New book

[Longtime Blade]

Way back last February we were invited to place orders for an updated version of the

Clarebrough/Kirkham book on United. It was also said that publication would occur on a day in

August. We're now well into October but I've heard and seen nothing since the original announcement.

What's going on?

I contacted DB Publishing last month to ask when the book would be out, was told it had been delayed and would be out in October. I e-mailed them again last week but havnt got a reply as yet. They didnt delay taking my money though, £25 paid on 25th May . . . .

How many days left? Apparently, yesterday was THE big day for publishing new books in time for Christmas, with over 200 new hardbacks being launched.

Anyone's letter mention anything about either of these things:

First 200 customers to pre-order will receive a special copy signed by Tony Currie and 2 other legends
First 300 customers to pre-order will be invited to an exclusive signing event at the club. (Date to be confirmed much nearer publication)

Think mine (not got it with me now) said something about it being signed but nothing about the 'exclusive signing event'.

THE ONE THOUSANDTH

I went down to buy my copy at mid-day. It cost £25, with no discount for the STH. It's quite weighty and impressive

in appearance. I had noticed in the 1999 book that a total of 746 players had turned out for the first team up to that

time and so I thought that it must be approaching 1000 by the end of last season. It looks as though that number is

about to be passed: 957 have appeared in League games, 2 additional in FA and League Cup games, 23 additional in

FA Cup games and 11 additional in League Cup games. (Another 165 have appeared in other competitions e.g. County

Cup, but I'm not including them or new players in abandoned games.). That adds up to 993 so that the 1000 figure

should be met, if not already done, imminently. Who is or will be the thousandth?

I seem to recall that there was to be a presentation/gathering at the lane for the first 100 purchase requests.
As I am in the first column can I ask if any one knows what happened to that.

In the first 100 applications which I believe was to trigger the collection evening.

Here we go people:

A launch evening had been planned to coincide with the original scheduled delivery inviting a selection of former players down to be around, have a chat and sign a few copies - when the dates changed it meant that several of them, due to other commitments, were unavailable. The book is, of course, now in stock and an evening and date will be confirmed shortly. This will take place towards the end of November, with plenty of time to get copies signed up in time for Christmas presents etc.

The details/date will be passed on to us as soon as possible and confirmed on the official site.
