N’Diaye

True, but I'd have been fascinated to see how we would have got on in the Prem if Ndiaye was still with us. That promotion team was built around Ndiaye's strengths and his short notice departure royally screwed us in that transfer window. Any optimism amongst the fanbase was extinguished when Ndiaye left and the new additions got nowhere close to replacing him.
Hecky was totally f'd over that summer, no manager in the world could've made that team competitive. Losing him and Berge just days before the season began, we all knew we didn't stand a chance of staying up.

Well it's a good job that Hecky had the courage to pick Ndiaye in his first match in control (Leicester away) because there may have been other managers who would have avoided such a selection.

He brought him on for ten minutes and then never played him again for the rest of the season.

And it wasn’t Hecky who gave him his full debut against Peterborough

True.

Merging into the other thread but that match against Peterborough was perhaps the best chance of us scoring a hat-trick in recent years.

Ndiaye scored two goals but then was taken off immediately after he scored the second in the 72nd minute.

It could have been a hat-trick on his full debut!

A player I will always remember fondly and will always keep an eye out for/want to do well.

Skill, talent, work ethic, pace, grounded, humble, tracking back, the lot. No interest in influencer status, no flashiness (in terms of wealth), no game playing/theatrics, no ego. A proper throwback of a footballer, simply trying to be the best player on the pitch. If you get the ball off me, it's because you've earned it, if I go down, it's because I've been genuinely fouled. Deserves to go to the very top.

Though McAtee did come back he was a shadow of the player from the previous season.

That's just the step up to the Premier League though.

It's the same reason why Ahmedhodzic and Souza were getting dog's abuse that season but then everybody loved them again last season.

Hecky didn't play him until he signed a new contract if I remember correctly...
I think he wasn't allowed to play him until Ndiaye signed a contract. Once he signed he was allowed to play and made his debut on 11th September 2021 (I remember this because I was checking my phone constantly while my wife was giving birth.. in my defence we don't score 6 goals often!).

That was back in the days when Ndiaye couldn't play much more than 70 minutes.
