check out the ginger hair!) and a big hit with fans both young and old...

I bet Captain Blade couldn't believe his luck when he saw that job ad in The Star, " Wanted: person with large head and beer belly, only needs to work one afternoon and sometimes one evening a week, own pirates costume, outsize boots and two swords a definite advantage, as is living near Bramall Lane"

Fuck knows why Mac had the armband, although Basham had a defensive stinker as well.

It's funny, in January I was posting on here that after the QPR game McEv looked a future captain, alongside Kennedy he look solid, assured and a leader. But that's alongside Kennedy.

With Alcock the pair were at best, shite and at their worst Diabolical. Added to that he looked low on confidence.

So now I'm not sure

Brayford long time probably bash or McEv short term

Was hoping we might have 2 new central defenders

Clough constantly refers to Brayford as our "best player" which I always think is an odd thing for a manager to do, that said the captaincy doesn't always go to your top guy.
Position wise and influence wise you'd have to say Basham. Who I think is AWESOME by the way

I wasn't suggesting i would chose Brayford as captain, I don't think he is vocal enough, but I can't see Clough not giving him the Armband... Might have even been promised to him when he dropped down for us

What's tubby Baxter doing with them oldies?

The captain had better yet to be bought

Howard would be one of the first players i would replace!
I don't rate Howard too much, but I think he needs to be given a chance in front of a solid, stable back 4. He looked good when he had Maguire and Collins in front of me.

Sorry to all for my flippancy yesterday. Struggling to seriously discuss next season's captaincy when we don't know who will be here. Hopefully we'll sign a number of leaders and one of them will be an obvious choice

Bash for me although by the sound of it we may also be seeking a replacement for him over the summer too.

The planned supplementing of the existing squad over the summer is quickly turning into another major rebuild. The biggest worry (in more ways than one) is that with all the out of contract players and loan returnees, Coutts would be the only remaining part of the spine with (as a minimum) a new GK, 2 x CBs, 1 x CM and 1 x CF required.

Don't think many apart from maybe me and Gary could fit in that costume. God knows how he operates them turntables whilst DJ ing, if he still does that.

Would agree with those who suggested basham, basham is always there when our backs are against the wall and seems proud to be part of this club, looks to be a natural leader
