Nathan has been told by his boss at Yorkshire live to stop posting click bait with no bait. In the absence of any real bait, Nathan has been told to do what other sources do, and “make shit up”.

Not sure him and his mate Shield even attend matches, his player ratings are testament to that

Bit harsh and random to throw pelters at Hemmingbird while this Hecky and Wilder shitshow is going on!

He’s the clubs tame journo. No problem with that, seems like a nice bloke. Just take everything he says as having been signed off by the club

Star journo, singular. Hall's the last man standing there now - Shield was made redundant in the summer.

It's amazing how few people have noticed.
I did laugh at the comment, but it is shit how local journalism is being killed by social media, and shit ownership, and I feel for them on a personal level.
You just hope there is still a gap for a serious paper/product that delivers proper insight, education and investigational journalism.
Unfortunately i don't think people are prepared to pay for it, and want to be fed what they like reading off a custom media feed.

Genuinely didn't know this/realise! Then again, I try and avoid anything on the Star.

Shame for Hemmingway. He was one of the good guys and it's not nice to think of someone losing their job. I hope he can find something else!

I think my comment probably came across snarkier than it was intended, you're bang on the money there.

Hemmingham in particular is a sad loss. Overnight he went from a standing start to becoming first port of call for United news to a lot of us on here ahead of guys who'd been doing it for years. Seems short sighted to bin him.

It is a sign of the times and development of tech although for me personally, I prefer to listen to a podcast by fans or read this forum. Local journalism isn't feasible anymore due to pay per click advertising, he would be better creating his own Youtube channel/podcast, getting sponsors and making money that way or even online blog with advertising. The new tech has taken out of the local journos and the only way to be at the next level up such as SUFC TV or serious reporting is to be a former player.

Perhaps the Athletic can sort themselves out, give him a job and cover us properly. The coverage is not what it was after Sutcliffe started writing about Wrexham.

The Star buried themselves and then resorted to clickbait and manipulating their website viewership stats.

Didn’t know about James Shield, but as others have said and as I’m no longer on Twitter and dont read the Star because of the subscription and ads, it lost its appeal long ago.

Nathan Hemmingway was fairly decent and got the good club info though.

I get more info from here though now - no ads, some good ITK and filter out the clown rumours as much as possible

Sad for the journos but sports journalism at the top two divisions doesn’t come from local journos it comes from nationals and big bucks tv channels

The local correspondents days have long been gone but I think you’re over looking one of the biggest reasons why and that’s fan led media. Likely the biggest platform now imo.

Feel for Shield.
This club has been his life since I can remember.

Hope he still shows his face at the Lane.
Met him the odd time and always found him to be a decent bloke.

GLTTL.

Hemmingham is the root of his own downfall. Sad to hear he is now unemployed, but he tied himself to the misleading Yorkshire live click bait headlines.

Interesting how this industry is/has evolved. You'd think journalists would have seen the writing on the wall some time ago and pivoted to more social media/interactive channels. Rather than trying to force 10kg of shit into a 5kg bag, come up with a more creative solution.

Not telling someone how to live their life, but would have thought this chap using his imagination and the overwhelming evidence of where the industry is headed and starting his own YouTube channel and using his skills and contacts would have positioned him at the front of others who have made a success of doing it literally from their bedrooms!!
