Naughton off to Boro

This would be a blow for me, i really hoped he would come back here and we could restore Naughton and Walker as our full back pairing (toss a coin to see who gets stuck on the left :))

I would be interested to know if we were in for him and if so why Middlesborough are ahead of us in the queue.

EDIT - I see we have signed Nosworthy which may explain our absence from the rumours surrounding Naughton; i know which player i would prefer if it were a choice between the two.

Confirmed.

....What the hell? If it was a prem team i could understand it, if it was a London team i could understand it. If it was a top Champ side, ie a Newcastle or West Brom....i could understand it.

Instead he goes to a crap mid table club where he's dropped in at the deep end. Him coming back to us makes sense for all the right reasons. Did we not try, are Spurs being twats as usual?

Gutted.

To be fair we desperately needed an experienced CB which don't seem to be in abundance of late.

Maybe 'Arry thinks he'll get a better 'education' there. I suspect Kyle II returning was a provisio of the original deal but once the deals have gone through I guess they can move the goalposts around as much as they like.

Re Boro, I seem to remember when Strachan took over and that 'player wanted list' was leaked to the press that Kyle's name was on it.

Why do people keep saying this? Naughton and Walker were only full backs for a handful of games (i can only remember 3). naysmith was left back for the whole season and only when he got injured did we put in Naughton, as a last resort. Not only this but Naughton (allegedly) threw a tantrum about playing on the left.

They are both very good right backs. however, they are not left backs. I'd much sooner us bring in na proven left back, or more to it and good, quick centre back than bring Naughton back.

Some of our best performances (e.g. The Preston play-off matches) came with Walker on the right and Naughton on the left. Two pacy, skilful, athetic, attacking full backs. They were also about the only two players who left Wembley with any credit.

Your plan would be fine if we had a "proven left back" better than Naughton lined up and ready to come here but we clearly haven't. We've already signed two players for the position this season and neither has looked a patch on Naughton.

What about him gettng upset and saying he'd never play for Blackwell again?? Taken that inot consideration Southall?? Naughton did not like playing left back and although he looked good would not have been happy there.

And I said, I'd sooner us bring in a proven left back. We have one in Gary Naysmith, but he may not play a significant role for us again.

Some people have said that, others have said he would jump at the chance. I've no inside info, so no idea who to believe. As I said on the other thread about Naughton, I'm unhappy with United missing the chance to re-sign him, whatever the reason.

Confirmed.

poster on Bladesmad says its' due to finance.

Boro have paid 60% of his wage, we could only pay 30%

Whether that's right or not, I don't know

I think he wanted to return to us, but circumstances dictate.

Sounds about right. So basically, we can have 1st dibs on their players providing we pay a substantial amount of their high Premiership wages, that's going to happen then.

However, let's presume he's on £15K a week so Boro are paying £9K, Spurs the remaining £6K. If we were willing to pay £4.5K, if he wants to come back, why can't Kyle take £10.5K for 4 months ?

After all those posts daying Naughton was definitely on hi way back and Walker was definitely returning to Spurs, neither have transpired :D

I love how people report rumours as set in stone facts.

Maybe KB knows that Naughton is in fact neither a left back or a centre back which is the two positions that i know and you know we need! So signing a Centre Back & erm....... a Left Back is better than signing a Centre back and a right back to play at left back!

Why not sign Beattie back and put him at left back?

I'm sorry but sentiment means sweet f.a

IMHO KB has made the right decision here (if it was actually his to make) by signing a good proven centre back and a quality left back. Can't fault KB for this.

Couldn't give a stuff that Naughton hasn't re signed. Walker is as good at righ back. Kalio is a quality left back and although he doesn't have the spped and attacking nousse of Naughton he is a very good defender, cool and calm and left footed!

To be fair Olle, Walker only played a handful of games last season and in most of those him and Walker (if memory serves) were the chosen full-backs. Even if that is not the case, the performance of both players in the play-off final is still fresh in my memory and therefore i was keen to see that combination back on the SUFC team sheet.

He may not be a specialist left back but he has shown he is better then what we have (in every single position bar centre forward in my opinion), he knows the club and fans and is a local lad who would settle in no time.

All speculation with regards to a bust up with KB matters not to me, because in my expereince these kind of rumours are almost always not true.

You are simply wrong! How many times do I have to say it? Naughton only played left back when Naysmith was injured. Yes he had a great game in the play off final. But he is not a left back. He is not left footed.

I can't be arsed to argue. It's simply your opinion verses mine.

I personally don't think that it is a great loss not to have signed Naughton back (in light of signing Kalio and whatever his name is).

How do you feel Naughton performed at LB during Naysmiths absence out of interest?

In those 3 games? He did well.

Have you seen Kalio play this year?

so youre glad hes gone to boro then? people can only go by what theyre told!

Spurs also letting go of Hutton apparently... They'll be going from shit loads of right backs, to none at this rate...

They could of course recall Walker :)
