I don't want to jump the gun and ruin some of your weekends claiming Madine is now nailed on but I didn't want to start a new Madine thread even more.
Instead I thought I'd ask what our options would be if we do sign "him".

As a "plan B" I'm quite enjoying McGoldrick dropping deeper and playing more of a number 10 role but with the addition of Dowell I'm assuming when Duffy tires McG might not get that opportunity as much any more.

What would our starting pairings be?
Who complements Sharp the most?
Do we still keep Washington as a Plan C?
Will a £6m striker from the Premiership be happy purely being a Plan B?
Are we still lacking pace? Or does a hold up man help with fast breaks anyway?
What choice do we reckon Madine was? Can we really be on out 4th or 5th choice this earky into the window?

Try and keep it positive. There's 5 Madine threads to call him a twat on.

For me I'd keep it Sharp and Mcgoldrick.

Bring Clarke on if McG is having a bad day.

Put Washington on if we are being penned in and need an outlet (late in the West Brom game)
and personally I'd only see Madine coming on if the ball isn't sticking up top or if are playing a team better with possesion than us and we need to rely heavily on at pieces.

Madine would give us the option of playing a 3-4-3 (or 3-4-2-1) with two from Duffy/McGoldrick/Dowell playing behind and perhaps slightly wider than the central striker. Don't think anyone we've got at the moment can play that role.

I don't believe he's our 4th choice, I don't think he's been pushed on us and I don't think he's all we can afford.
I honestly believe Wilder has seen something that we are lacking and believes GM has it.... I don't see it myself, but I think it's a Chris Wilder signing in the very least.

Good idea starting a “Not a Madine” thread to stir interest though.......
Haha I'm not. You think I've got nobody else to talk to on a Friday night? I just wanted to know if anyone saw a positive other than we should support anyone who pulls on the shirt.

I’m interested how were are going to be playing. Dowell and madine are certainly different options to have.

Dowell is quicker and more dynamic than Duffy but probably not as technically proficient and adept at controlling the ball. And madine as a handful for opposition and a real Arial threat we don’t currently have.

Sharp and mcgoldrick have got a very decent understanding along with Duffy so it will be interesting to see if wilder breaks that up straight away... I think if Duffy isn’t playing mxgoldrixk has to play to ensure we retain possession

Think he averages 6 or 7 goals per season...don’t know what his assists are...

Looking at Dowells highlights he gets in the box a lot more than Duffy.
As for Madine being an aerial threat, don't forget that goes for in open play too. 90% of our final balls from the wings seem to be cut backs- which need to be precise. Maybe Baldocks end product might improve if he now knows he can whip or float balls anywhere in the box for a striker to go and attack.

Washington is useless. I think there lies the simple answer as to why we have signed Madine.

We only have one striker at the club currently that can play the big physical attacker role and that’s Clarke. He has no competition in that respect. That’s why Wilder is looking for an alternative option.

Look I’m I’m certain the cunt is Wilder choice and if he wants him , that’s fine by me .
But every manager makes mistakes, this could be his biggest but I’m sure he’ll realise it if it happens to be and make amends.

I think he will go, I think we have another striker up our sleeve. The 3rd loan that might happen later in the window that Wilder mentioned a few week back.

And Madine will always be. Cunt but for now he’s our cunt , but after he’s left he’ll still be just a cunt

I think Washington’s looked fairly handy recently, shown flashes of what he’s about; pace, graft, direct running. He was our man of the match away at Brentford and helped us to the 3 points. I think there’s definitely a role for him to play for us for the remainder of the season, if he stays (read somewhere on here that he might be homesick).

I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt for the reasons you mention but was turned off permanently when last week he didn't even see Leon let alone pass to him when he ran into space in front of goal and stayed there for what seemed an age. It was JCR-esque in the art of never lifting your head up.

There's more chance of Madine coming on agaisnt QPR than there is Washington and Clarke after last week's display.
With Mcgoldrick playing deeper at times now I wouldn't be suprised if it's Sharp and Madine to start up earlier than we first thought.

I agree, but, I think Duffy might be better starting and bring Mcgoldrick on after 60minutes.

Duffy is my favourite player since Michael Brown, he's a little magician but I think McG as a number 10 or just behind a front two has been a revelation. His passes arent as clinical as Duffys but how tricky and direct he can be is perfect for his new role.
I would 100% start with Duffy still but on first impressions I'd put Mcgoldrick way above Dowell as his understudy.

He's a better manager than me.

Madine and Sharp upfront
Duffy, Dowell and McGoldrick sharing the role just behind them
Any two of Fleck, Norwood and Coutts playing the more traditional midfield role
Basham, Stevens and Baldock tearing forward
Goalie wag

My take is:

Hendo.

Bash, Egan, JOC

Baldock
Stevens
Norwood
Fleck
Duffy/Mcgoldrick

Sharp
Madine

Bench:
Duffy/Mcgoldrick
Cranie
Dowell
Washington
Clarke/Coutts
Moore

This is me thinking Clarke isn't properly fit yet, Dowell was MOTM(if thats possible) v Barnet, Cranie just signed a new deal, and Washington has to be there if Clarke isn't.

Same team as over Christmas and the new year with Madine replacing either Washington or Clarke on the bench and Dowell for Lundstram or Starvin Marvin.

I don't know whether Dowell will have come to be on the bench you know.

If he’s good enough then he might get a game. He needs to be used as the relief for other players until he proves otherwise. I certainly wouldn’t be dropping Fleck, Norwood or Duffy based on the last 3 games. It’s good to have someone breathing down their necks if they have a bad game though.
