Nathan Byrne's name keeps cropping up: either we.should sign him, or he's going to tear us to pieces on Satdi.

(I get that he did look very effective against us in patches, but we gave him room to play.)

I'm not convinced by either point.

He's still at Swindon. If he was the new Messi then someone might have spotted him and spent a few bob. Apparently there is interest, but it's from Burnley not Real Madrid. Our transfer/loan priorities are in defence I think.

Satdi is more of a concern. I think our left hand side is our weakest point at the moment and that's where Byrne ran riot at times last.season.

That.said it was two way traffic: they scored five, but *we scored five as well*.

Byrne is clearly a dangerous player and needs planning for (double teaming would be one approach) but our defence and overall game has improved since we last played Swindon.

That said I do think it will be our sternest test.

Adams and K Wallace up against Byrne wouldn't fill me with optimism. Interested to.see how it plays out.

No doubt about it. he plays in patches but is there any winger that doesn't? If we're double teaming him we're leaving another one of theirs unmarked. But he's too tricky and quite frankly good to leave with just Kieran on.

He's 'still at' Swindon yeah, but then again so is Kasim, Austin is still at QPR, Berahino is still at WBA, Dack is still at Gillingham and Bradshaw is still at Walsall. I don't expect any of those players to still be at their clubs by September.

We won't concede 5, but we will concede. And I don't think we'll score as many as they will. Another trip to the county ground and another defeat if we don't reinforce if you ask me.

I think Byrne is very good at this level and I fully expect him to make a career in the championship or maybe even a lower prem team like Villa, Stoke, West Brom etc.

He has bags of pace and dribbing ability but is still relatively inexperienced.

We will also have to be careful with Obika, Smith and Robert amongst their striking options. That being said, I thought Natham Thompson looked a weak link for them defensively in the past with Murphy causing him all manner of problems. Hopefully Che will get some joy there now Murphy has departed.

Good shout. We need to start Che on the other side though for me. He'll get 2-manned just like Byrne will for us so hopefully the 'man free' will work for us like it does for them. Woolford deserves a start after his two run outs at BL, he's done well.

I think the concerns about Swindon, although understandable, are pre-Adkins. I doubt anyone can say how we'll do, and who's to say that we won't tear into them and cause them all sorts of problems? The thing is, we've a new management team who seem to approach the whole business of football in an altogether different manner to previous regimes. It doesn't entitle us to anything, but what it does do is let us know that we now have a team who are trying to play with more elan. Of course there's room for improvement, Adkins has gone on record saying he wants the team to play at a faster tempo, moving the ball quicker and seeing players move off the ball offering a greater variety of opportunities for the man in possession. But for now we have a team that seems to warm towards what the manager wants, and that has to be a positive move for both players and supporters.

If I was a manager of a team in this division or below and wanted to improve the and had a prize asset I would be looking at what cash and players I could get. For Byre you could be looking at cash and a few players, Higdon, Alcock, Cuvellier etc;

Saying that, not a chance really we would spend what was needed to get a deal done!

Alternatively, all players have their value to a club.

Given the track record of the manager and the stated and evidenced ambition of the board, realising the sale of a valuable asset - who had expressed a desire to leave - it's reasonable to conclude that the sale at worse will not weaken the position of the club, and if the revenue is well spent may in fact enhance that position.

If Man United offered Swindon £30m for Byrne should they say: No, he's our best player, and might get us promoted?

I think they should take the money. Though this may be hard to grasp if you're opposed to the sale of a club's best players.

However I would not leave out Adams either, maybe playing him upfront or on the other wing. This would however involve dropping one of Sharp or Sammon. This is a pretty good dilemma to have, but we must stop Byrne. I would also tell Sammon to man mark Yaser Kasim, to limit his influence in the middle of the park.
