Imagine my shock.

Footballing ability ≠ managerial ability. Look at Lampard and Gerrard: both superb players and both poor managers.

The main thing which differentiates good from bad managers is generally intelligence and adaptability. I don't know how Montgomery and Collins fare on either measure.
