New kit

You sometimes accidentally get a terrific kit - the Avec one with the stripes in 1997 being a good example. Mind you, it did of course succeed out worst ever home kit.
My favourite ever shirt that. Shame I was only a kid when it was out so it doesn't fit me any more. I would absolutely love it if I could get one in my size now.

Got this reply from Emma Wylie earlier;

Looks like we're stuck with that god awful white panel.

Interesting comments from Ms Wylie. I bet if our sponsors didn't like the way the sponsor looked the club wouldnt be so dismissive of comments.... just like the recall they did in the 1st year with visitmalta.com when they complained.

Perhaps if the club had got their backsides into gear and got a design out to the fans much earlier they wouldn't have already had it in production.

Because of this, i'm out. I won't be investing in the new shirt. I will be sending my comments to the club too

>But then no-one would buy the next design - it just couldn't compete
ohhh.. i get it now john, a brilliant assessment :-) <presses thanks button>

The sponsors are a single company and it's their logo they've paid good money to display so so it's pretty fair that they have input if they're unhappy with it. On the other hand if a single supporter offers feedback why should the club feel obligated to change it? Supporters who like the shirt are hardly likely to write in to express satisfaction.

I'm with you on the fan input before the shirt is designed though, I prefer it when the club offer up 2-4 potential designs and let the fans choose.

I still wear that shirt occasionally - it's one of my favourites too.

Last week I was going through a box of old stuff my mother had stored for me years ago and was delighted to discover it contained my first ever Blades shirt, the old umbro one, pre sponsors name, that we wore in 1983-4 to 1986-7 (imagine that now!) and which I must have got in 1986. It doesn't fit me but it will fit my son in a few years. It says a lot for its good quality - and the poor quality of some of our recent shirts - that I wore it constantly at the time and it is in great condition, whereas, for example, the home and away shirts from the PL season, which have had much less wear and tear, have lost or are losing the sponsors names and are coming apart at the seams...

Yeah I'm with you there, hence the reason why i've also sent an email to the club expressing my dislike of the white panel.

I like the shirt, I just think the photo shopped shirts with more red stripes look much better

I guess it confirms what we all knew anyway, that the commercial element is way more important than the supporters.

I bet visitmalta.com would have seen the preview of the shirt before us fans

Yep, I prefer that photo-shopped version aswell. Looking at the shirt though it kind of seemed like the white band, which is obviously waaay to big for the Visit Malta logo, looks like it may have been designed like that to incorporate another sponsors logo? Just a theory but it just looks like it was designed for another sponsor.

Oohhh I love the theory :) You could well be right....

Shall we start a rumour as to who it was?

"Len's Half Empty Glass Emporium"
"Monty's Industrial Tackle"

Or for a laugh... Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield Council, thats a good one, it could work....

I was thinking more along the lines of Forgemasters pulling the plug because of the Tories cutbacks, if we were really lucky we could get someone linking this to a whole conspiracy about Maggie Thatcher hating the Blades, but you could get the same link with the council I guess...

Maybe it was to put zippy's head in it?

Found a ruck-sack full of my old Blades shirts the other day, (the bag was "Troop" which should tell you the era!) and in there was my first ever Blades shirt from 82 which was the Hobbot one without the stripes, also had the yellow and brown away shirt from the same season, an all time classic.

any of you photoshoppers out there fancy having a crack at making the away kit? well, what its supposed to look like? (black with red pinstripes)

There have been a few of the original yellow and brown away kit on Ebay occasionally. I know of one bought for quite a lot of money, so look after it.
Or cash in........

that could have been the one which I sold :)

If you sold it for well over a hundred quid in February 2008 to a buyer on Woodseats Road it might well be. It wasn't me that bought it by the way. Mrs SV would chop my bollocks off if I paid that for a football shirt.

I considered sending Emma a reply saying something along the lines of;

"Thank you for reply but I'm sorry to say that the shirt looks like a factory reject, it looks unfinished, its as though someone just forgot finish drawing the stripes. As it does look like they forgot to finish it, does that mean it will be on sale for less than the usual £40?"

Fits age 9-10......................!
The chap I know who got the expensive one from his wife as a present is at least six sizes too big for the shirt that he now owns. It's not as if it's framed, or even on display. Even a sprog's shirt would fetch decent money on the Bay of E.

This is a better picture of the new home strip.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, i love it!

New away kit looks good too.

Good effort on the designs, lets hope the quality has im-proved.

The white panel on the front is too big. The white bits on the side don't look too great either tbh. It is still fairly nice but it would be better if the sponsor panel wasn't so big and it was red & white stripes alll the way round the shirt

I see from the O/S that the new away kit is available for 'pre-order'.

Where did that daft term come from? An order is and order is an order....
All orders are placed before the event. You could never have a 'post-order'.

Or is it just me?

Really don't like it i wanted yellow or something that stands out. It looks like a training top.

like the red shorts and socks. The direct shop calls it a change kit not away kit. That suggests to me that we won't wear it often.

Well I don't think I'll be buying it so I'm not bothered how often they wear it. I was hopeful when I heard it would be similar to Evertons black and pink away shirt last season (but with red striped), I'm quite disappointed now I've seen it.
