Scored a decent goal yesterday. He ran pretty much from the half way line with ball to score.

Good for him to get some game time but it limits our options. Not that I think we'd ever play wingers.
Think this will be why he might leave in the summer. Could be part of a deal for Jon Nolan, if there's any mileage in that rumour?

Good point, that could give us an advantage over other teams looking to sign him.

The early tension when he signed may have something to do with Wilder wanting him to change position and him resisting it. There's clearly a reason he's never really featured.

I wonder if CW was hoping to convert him into a LB (similar to what's happened with Ashley Young)? We could try using him as a 2nd striker playing off someone - he's obviously got a goal or two in him. But realistically he'll probably be sold at the end of the season.

Was that to the number 10 role or as a wing back mate? Personally, I think he has a future at the number 10 role but we're strong in that position too.

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't Wilder trying him as a LWB earlier in the season/pre-season?

To me, he offers something different, mainly incredible pace and a willingness to shoot outside the box, on top of that, he has the most powerful shot I have seen in recent years. A real shame that we cannot find a place for him, but that's football I guess.

Aye I seem to recall that Thomas has played there, possibly in the league cup too.

Since there seems to be some personality issue with Thomas, it's a shame we can't offload him permanently. At least he's off the books for next season and in the window.

Hope the other 6 listed aren't loans. We really need to offload the deadwood.

Carruthers
Heneghan
Wright
Evans
Clarke
Holmes

Why would we sell a player for less than we paid for him when he has only been with us since the beginning of the season. Shrewsbury need to double their bid before we even consider this offer.
Let’s tell them we consider their offer to be “derisory”. I don’t know what that means but it usually works.

Part of the issue, at least with some who are transfer listed, are that they had generous salary increases in their contracts for promotion. I can't see Samir Carruthers being in a rush to swap his £18k per week contract for probably a third of that in League 1.

I'm sure they would be sold if they could but very few clubs have money to spend on transfer fees in L1 and L2.

Better for them to go on loan to get game time and for part/all of their salaries to be covered than languish in Utd's U23s.

Samir Carruthers. What an odd sort of footballer he is! Moments of pure skill and genius, tempered with completely irrational passages of play. We knew not what he was going to do next. Worse still, neither did he! An enigma. A footballing chimera.

I'm slipping into past tense. It's so long since I heard about him I thought he'd already gone. I think with him, and with Nathan Thomas (a player who I quite liked actually because of his willingness to run at defences and take a pop at goal), the problem is thus:

The club has advanced too quickly for them and they've been left behind.

I think both are potentially good players, but not for where we are now unfortunately.

I hope they can find their level and get a new club soon, because there is no future for them here.

It would be preferable but I don’t think it’s a necessity. Their combined wages will be a couple of million a year. That would have been significant if we were still in the championship, earning around £20m a season but much less of a problem now we’re earning £120m this season.

I think we’ll be able to shift Evans and Heneghan as they’ve done well on loan in L1.

The rest will probably end up on loan with us subsidising some of their wages.

Carruthers £18k a week? Pull the other one.

I'd imagine we have people who will be on our bench in the PL, with their promotion bonuses that aren't on that.

No idea what he's actually earning, but it could be not far off:

I've been told that a lot of our first team contacts were/are heavily incentivised, and included wage increases based on performance.

If we got Carruthers on say £8kpw, with a 50% bonus if we were promoted, a 25% for staying up, then another 50% for our further promotion, that would take him to £22.5kpw.

Those numbere are entirely hypothetical, and only there to demonstrate that some of our players, including the ones who don't play, may have benefited from our promotions financially.

OFFICIAL: Steve Evans confirms to Gillingham’s official website that Nathan Thomas has ended his loan spell, returned to Sheffield United and “possibly” returning to Carlisle United. #cufc
