Flecks been as poor as the rest of the midfield, but the kids playing in the academy sides would really have to step up massively. These kids are behind those out on loan, so unless they play between now and the end of the season and prove themselves they’ve still got a way to go.
Squad wise we’ve a young keeper, with a good experience defence which is what you need. Going with several young unexperienced players in your defence is asking for trouble.
Baldock/Bogle, Bash, Egan, JoC, RND/Lowe is solid. Personally I’d like someone like Ampadu on loan with a view to buy if promoted to replace Bash longer term, and clearly if Egan or JoC leave then we’ve got someone familiar to slot in while the replacements get upto speed.
Midfield needs a complete overhaul but has experience in Fleck and Norwood both of which may be difficult to move on. Osborne offers coverage of several positions which is important for the 50/60 game season and is also experienced.
Mowatt is available on a free, left footed and experienced allowing for the other areas to be open for youth. The lad from Belgium seems sensible if he’s ready and the loans also should be used to compliment and fill out this area.
Upfront we have a balance of experience and Youth already so we’re pretty much set.
So, all in all we’re pretty well set. We need a midfield and to replace those who we sell but using the loans (all with views to buy) we could have a very exciting squad for the season, but we need to move away from any reliance on the players who got us promoted in midfield or upfront.
