on the TV commentary before the game

I thought that what they actually said was that Heckingbottom had told the players that the new manager will be watching the game. I interpreted that as meaning that whoever ultimately gets the job would be watching the game on the TV, so perform to your best, rather than that the manager had already been chosen and was at the game.

I suppose we will never know if truth be known.

I would expect someone has been lined up and the decision made with both parties happy to wait until end of season.

I also expect CW to know where he is off too especially as the backroom staff have left the club also.

Tapping up officially/unofficially simply has to go on - there's too much (probably money) at stake for it not to.

Still think we'll all be surprised as to who it ends up being.

I now fully expect Eddie Howe to end up at Celtic rather than, as some have speculated, Chris Wilder.

Hammond was offered a full time permanent contract by Adkins when he signed on loan for when the loan ended. He signed it and was paid off when Wilder came in. We did ask him about this but didn't press him as the reason he signed it was a) anyone would and b) he was going through some personal stuff at the time and didn't want that airing in the public domain, suffice to say he was worried about his financial future. As it turned out this was with good reason as he hasn't ever found another club.
I watched it mate and my personal opinion is I thought he shouldn't have signed the deal on principle. I doubt he was short of cash from his career either, but I appreciate it's a short career. I don't dislike Hammond and he seems a decent guy; you're also right that anyone would sign it, but it still doesn't sit well with me.

John Terry is going somewhere (IMHO). he apparently turned down Bristol City, but he'll be off somewhere.

I for one are not ruling out John Terry.

If it's us then I will be livid. On many fronts. Why clubs offer the manager's jobs at a high level to total novice managers is beyond me. Should start much lower down like what Teddy Sheringham did for example.

Better not be Terry. Blokes a nob and wouldn't get any grace period from the fans imo.

If god forbid, Derby get relegated at the expense of the pigs, Rooney will never manage again. He may not anyhow, it's been a disaster. How he got the gig in the first place baffles me. In fairness Lampard did ok at Derby but that's an exception to the general rule. Why clubs take such gambles is crazy, as you say.

100% and the grace period is important. Not being negative but the first few months will be transitional and we have to be patient. But will we be patient? Some managers will be cut more slack than others for sure.

Hecky next manager?

"When asked about the wanting the role, he told The Pink Un: “100%, why wouldn’t you?

“A fantastic club, it’s just come down from the Premier League, a club with a great bunch of players and an ambition to get back.

“Those jobs don’t come around very often.

“There will be people queuing up, people knocking the door down, constantly ringing and constantly trying to get in front of the right people to present themselves and to be the man to bring Sheffield United back."

I know there'll be some on here that take the view that should the owner give the job to Hecky, it will have been the cheap option. Well, at the moment, I'm in that camp.

Not sure what it takes for me to change that view? Perhaps 15 league wins on the bounce would be a start

I don't disagree with your comments - but there is something about big ex players - even we did it years back with Martin Peters of the 66 lot and Preston tried Bobby Charlton.

Recently we have Frank Lampard and next is probably John Terry.

We don't have long to wait

Quite possibly 5 weeks to wait still sadly! The League One play off final is on 30th May, if it is to be Appleton as an example it'll be the week after that at the earliest.

This thread didn’t age well did it? One can’t get a work permit and the other our intrepid local journo thinks we’re not bothered about 🤷‍♂️

Where's the Heckingbottom V's Tindall thread, which would be far more realistic!!??

The bookies don't usually get it wrong and we just went with the top 2.
Looks like they have on this occasion.
I'll do some digging and if I find out anything I'll share it on the Spurs watchalong.

Don’t ask Nixon or Biggs, you’ll be doing a Warnock v Adkins special if you do.

I’d like to see Clough v Adkins in the style of the Austin Mitchell Yorkshire TV interview with Clough Snr and Revie. With Adkins going “yes, but I wanted to fail more spectacularly than you” and Clough saying “my boys wouldn’t play for you would they”.

Strong rumours linking with Jokanovic with the Sheffield United top job, the short video in the opening thread tells you everything you need to know about the man as a head coach.

Anyone else guessing that Jokanovic will be announced this week? Makes sense now the season is over and before the Euros begin.

Oh, and a man walked on the moon too, I've heard........
