George doesn't hold back:
I'd agree with much of that. That tackle and much else in that game certainly showed us in the worst light possible - however I still feel aggrieved that Megson pretty much engineered the situation. An interesting interview, but it's sad for me that he came across as almost proud for the foul he put in on Johnson. To still think it was a fair challenge and to have no regrets is embarrasing beyond words. Michael Brown spoke about this recently and said it was a horror tackle. He was on the pitch for 1 minute and did that.
George Santos and Patrick Suffo brought the game into disrepute against WBA, both were a disgrace. Not condoning the elbow that Johnson put in, though Chris Morgan did as bad against the poor Barnsley lad and there's barely a mention of that now. Well done to Warnock for never playing them again.
I've seen the elbow Johnson did and it's bad (you can find it on youtube btw), but presumably if Hume tackled Morgan the same way Santos did, would the blades fans be fine with that as well?
What Santos did was as bad as the Keane tackle on Haaland for me (even though he says it wasn't), it was very nearly career ending and we shouldn't be celebrating violence like this. Really dark day for blades that we should be nothing but ashamed of.
Life is too short to hold on to grudges.
I hear you mate. Megson was out of order for saying we were trying to get the game replayed.I'd agree with much of that. That tackle and much else in that game certainly showed us in the worst light possible - however I still feel aggrieved that Megson pretty much engineered the situation.
Warnock agreed prior to the game not to play Santos, but Megson wouldn't do likewise with Johnson. Then all that went put of the window with Tracey's straight red.
If Megson had any common sense or decency, the Battle of Bramall Lane would never have happened.
Is it realistic to think they could never have played against each other ever again? That every club they were at should rest them both every single time they played each other? Not going to disagree other than to say if Johnson wasn't on the pitch either there'd have been nothing to pre-meditate. And that's down to Megson.
He was sacked. He was fired after an emergency board meeting 45 mins after the game ended. He talked his way back into the job over the next 24 hours.Warnock was very lucky to have not been sacked. That game was a turning point in many ways and led to the triple assault season, where of course we won fuck all.
