Probably my only ever ITK but I know that Darikwa was on £20k/week last season and is likely to be on even more this season following promotion.

I was also told that he's deemed not good enough by Burnley and they'd certaily let him go but I'd be surprised is they or the player would accept what Utd could offer even if they were keen and even if it were a loan (for this season at least!).

I can't see Burnley paying a wingback £20k a week when Barton was only on that.

Utd wouldn't be able to afford him at present, even on the off-chance that CW wanted him.

He'll be on Champ wages and is currently on loan at another Champ club - why would he or Wolves want him to come to Utd?

I thought he signed for Wigan permanently? But if he's on the bench and they're in danger of swapping places with us, and they have a new manager who might not fancy him as much.....

Not sure why I thought he'd gone on loan but you're right - it was a perm. I'd still wager he'll be on more money than Utd could afford this season even if CW thought RWB was a priority position (with Freeman, Brown & Brayford?) and fancied Byrne as a player. All in all I think it's low probability that all the pieces will fit. Tbh - I think a few a still harking back to when Bob Harris made him look a world beater a couple of years ago and he's actually done very little since.

You might well be right re wages. I wonder if he’s on more than Brayford? Someone on facebook suggested a swap deal might be a possibility as Wigan had previously expressed an interest in Brayford during the summer?

Take your point about Harris making him look a world-beater but regardless of what Harris did, Byrne showed he had a lot of pace and trickery which is something I think our squad could still stand to gain. I think Brown will be gone in Jan meaning we have no direct competition or cover for Freeman so can see it being an area Wilder would want to address. Whether he fancies him and can afford him? Who knows…..

I'm not sure why Byrne would want to swap Wigan's bench for ours. Or why we'd want a player who can't get into Wigan's side when if things go to plan, we'll be in the same league as then next season.

I'm not sure of the circumstances there. It might be that the new manager doesn't fancy the 352 system that seems to best suit Byrne?

I'm not sure he couldn't get into our team given how well he did at this level previously. Freeman and Lafferty are playing well at the minute but I don't think either are untouchable.

I didn't realise he could play left back too. Might make him more desirable.

I don't think CW will be interested in Byrne. But I'm sure he'll be looking at the wide areas. Whether that's just cover or someone to replace either of the current wing backs is the question. It's the most difficult decision he has to make in the next transfer window. We could do with more out wide, but Freeman and Lafferty have done well. Freeman's mentality has been questionable previously when he's not been in the team, he's now involved regularly, offers plenty and seems to have a good attitude and a lot of desire. Would it be worth risking that or not? It's the sort of thing Wilder's got to consider. It also depends on what players are available in other positions.

Byrne would be a decent signing at this level but I am surprised he has not performed as well in the Championship.

Seen something on this guy on instagram. Us, Fleetwood and Charlton are having a sniff

Thought he was an out and out winger? Exciting player, but would he fit our system?

This is from the Daily Mail, who are quite well informed about United.

Byrne to leave Wigan on loan, with Charlton leading the chase
SAM MORSHEAD
: Nathan Byrne is set leave Wigan on loan in January, with Charlton leading the race for his signature.

The winger, who arrived at the DW Stadium on deadline day in August following an ill-fated stint at Wolves, has found opportunities hard to come by under manager Warren Joyce.

He is ready to make a temporary switch away from the Latics, who would prefer to do business with a club that could potentially make the deal permanent in the summer, and at least four League One sides are interested.

Charlton are the most likely suitors but both Bolton and Fleetwood are waiting in the wings.

Sheffield United have been heavily linked with the former Tottenham trainee over the past two days but Sportsmail understands Byrne is not top of the Blades’ wishlist.

The 24-year-old has made 14 appearances for Wigan this season but has not started a match since November 28.

He signed a three-year contract in the summer following his switch from Wolves, who paid Swindon £1million for his services in August 2015.

That sounds about right. On our radar but not top of our list. He's an obvious target but maybe not quite Wilder's ideal type of player/character.

I reckon Charlton would be a better fit for him. Couldn't see him starting for us. For me, Freemans got a good grip of that shirt.

If Brayford wanted to play for us he would playing now. He doesn't so sell him asap

cant see any way brayford will come back here but he is still our player on contract so its down to other clubs how much they bid for him but dont think chris will let him go cheaply for me it has to be at least 750k

You have to ask the question why he can't seem to handle the Championship. Looking for a 3rd club in 18 months but looking to drop back down to League one it would seem.
Exactly !
A proper businessman running SUFC at the moment should acquire players he believes can play in the Championship , nothing less is any good.
We already have plenty to move out if we go up ! We can't afford any more.

Bit disappointing but no real surprise. Will make the Charlton game harder. Not looking forward to that one.

He's a decent player for this league but you could argue that Charlton have got rid of a better player to Everton looking at the fee they paid, so I won't lose any sleep over Charlton signing him.

The only people who can stop us this season are ourselves and that keeps looking more unlikely to happen every passing week.

Great acquisition at this level, pacy, trickery, versatile. Winger for either flank, or a wing back, happy at playing a pressing game. Would've been ideal for a Wilder team. Bit gutted he's gone to another side in the division. We're now in a position to command loans like this.

Not bothered in the slightest. Fair play to him if he makes me eat my words with outstanding form at the biggest club in division 1!!! but personally i think he was a bit of a flash in the pan a couple of seasons back and he has struggled badly for form since and has had a couple of moves where he was nowhere near the team.

Think theres better out there and tbh think we already have better than him.

He only stood out against us in that season and the playoffs as Clough had a penchant for playing with dodgy keeper, no centre halves, and full backs like Bob Harris who couldnt tackle a naked Charlize Theron if he had been on the viagra.

"Would've been ideal for a Wilder team"
I'm happy just to leave that to Wilder;)

Think he's useful at this level ,but would have reservations about his defensive ability in the League above. He's very lightweight. Not convinced by his wing play either: his crossing ability isn't the best nor his goal record. His best attribute is his pace.
