A new pub will be opening at Sheffield Station on the 5th December called the Sheffield Tap. It will opening on platform 1B and will serve a very wide range of real ales, and draught continental lagers.

It will be an ideal calling point for all Blades who travel in to the matches by train.

I read a CAMRA piece about this the other day.

Always thought it was a shame that a nice station like Sheffield's didn't have a pub.

I'd forgot all about this. Heard there was opening a while back. It'll be handy for me anyway as I travel to the games by train. :)

I'll definitely give it a try, Brownie!

Who knows, especially with the fare on offer at the Lane at the moment, if it's any good, I might stay in there until my normal post-match train back to Leeds

Always thought it was a shame that a nice station like Sheffield's didn't have a pub.

It used to have a tiny cubby hole on the left on the way in, which served some form of yellow fizzy stuff, hand pulled Bass (though I think it was a fake handpump), and Newky Broon. That was all.

Can't remember for the life of me what it was called though. It made it into a very old CAMRA guide to Sheffield which I own .... somewhere.

PIVO!!!!!!!!!!! Which is Czech for beer if you didn't know ;)

Hopefully they will have some Pilsner Urquell in there

A Fine Selection of Ales - hope it's cheaper than the Devonshire!!!!

Is that the Dev Cat you're on about? I've always found it relatively cheap for the beer, not so sure on the continental ones as I don't very often have them.

Last time I was in had a pint of one of the Bradfield brewery ales at £2.20

So.... will they allow you to go to the pub without buying a ticket for the train???? There's another ticket barrier arguement!!

I've been in contact with the owners and it 'should' open this Saturday. Let's make it a Blades bar! Ideal location etc.
On a similar note, during the (extremely brief) opening credits for the Football League Show after MoTD, it shows some bird juggling a ball in front of Midland Station. There is the United logo on the station frontage. Has this been Photoshopped on or is there one there?
If not, why not? What a PR coup, especially during the 'bid' "Sheffield - Home of Sheffield United"

C'mon Birchy! Let's be 'avin you!

I believe... looking at the email address, that one of the owners or someone to do with the venture has joined up to the forum :)

If they're around, no doubt they will give us some more info.

Discount for Blades? :D

That's my Birthday when it opens :D

Must try and go in for a few.

Given the trouble over the years in the pubs surrounding the station (such as The Howard and The Penny Black) I can't imagine the old bill are going to be very happy about sets of supporters drinking in a pub on the station platform.

It's not just our lot and the other Sheffield team(s) and whoever any of us are playing on any given day that causes shit around there, there's loads of teams within a 20-30 mile radius who's away fans may change train in Sheffield station, not to mention teams from further away who's away fans will pass through.

It always seems to go off around the train station, especially if one of the Sheffield teams is playing close by (say Donny or Barnsley) and the other is at home.

Even if the police don't move supporters on, something will go off and the pub will start shutting on match days. I'd be very surprised if you (we, as Blades - although I'll probably stick to other pubs tbh) are welcome guests in the near future.

I should perhaps add; as a real ale drinker I'm very much in favour of another real ale pub, especially in the train station.

I'm not slating the pub or the idea of a pub being situated there, I'm just not sure it's an "ideal location" for a Blades pub.

Flawed, a very good point. I remember when we lived in Edale getting the last train home one Saturday night and it had around 20 of Stockport County's 'finest' on board...all p1ssed up and all p1ssed off after a heavy defeat...I was happy to get off in one piece!!

The Problem i have with it is i like a change but the Fellas i go with always want to go there, i like doing the Beer Valley. It is always a Case of " it is near the Ground so we have to go" yes it is but it get boring....

Did this pub open as scheduled, and has anyone tried it yet?

As I shall be travelling by train this saturday, am thinking of giving it a go and wondered if it's worth a visit. Or should I just stick to The Golden Lion?

Only had 10 minutes before train home on Tuesday night but had a look in. Initial impression is that it'll be worth a visit on Saturday but I suspect, like most places on or next to a station, it's likely to be an away fans place so don't see it as somewhere to spend the couple of hours pre-match, more like the start and finish points of the day.
