I think the substitutions were all about fresh legs to honest. We'd conceded a lot of space and possession by that point and Bash and Ossie can certainly get about and put a foot in. Why no McAtee? Hecky is hang on to win guy rather than a "take the game away from them, type of manager I guess.

You are right that they are dirty wins at the moment but overall most weeks we deserve it on balance. The big question is, can we step up if we go behind and we've only really seen that tested at QPR for months and months now.

Surely we give Illy a week off next week - send him somewhere warm and put out a basically 2nd team

Not sure about 'fresh legs' and Billy any more. Yes he tries to put himself about but he's so slow the ball's often gone before he gets close enough to put pressure on defenders. I'd have stuck McAtee or even Coulibaly on to give us something different against their lumbering defenders. Then again, I wouldn't have took Jebbo off.

Think Jebbo was on empty and right to bring off with the next game in mind. Agree with you re Billy but I guess Wrexham is his game. McB should have come on before Billy.

100% spot on Pommpey. Don't stop calling it as it is not as rosy glasses wish it to be.
Yes Great result. Way below par performance wise given the ability and talent fielded. Again.

It makes me wonder if this "below par performance" style is actually deliberate and part of our game plan.

Hecky tactics are to start playing positively in a normal open game, then once we have a decent deserved lead, the team decide to declare and pattern down the hatches.
We have this tendency to close out games almost parking the bus which invites pressure.
However to give credit to the team, the defence is easily coping with the pressure, as our goalie consistently has very little to do.
The XG ratings on the infogol website show that we always have better and more chances than the opposition.
So regardless of who has the most possession or which team looks the best.....statistically we have deserved to win almost every match we've played.

I remember last season, in several home games under Jukanovic, we closed out the games by keeping possession with side ways and backwards passing.
You would think this would be a great tactic to use.....however when we did eventually lose the ball we tended to concede last minute goals.

Maybe just convert 50% of our sitters and we're safe and sound by half time. Just a thought. Doyle agrees.

Comedy gold again - Old Pomps calls "Slag off" - "an expression steeped in childishness" WOW!

After the opening of multiple sluice gates, issuing forth endless paragraphs of obscene vile bile from this guy whenever anyone disagrees with him (for example - teenage schoolboy social media bullying of Sander Berge/Oliver Norwood) he has the balls to react like that! Dare anyone ruffle this Peacock's feathers??? (I retreat to a corner and cower in fear of his very sharp pointy finger on the keyboard)
This is about 'me' (attention seeking old me) or about 'the game'?

Make your fucking mind up, eh?

pommpey

Attention-seeking again? (Apologies for the grammatical correction)

Nothing about 'the game'

And its you highlighting 'attention seeking'.

Well done you. Threads like these are really right up your arsehole, aren't they?

Did you watch the match, by the way?

pommpey

The sooner we realise that Berge is closer to Berbatov than Keane, despite his size, the sooner we’ll all relax and enjoy the wonderful parts of his game.

Diversion tactics are meat and drink to me Pomp's (Note: apostrophe not an error here, but indicative of an abbreviation). As you know I was taking a pot at your penchant for personal attacks. As a match analyst you're not bad, apart from the obsessive vendettas of course, and it's a shame you feel the need to react the way you do as I suspect your vocabulary extends beyond that of the average social media trolludite.
Yes - I was at the match, as always, despite the possible alternative of watching from the warm confines of an armchair (a comfort you apparently choose most match days?)

It's always interesting to watch these extended highlights which come out the day after the game.

I think they generally show every touch for both teams in the opposition box, any corners/freekicks and any other chances.

For last night it's interesting the Hull really only had 1 chance all night compared to 3 or 4 for the blades and a few half chances as well

Excellent coverage, I feel happier watching that than thev1-0 scoreline suggested.

You don't need an apostrophe for abbreviations unless it substitutes missing letters to join two words such as don't as in 'don't be such a tiresome wanker, Blend-it-like-Harris'. 'Pomps' is a version of a moniker, and personalised to you. No one else calls me by that.

'Vendettas'. How trite. So everyone else who has issues with say, Norwood and Berge have 'vendttas', yeah? Or just me? According to you. Anyone would think you have a vendetta ...

Oh, the old, I was at the match so my POV qualifies m,ore than yours, sat in your armchair trope. How original. And how justifiably wrong.

Try again, why don't you ....

We always have a scapegoat at the lane, it was Norwood then McBurnie now it's Berge 😟

Berge 6 out of 10 last night nuff said.
Doyle probably a 6/10 also but we all see it through our own lenses don't we.

You need to speak to Blend-it-like-Harris for a bit of a grammar lesson. Full stops, commas and just sentence structure kinda spell out that you didn't type it with a head wand.

So, no pre-conceived bias then, being 'a fan of sander since he was signed'? I mean, Berge could drop his shorts and lay a perfectly formed shite, all coiled up and glistening i the centre circle and sit smoking decent weed whilst the match goes on around him whilst he grins, pushing matches into it and according to you, that would be just fucking toasty, huh?

Tell me what the fuck he did yesterday to warrant your marks. Even a six is pretty fucking dogshit given he's cost us 20 odd million.

Perhaps my original post wasn't clear that I was talking about the midfield changes, although I did reference Bash and Ossie.

Not easy to see why the forward line was changed other than people getting minutes

I get you point about the grammar, but I think you are now arguing with people who are agreeing with you about Berge.

If you are bored, pick a topic, take a side and I'll just make up shit to have a row instead.

Fair shout. Apols.

cheers mate as i said ive always rated berge know you dont i read all the my take threads but hes been awful the last 3 or 4 games and think if we had more midfield options he would be on bench so frustrating because he has got it in him to boss games from midfield it just seems as though hes no interest to me i think he wants away 12/15m and he can go for me

Yep. Concur. Sorry for the shitty approach there.

I take it back

Your response, because of a low mark on a player you rate is equally bizarre.

'Slag off'. Love it. What an expression steeped in childishness

pommpey

"Slag off" - an expression steeped in childishness.......

You're obviously an intelligent bloke Pomp's, so you can see the irony here surely? Referencing a fraction from your back-catalogue of "childishness" (writ very large and in copious quantities of body parts and body waste references etc) is fair game in the name of free speech eh?

PS - Abbreviations aren't limited to two words of course (as in "cannot" being abbreviated to "can't") so I thought an abbreviation of "Pompous" might well be..... "Pomp's".... No?

My honest opinion is that have, by and large, turned into a bunch of entitled pricks. We seem to have forgotten that teams have a symbiotic relationship with the fan base.... We need them and, at times, they need us. That's how it is and always should be. Get off your entitled arses and give the team the support they deserve or... Quite frankly feck off. I bet the players would rather play in front of fewer but totally committed fans than the absolute library the lane is at the moment. And before any bed wetters kick off.... I've followed this team for nearly 50 years and the one constant in all that has been our amazing support.... It breaks my heart... It really does.

No, because 'Pompous' can not (or can't, if you like) be abbreviated. Cunt can't be abbreviated too.

And decorating my missives with adult themed scatological references isn't as such 'childish', is it? You'd hardly want your kids to read about Dani Behr stinking of cock or the fineries of passing stools, or hosing out some TV celebrity after you'd flattened your nutbag into her. Using the term 'slag off' when aligning it with criticism, is however. Slagging someone off is what one would do when offering personalised slander. Ad hominem to a third party, even. As it is, I think Sander Berge isn't quite as good a footballer as some do on here and their evidence to counter that is pretty fucking thin. It's hardly 'slagging him off' is it? Or should we (all) hold our tongues on here for fear of wounding other's feelings about footballers? Or even only post positive missives, all the time?

The childishness of it is rooted in the fact that Berge (if he's got any sense) won't read these boards - or any boards - and even if he does, feels confident who is the well-paid, comfortably-off professional athlete and who isn't. I doubt he'd be mortally wounded by my words and even if it did dent his paintwork, would think 'fuck you'. So it's a but rooery and homework for anyone to feel vicariously pained by what they read on here, on behalf of him, JLT, Norwood, Ramsdale, McB, Lundstram or any other 'agenda-targeted' United player who gets verbally duffed up after a game. We're not calling his mum a cunt, or keying his car. We are saying he needs to do better. Dry your eyes hun.

Phew.... you need to take a well-earned rest after that Pomp's! (Still not quite Tom Sharpe, but keep going mate; I have faith in your literary development). You still need to brush up your grammar a tad though....... "Cannot" is one word. As always your ego will require you to have the last word (or 200), so fire away! (Maybe catch up with you in your next chapter)

Both 'can not' and 'cannot' can be used in informal and formal writing. 'Cannot' is commonly used and preferred in formal writing instead of a contraction but there is no rule of use in general grammar and both are perfectly acceptable.

Short enough?
