Just heard who could be our next manager... please step forward Mr Southgate. Supposed to have been approached on the quiet with a few to taking over once they have ousted Mr Blackwell. Thoughts everyone?
Source is a guy from the business side of the lane.

I think McCabe would be impressed with the way he brings the youth players through although obviously you need them there in the 1st place ! His 'transfer in' record is hardly inspiring and he's wasted plenty of money on crap over the years, but I guess that wouldn't really be an issue.

It's one of those appointments I wouldn't particularly be against but wouldn't be excited about either.

Not for me. Middlesborough fans I know are now looking at the days under Steve Mclaren as golden days which doesn't say much!!

Yeh, if we had a manager who led us to the UEFA Cup final and a league cup win I'd sure as hell regard that as a golden period compared to what's gone before.

Like Graham Taylor, people's opinions of McClaren were nearly always formed from the period when he was England manager, which means they completely disregard the good work he did prior to that (and after, given he got a team which isn't Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord into 2nd spot in Holland last year)

Beightonblade eluded to this in his own subtle manner a few weeks ago. Is Beightonblade more than just "a very naughty boy"?

Not sure about Southgate but owt's an improvement on what we have now.

I believe Coops mentioned that a couple of players were of this belief too.

I don't see what Southgate offers over Blackwell, I recon he'd be more of a Brian Robson the second, dull lifeless and would show no passion for the Blades. I dont think he'd have any extra pull with players and everyone would be calling for his head after a few months unless we won every game anyway. Then we'd realise that Blackwell wasn't actually that bad and that he'd have been hounded out because of a massive injury crisis and a bit of bad luck.

No,please say this is a joke, please....Southgate has no passion and is dull as ditchwater. Never rated him as a player either :(

Your points are both irrelevant really aren't they? Not that I want Southgate; bring on Coppell - he may be dull but his football isn't. Surely that's what matters?

As a player... I would consider Southgate a true England legend. Very good defender, unfortunate that people remember him for "that" penalty but a quality leader none the less.

Manager on the other hand... No thanks. Took a good squad left by McClaren into the Championship, not immediately mind you but i'm afraid anybody that spends £12m on Afonso Alves clearly isn't a good manager.

No not really, I was just venting some steam :p

Fully in agreement with you about Coppell though, as I mentioned in another thread, the board should go and get him before someone else gets wise to the fact that they could be going places ;)
