Next Season

Blackwell has had a hand in Terry Robinson, Fogg and Ron Reid leaving - in other words blamed everyone around him but himself - Sam Ellis was considered a football dinosaur years ago.

We need a new outlook a break from the 'battling' tag.

I have to agree with you FB. I was on the JS concourse at half time on Saturday and was greeted with what a waste of 45 minutes of my life. Its the boredom factor that is stopping renewals. If there isn't a change I can see revenue dropping by £1.5 Million.

Blackie came to the club and we almost achieved the playoffs. This was his best season for me he had nothing to lose. Following seasons have resulted in turgid football not losing being a priority.

If SOD was the next manager I hope all Blades would give him time to settle. He has promoted Donny through the playoffs and won the JP trophy. His team has outplayed us, all with a tiny budget.

Lots of people saying they want to keep Naysmith. Assuming the rumours are right and he's on £17k a week, what would be the maximum you'd be willing to pay him next season?

I'd say he'd need to accept a cut in the region of £10k a season and, probably, take a maximum 2 year deal. Don't see it happening.

I think Taylor is better than a lot of people give him credit for although his injury record is a worry.

If the wage budget is tight, and it is, I'd say left back is down the list of priorities (in terms of spend).

Agree with nearly all of that Coop, have you heard the Naysmith interview on Bladeplayer. Now keeping in mind that he knows he is talking to the fans it was quite insightful.

He says he's taken a lot of money from the club this season without being able to play, knows he was on Premiership money and that can no longer be the case, he wants to play and understands our financial situation. He finishes by saying he hopes there is a happy medium and he can sign.
I hope a deal can be sensibly be done because although I like Taylor I think he can learn a lot from Naysmith.

There is another aspect to why I think Naysmith could be important and that is in regards to bringing in new players.
You need a core of experienced, senior pro's at the club and this is more important if there is a big overhaul happening. With Paddy, Morgan and Naysmith I think you can bed in another two players without it having a big effect on the defensive unit. Just having Paddy and Morgan makes this a fair bit more difficult IMHO.

>It is all by the by because I believe he will be relieved of his duties and moved upstairs but I think the case against him is pretty strong.
amen.

I think you make an excellent point here; that trio would provide a very experienced (not to mention able) foundation along side which a couple of promising deffenders could flourish in my opinion.

The general concensus seems to be that the lack on consistency with regards to the starting eleven has been one of the biggest contributors towards our poor performance levels this season.
If we can keep Paddy, Morgs and Naysmith (and keep them fit) then we have the makings of a deffensive unit that could hold it's own in the premiership never mind the championship.

Anyway, next season!

It's sounds as if Portsmouth will be fucked from the start with a rumoured 17 point deduction and Hull could go into admin. as well. If they don't, it'll be because they've sold all their 'good' (read has-been) players and will have to start from scratch. Also, with Dowie as manager, they're not going anywhere fast.

Ipswich and Reading could well come good. Don't expect the losing play-off teams to be automatically in the frame (usual hangover). Leeds, if they go up could easily ride the tide in front of big crowds every home game.

It has been the usual crap CCC - all much of a muchness.

The pigs - if they survive - won't be anything under Irvine. So, I reckon we could be in for a good 2010-11!

Next season is a strange old one. Can't see any of the relegated teams getting automatic. I expect Boro and Leicester to be strong and I think that Reading and particularly QPR will be good bets. Then there are a bunch of average sides who challenge the play offs (Cardiff, Swansea, Blackpool).

Can't see us being anywhere near the top (or play offs). That is based on there being no change at the helm though. Everyone keeps saying we are 6 players away from being a decent team. I agree with this, but have no confidence that Blackwell can achieve this. We might be left with a good core to the squad, but I would be amazed if Blackwell brought in more than 2 or 3 decent signings.

We face tough times ahead. Even if we bring someone new in then what are the chances they are going to be succesful strasight away? Pretty slim I'd say.

Sorry to seem pessimistic. Actulally, fuck it, I'm not. We are facing bleak times regardless and next season is not going to be a good one. The division might be shit, but so are we. We don't even have enough contracted players to put out a team!? Take your red and white specs off and face up to the fact that we'll be lucky to finish in the top half next season.

what ?what does that mean ?

when i hear the familiar talk of making the play offs, i think straight away no ambition from up above, especially after the forum with mccabe & birch on radio sheff on friday,i.e. wage bill will be cut again ! what a surprise. remember 3 play off finals,,,,,, no goals scored, 5 against

I remember reading talk on ere and other forums that this season was going to be a long struggle and Wednesday would overtake us. It's not really been that at all and Wednesday are currently 16 points behind us.

what ?what does that mean ?

it means i am not sorry for being pessimistic. We are goig nowehere next season and people should take their red and white spectacles off and lower their expectations.
