Me too, Silent!

What made it even more of a pisser was that I'd booked to go to the World Cup in (West) Germany. Went anyway and had a fantastic time.

My dad and I were sat near to where Domarski made the shot for the goal. His leaping celebrations was a little towards my right. Had England qualified for WC 74 TC wouldnt be in the squad cos he had an injury near the end of the 1973-74 season that took a few months to recover and didnt make himself available for the 1974 Home Internationals and the friendlies against Argentina (home) and at East Germany, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia (Joe Mercer was the caretaker manager)

There's more chance of me winning the London marathon than Schmeichel, Blackwell or Barker getting the job.

To be fair did anyone predict weir, god knows what the board have lined up to tell us we're a huge club, big history, don't deserve to be be where we are, will bring the youth players through, solid set of talented players etc etc

Fuck it, I might apply myself!

I've got a little inkling that Sven will get it, I've had a little birdy tell me so how true it is who knows but the source is apparently a good one! I've had a £10 in him an he's been backed in from 50's down to 30's and expect it to drop more! I'm not saying it will be him but.....

When Coleman made his claim about possibly not staying on at Wales, I thought, Could it be???

Football, making rational people idiots!

Not surprised about Sven as posted last week, he's 'friendly' with the Prince's family apparently and would be a 'name' the Prince would probably prefer. Not convinced one bit he's the man to guide the club where they want to go and at the end of the day he's after one thing (well maybe two ;)), bearing in mind his last two jobs in this country were Notts C and Leicester, both following investment.

Do bookmakers odds actually tell us anything? If i go and put a shed load on Manager A, his odds drop because of my actions, not because of any inside knowledge. The bookies have about as much inside knowledge as Paul Walker and his crew, which at the moment seems to be sweet fanny adams.

According to BBC Sports news on telly this morning Clough has "refused" to apply for ANY managerial posts until his wrangle with Derby County is sorted out.

I'm convinced Clough was never really an option, (thank goodness) and that it was just a case of journos putting 2 and 2 together

Could it be that the 48 hour appointment that our management team had in mind has now evaporated with Clough's statement? I think his motive is either that he is playing hard to get and is trying to screw as much money out of the Prince as he can or he thinks United are beneath him. Either way we should now stop feeding his ego, his track record, impressive though it is in some ways, doesn't merit that level of investment.

What is vitally important is that we keep a clear head and do not act in haste, ending up with another Adams scenario. Morgs as caretaker with Warnock looking over his shoulder for a while would be infinitely preferable to that in my view.

Oh dear you do realize that if Sven comes in he will have to bring his favoured talisman and strike supremo in Darius Vassell.

A huge improvement on what we have...and don't forget Paul Konchesky will follow at some point too.

People will be sat in the stands - one with a tea towel on their head and their mate alongside with a Sven wig

965 games managerial experience with a 52% win record and averaging 1.81 points per game (83 per season).
17 major trophies (not just promotions and play-offs, actual shiny things for winning leagues and cups).

There are several reasons why Sven might not be the best appointment for us at this time but anybody thinking that he isn't good enough for us are seriously deluding themselves.

Comparisons with Robson and Weir are well wide of the mark as he's succesfully managed big clubs and small, with and without vast sums of money to spend.

Those accusing him of money grabbing might be interested in the this little snippet "On 11 February 2010, Eriksson resigned as Director of Football following the club's takeover. Eriksson waived a multi-million payoff in order to assist the takeover therefore chairman Trew described him as an 'absolute gentleman'"

Sven would certainly be a "game-changing" appointment. It would truly signal the start of a major, serious project and we would be able to attract players who would otherwise not be interested. If there is a chance he would come to us, it's a prospect that shouldn't simply be dismissed out of hand.

Sven is a great manager, I've always been a fan and was sad to see him leave the England post despite his critics.

I honestly don't expect to see him takeover at the lane, just can't see it but it would be great to see that level of ambition.

Interesting read that Sothall mate!

The thing that puts me off with Sven more than anything is his lack of lower league experience. In my own personal opinion I think it is much easier to be a manager at a top league club. With money at your disposal you can go out and buy any player you want and these players are the ones who go and win you games.

Without the class act players that Sven has been fortunate enough to have had at his disposal would he have been half as successful?

Different kettle of fish this one mate. He won't have his match winners that he has had in the past, he will have League One players. Would he be able to get the same out of this bunch of players?
