always an excellent read, you’re one of my four or five ‘go-to’ sources of analysis of the games pommpey.

that being said, respectfully, i don’t know why you bother with some of the nonsense posted by ‘haters’. they’re only looking for a silly argument, and i don’t believe you do yourself any favours lowering yourself to their level.

greetings to all from free ukraine. slava blades!

Slava Ukranie to you also my courageous fellow Unitedite. We all stand United in football, principle and understanding with you.

As you have to deal with a stunted, insane despot encroaching on your sacred land, we have to tackle a similar threat on this board. And whilst we watch with glee drones dropping handmade bombs through the open hatches of Russian battlefield tanks, we similarly pick off useless chimps on here. It's unnecessary, but it can be fun.

Always look forward to the match reports from Pommpey, Deadbeat, and Roy. I'm at every match home and away and there reports in my opinion are bang on keep it up chaps👍⚔️

Agree with most of your initial post, your Magnificence.
Harsh on Berge though. I would have him at a 6. Reason being he was playing the all important defensive midfield role, against a decent side at their place, and generally did his job. Evidence clean sheet and victory. All that needs to be said, really.
Apart from that, well done. You’re getting the hang of this.
You did miss the score fir our 12th man, though. The Blades fans were awesome, sang out from start to finish, and made a right racket. So a 10 from me, for those wonderful Blades at Norwich.

Have an equally begrudging 'like' for that. I'll take the complement with a pinch of salt.

You can disagree with his ratings ie, Egan extra half point, think it’s a bit harsh on Norwood etc without a problem. When the disagreement is a bit more in depth, he will ask why you disagree. Simple as. Suggesting then he’s a bit of a whatever is what kicks things off and isn’t really an answer.

I'm used to it Sean. Almost without exception, the pretty personal digs are from people who don't talk about football at all. They squat across boards like this and shit on anyone they simply 'don't like the look or sound of', based on an inner core insecurity ... more akin to 'you don't qualify to make such a comment' because your arse doesn't warm a plastic seat on the JSS for an hour and a half most weeks. Mind you, I do have a decent collection of United shirts and a Blades mug on my desk at work and the McKee Deane-Hagan-Edwards-Currie print behind me on the wall, as well as 'Waiting for Woodward' and the Sazbo-Haslam Greasy Chip Butty print on my walls at home. I've also been supporting Sheff Utd since the mid 1960s without waver, so just exactly how much do I need to bleed red and white to offer I think Sander Berge is a fucking duff signing and unsuited to our team? I've also been on these messageboards since 1996, written a few songs about the team, been in print about United and appeared on YouTube blogs as part of a well-polished and well-received team of award-winning broadcasters on our beloved team. Yet those who criticise can't offer one fucking sentence to justify why they disagree. Those who do I 'like', because at least they have substance. Those who don't are just wankers. My POV on players and the team isn't the definitive article and a statement of 'the club'. It's 'my opinion'. It is highly unlikely any player comes on here and even if they do and read my shit they will undoubtedly think 'what a prick', and I totally respect that. They are professional footballers, in the team and paid well because of their skill and dedication, and I'm just a fat sailor in his sixties and a Blades fan. But this board is for Blades fans. It's a conduit of opinions and the beauty about football is that those opinion HAVE to be diverse or the game would be irreversibly boring. And it's never boring being a Blades fan. Just look at the past twenty years as a sample. Cup wins, League triumphs, relegations, shit managers, shit teams games where we have played like Barcelona, games where we have played like Barrow. And every fan has a different opinion.

I'd genuinely love the conversation to be about United, rather than me.

I too have the Mckee Currie/Hagan/Edwards/Deano print, but mine is in our downstairs shitter. If you are trying to part with one that's putting up a bit of a struggle, a glance up at the print will bring about a strong frison of excitement which will instantly release the little bastard, usually with a satisfying plop, and voila! - instant satisfaction.....

Alan, me old mucker, that is the absolute epitome of too much information…….

My Szazbo-Haslam GCB was also on my downstairs shitter, so when you faced the pot and were directing a fat stream of golden elixir to wash off the ricochets and were suitably unversed in Blasespeak, you found yourself toying with the lyrics a bit until viola ... by 'Come Fill Me Again!' you finally got the Bramall Lane/John Denver alignment by the time you were at the 'bloop ... bloop ... bloooooop!' bits and ready to shake the drips from your helmet.

Now it has that McKee steelworker pouring out Sheffield's finest condiment, as a tribute to my dear old Granddad Fred. Cost me £100.00 from the gallery did that.

From what I gather Berge's preferred position is defensive midfield. The trouble with that is it only works when we have the ball. He is poor at marking, poor at tackling and can't head a ball (or jump , negating his height advantage). Its almost like he is afraid of the ball when it goes near his head (reminds me of a lad I used to play with donkeys years ago who wore contact lenses). He has been more effective when played further forward and then largely in runs down the right edge of the penalty box followed by a low cross across the face of the goal. He is very rarely a gamechanger and certainly not a pivot for the team. For me he goes missing far too often and looks half-hearted and a fish out of water an awful lot of the time. He wears a red and white shirt so I want him to do well but he disappoints so many times leaving behind a sense that he could be a far better player than he currently is with a bit more of a positive attitude and technical training on tackling, marking and heading. For what its worth I would have had him as a 5 for the game because his defensive display was marginally better than it usually is. My 9 year old grandson would have made a better stab at that free header mind you.

Agree. I actually feel sorry for Berge. I think he is fully aware of the weight of his transfer fee burdening him down but I doubt he has any of the ability to find the strength or ability to shake it off, not at least in the English game at this level or in this team playing this formation. Everything is 'wrong' for him. He's not imposed himself nor nailed in a firm position or even shown he understands how we play despite three seasons at Bramall Lane. For his reputation and fee, I expected him to be better than the bloke he was effectively brought in to replace and if anything, Lundstram actually got better during our first season before lockdown with some pleasing, energetic and wholly committed games from midfield, mixing it up with the best, putting himself into the challenge and scoring some sweet, well thought out goals. Berge came here with a grin on his face and still has it. He's a 'nice lad', which is why people are so defensive of him, despite for long periods in key matches we play with a fucking hole in our team. He has one real USP - he holds the ball well. That's it. Lundstram emptied everything out to get up and back down the pitch and showed real grit and strength.

Fuck me. This sounds like I am nostalgic and missing Lunny, doesn't it? Maybe I am.

So with almost everyone agreeing that Berge ought to be contributing more in our matches ,no matter how you mark him , is it time for the manager to drop him to the bench in an effort to shake him up ? This could be as much for his own good as ours , cus you sure as hell cant see him getting in any premier team on his current performances. He’s got to be better than this surely ,or at least braver ! Unless Heck thinks he’s doing ok …..

I don't think he can be 'shook up'. I think he is a poor purchase, playing in a team, country and division which is not suited to his football. I just don't think he resonates with English football or our team at all.

So what team , country , division is suitable for a player who dosent tackle , wont head the ball , takes no risks , and just cant be bothered to hoss hissen properly . There is a player in there somewhere im sure , but Heck keeps letting him get away with it
