Next season reality check

I ve seen several posts on here that seem to think next season we ll be back in the mix for promotion or even automatic.
Not a hope in hell in my opinion.

First of all, the manager situation.
Its been 6 weeks now since Widers departure and we are still no closer to a definate replacement. If the powers that be are serious about our return to the so called best league in the world ,surely someone of substance would have been brought in by now. We dont even look close to signing anyone of note. Knowing our history it is going to be either Heckinbottom or Tindle. In which case God help us.

Now the squad.
High chance Berge will be gone , if not in the close season then definitely by January. Similarly with Egan, JOC and maybe Ramsdale and Baldock.

Leaving us with a nucleus of who exactly?

Billy, McGoldrick and Basham. All good solid pro's but ageing.

Jimmy (not John) Fleck. Norwood. Stevens. All of them half the players they were last season. Osborn, Busy player with potential in Championship
Bryan, Lowe, Bogle. Inconsistent at best
Rodwell and Robinson, medicore Championship level. Jags, excellent pro but ancient.

And an attack force of:
Mcburnie, hardly a prolifict goalscorer. Brewster, (did we really pay £23 million????) not a sniff of a goal in 24 appearnces. Burke. speed of a cheetah, football ability of a cheetah. Mousset (see Burke)

Lundstrum, well we all know his situation. The thing that worries me most is, who in their right mind will come in for him even on a free. Please dont let him stay.

I know we have bright prospects in some of our youngsters but knowing us of old they will not be given the opportunity of first team football with us but most likely be off loaded cheap.

Unless we get a manager who knows the championship well, and can motivate this depleted, lack of confidence bunch we currently have , then we are screwed. He will also need to be backed to bring in good quality players at this level. Our history does not bode well in this case.

I predict another long hard season in which we will finish bottom half. I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to be proved so.

Tin hat now on.

Clueless lol

Fire power of Hatton Edwards and Morris Central midfield of Trusson and Matthews MacPhail and Kenworthy,Kenworthy getting 16 goals that season .We didn't get beat at home that season beating the European Champions Arsenal 1.0 and taking them to extra time at Arsenal you sure
When have Arsenal ever been European Champions?

I think we have the core of a very good Championship squad; at the moment its spirit has been broken by this clusterfuck of a season.

We need the right manager to come in, shake things up, get us playing attacking football, and make the players feel like winners again.

We need a clever transfer strategy to trim the dead wood (there's loads), sell one or two big players to fund a rebuild, and then add pace, flair, and creativity in midfield and out wide.

We need the fans back in and we need them to be patient because it's not likely to click all at once.

If all those things fall into place then we could easily bounce back straight away. If we don't get at least a majority of this right then we could struggle. It's hard to predict which way it's going to go.
I think what you have listed above are all true and valid points, it's just a tall order asking for all of that to happen in the space of 3 months:

New manager - looking difficult already
Trimming deadwood - age of the players, contracts, every team's skint etc...
Selling big players - not a problem, but it's the fee we require which could mean we sell a few more than we hope
Adding pace, flair and creativity - depends on the new manager/scouting dept
Fans back in - out of our hands

Let's face it... we need another Chris Wilder to get us up on the 1st time of asking.

IMO we need a manager who can work with the current squad but change the system they play in, instil belief, bring through youth players and work in the confines of using the loan market, working in small steps.

1. bin off Lunny and do what we need to raise the £40m required (Berge, Mousset, Stevens, list/release fringe players)
2. Get assurance from the board to keep the rest of the squad
3. instil some belief and motivation
4. assess the youth team and current 1st players - who can do a job for us? who can play in a different system to 5-3-2?
5. get us playing a new system which isnt completely alien e.g. 3 at the back
6. sign PL loan players for any gaps we have in the new system. (i.e. cam/wingers)

Genuinely think that should be enough to make us competitive in the Championship.

IMO it's less about the players we could have, and more about convincing the ones already here that they are decent

You'll be proved right. I do not doubt it. The ship has no captain, rudder, or anchor.
Typical Sheffield United fiasco.

good post bongle especially on a new system to this day cant believe chris didnt try something different it will be either 343 or 433 i think when a new manager comes in

We don't have a manager and the squad is likely to see sizable changes. How could you possibly know either way?

Because they want attention and don't get enough hugs in other parts of their lives!

Therefore they're left with writing asinine posts on an internet forum that are based on nothing other than emotion and conjecture, hoping strangers who feel equally as unimportant react...

Not really worried how long takes to get manager in as long as it's the best option for the club.

As I see it we have 2 years to get promoted back up before we fall back into the pack. With parachute money, the sale of Berge and alot of championship clubs and European clubs feeling the pinch of covid we should be able to build a strong squad good enough for at least top 6 either next season or season after.

Anything less than that and I would consider the new manager a failed investment.

Edwards has never scored in the 1st division for any of the clubs he played for
This season our main striker scored 8 Kenworthy scored 16 from centre back I think Edwards scored 36 doesn't matter what league in my opinion pretty impressive

There wasnt a 1st division manager who tried hard enough to sign either player

We are expert at failed investment 🤣
