Why the fuck not I'm fairly sure that getting rid of Kitson, Robson, Higginbottom Creswell etc would have freed up enough money to easily pay the wages of Baxter, Cuvelier and King. I'm not at all convinced that the Prince will be investing significant funds into SUFC otherwise we should be aiming to get a manager a lot better than the likes of Nigel Clough and other bottom feeders mentioned, we are after-all Sheffield United ........................
yes SHEFFIELD U fookin NITED FC a name that should still mean something in English football

It's about expectations I believe. 6 months ago we were £30M in debt and selling anything that moved. We've now cleared the debt and are improving the squad, despite Weir's efforts to make them look like chimps.

Because of that, it's arguable that investment has / will be "game changing". But not in any way near the way many were expecting when HRH arrived. We can't be sure until we move past paper talk, but the likes of Clough and Barker suggest we are a long way away from being big spenders again.

Mind you, if Sven is a sign of more major investment, then please keep it.

We just need to be aggressive, the last 30 minutes at northampton were enjoyable as it excited us, we threatened to score , which is why we go , to enjoy us hopefully scoring goals , preferably more than the opposition, that bit will come , now weve remembered how to do it, ILL TAKE ANYONE WHOLL GO FOR IT

Here's another thing.....I never remember anyone saying that huge sums of money were going to be thrown about immediately. What they've pretty much said won't happen, hasn't happened. Unbelievable!

Crouch?!

All better than what we had before they arrived and rather likely on a larger salary than most of our other players. Two of them top performers in our league last season. One of them (the old clapped out striker you refer to) scored in double figures for a struggling side in the championship last season. A league we would get mullered in. None of them will be coming cheap.
Ah yes Oldhams star man & a guy loaned out to the mighty Walsall add to that a has been with court cases due soon maybe ................................have we sunk so low that we struggle to better anything the likes of Oldham and Walsall (no disrespect ) can offer a player ???

What about the ethos?

The club must take their time and get the right man in.

Do some of you honestly think we would have signed Baxter, Cuvelier and King without new investment? I don't.

Honestly? I don't know and neither do you. If a player from Oldham, a loanee and a free (I know, wages) are the extent of our capabilities with money then I am shuddering in my boots.

You don't see the "game changing" signals in those incomings then?

I think we've possibly gone from a Hula Hoop to a Space Hopper, god knows when we'll end up with our first PS1.

Hopscotch?

Fact still remains that these players were top performers for their previous clubs, far better than anything we had in the squad the day before they arrived. What matters? The quality of the player or what he costs?

I think it's a fairly safe bet that at least two of those players aren't coming cheap.

It's officially "sacking season" according to the red tops. I wonder if we should persevere with Morgan for a couple more weeks and see who else becomes available.

And if, perchance, he were to win a game, the Muckanettles bandwagon would gather speed. We'd have hoofers posting in no time: "Give it to Morgs; he's got passion; he's a Bladey Blade" and all the familiar claptrap. I guarantee it.

Well you say that, King was a free agent, Cuvelier a kid on loan and Baxter from Oldham, so tallest dwarf really. However, agree with what they cost not being the issue. But it was a topic of conversation because apparently Prince (or symbol if you prefer) has financed these pearls.

Don't forget the Gerritintboxentroopen.

The Baxter signing was surely signed using whatever money we got from Macca's sale to Wolves.

Cuvelier is a permanent signing.

The fist thing we need is an experianced manager. Putting a rookie such as Weir in charge of a club like ours is like passing your driving test and jumping straight into a Ferrari, your bound to crash it into the nearest lamp post and hey presto that's what's happend.

If it was up to me I'd appoint Clough a experianced manager who has served his time at Burton and also did a good job with Derby. If for whatever reason we can't get Clough I'd then appoint Saunders.

I really feel united is on the cusp of a new era. With the investment and some of our youth talent we could really have some special times ahead.

Saunders is a disaster - no thanks. If we are only fishing at this level I'd say Slade or Cox or Clough.

Slade would on balance be silly to leave Orient, bird in the hand and all that. For Cox we'd certainly be a step up. As for Clough I think if he wanted it I think it would have been made a tad more obvious by now.

Other than that the only experienced manager available is Pulis and the Board appear not to want to sacrifice style (albeit a losing one) for substance.

In short unless an interesting rabbit appears it looks like things might get an awful lot worse.:(

NOT SAUNDERS! Had a lot of respect for him as a player - loved him at the Lane, but he's an awful manager and we would undoubtedly make up his hatrick of relegations

Not an awful manager just not a great one. Had Wrexham and Donny top of their respective leagues whilst in charge but got relegated from the Championship with two different sides. I think he could be a good manager in future if he learns from his experiences.

To be honest I'd take anyone that can string enough wins together to keep us in L1 at the moment...I don't think Saunders is that man - I'd be more inclined to look at him were we at the other end of the table - but then none of this would be necessary would it...

This. And if the person who can do that is not the same person we see having a tilt for promotion next year, give them a contract to the end of the season only.

Priority 1 - dont get relegated
Priority 2 - get promoted next year

No point looking at Number 2, if you don`t manage number 1.

A scenario.

Clough is the man, but problems with paying compo to his management team has held it up.

In steps Phipps a deal is done with SUFC for Derby to pay SUFC in dribs and drabs and SUFC pay Clough up front the compo agreed with Derby. Is this the hold up? SUFC have the risk but if the amount of compo is agreed then a watertight contract with Derby can be agreed and Clough employed.
