Wonderful performance today across the park. Seems like the whole squad is now pulling inwards and feeding connective tissue between the bones and the muscles. We haven't done this for several years now, least of all to completely demolish the table toppers with a successive three nowt helemting ein der balloon knot, sans lube mit eine short run up.

I think that's what the fear was - Reading tubbed this lot midweek and Sarbs did say in the SUTV/Ripoffbastards prematch that on paper, Blackburn were in fact bobbar on a pancake (his words) and we'd run out three nowt winners. Captain of HMS Positive Kevin Gage almost snorted his derision but by the end of a cracking first twenty minutes, Rovers were bouncing off the ropes with their gloves up breathing heavily as we plugged hooks at their ribs. It just needed a goal - from us obviously - because going the other was was pretty powderpuff. A couple of free kicks and corners produced shitpants moments for them and they looked decidedly schonky against Khadra, and even McBurnie was looking less McPub, more McNightclub. It was altogether a real attacking tour de force with ways in coming from all angles and we didn't look like taking the boot off the accelerator pedal. Finally we got a free kick in range and Norwood and Fleck lined up with the tall lads arranged well. Yeah, we all thought, 'brace yourselves in the BLUT' and would rather Khadra or Fodders took it. But fuck me, what we have been waiting for for donkeys years actually happened. Norwood - sweet feet and all - bent a fucking pearler over the wall and into the far corner. It couldn't have been a better free kick if it was Beckham himself who took it. What a fucking goal.

But we weren't prepared to stop there and forced Blackburn back into their half again using Khadra, who terrified the fuck out of them with his pace and doggedness and Berge, who just held onto the ball and ran past players. The middle of Blackburn's team looked frighteningly porous weak and McBurnie just made their defence work harder. Outside of this, wingbacks and midfielders and the all round aceness of Anel kept the scoring jabs hitting the targets, albeit in many cases without much impact.

As ever, the relief of half time gave Blackburn the chance to get a bollocking and try to get at us which, predictably, they did for the first fifteen, But uncharacteristically for United, we firstly absorbed any threats and cancelled them out and then looked threatening when it was cleared. Eventually, they realised we were actually far to strong in too many areas and we just rained shots in and chances galore. Khadra had to come off in the end having run himself blind, and N'Daiye was impressive straight away showing Blackburn there was no rest just because their old boy had gone off. We started to play more in their half and many chances were squandered, if anything good defending and goalkeeping preventing them going further behind. A few minutes later, Berge is part of a surging move and his goalbound shot cannons off Ndaiye's left arsecheek and we have more daylight and breathing space. Blackburn offered a few weak slaps in return but in honesty, they were fucking done, with Brereton-Diaz picking up a frustrated booking and looking like he's had enough of Ewood. It was one of many cynical clumsiness indicators we have seen given to United in two games at BDTBL.

McBurnie misses a series of what many would call sitters then but in his defence - and when have I EVER done that - his determination and passion to score can't be faulted. He wants to prove cunts like me very wrong when I say he is misplaced at United. Some pretty good goalkeeping denied him his goals as it did in midweek. Eventually he trudged off for Brewster who was similarly unlucky especially with a deep break which the keeper stuck out a leg for. Late on, N'Daiye sets off on a mazy run toward goal, seemingly the only direction on his compass. The defence, tired, beaten and dejected fail to get near him and he fires in a fucking lovely shot off the post for the icing on the cake. Blackburn are then flat out on the canvass, spitting out the gumshield. Game, set and match and bingo - we are top of the league. What a fucking feeling.

Foderingham 6/10: Again, not a mark that reflects his performance more the fact that he had practically fuck all to do. He was also well protected by our back three when defending
Lowe 7.5/10: Growing more and more into that LWB role
RND 7.5/10: Energetic performance from him but still not a LCB. That said, he did well today
Egan 8/10: Towering outing from him and very much bossed their meagre attack
Anel 8/10: Another great outing. Really impresses with his reading of the passes and interceptions. He's no mug is this lad
Baldock 7.5/10: Played very high up this match and made their job difficult
Fleck 7/10: Much improved and involved and very much Jonny again.
Norwood 8.5/10: Splendid game. Would have had half a mark more were it not for some early wayward passing. The free kick was sublime and he seems now to remember he can hit people from corners and even hit the goals too
Berge 7.5/10: Drifted in and out of the game at times but when he was on the ball he was devastatingly good. They simply couldn't get near him
Khadra 7.5/10: Great debut from him. His pace and chasing was something we haven't seen for years, as was his intelligence on and off the ball
McBurnie 7/10: A really dogged outing from him, if unfortunate not to get a goal. Small reversion to shithousing but generally a great match for him and the crowd made their appreciation shown

N'Daiye 8/10: A threat from the start and kept the momentum going well. First goal off the arse second one a fucking beaut, much like the Fulham one last year away.
Basham 6.6/10: Played all over the park in Baldock's position even suddenly appearing unmarked in the box to nod over
Brewster 6/10: Energetic if unproductive
Doyle 6/10: Nice to see the lad though we didn't actually 'see' much of him

HJ&SMcC 9/10: Goot tactics and strategy to completely collapse Blackburn and negate Cameron Diaz. good subs too

Away at the Hatters next Friday. Last season it was an indication how Slavball was never gonna work. This season it should be an indication we mean it this time.

Like McBurnie 7 out of 10 don't like fleck 1 out of 10 ... didn't watch the match

Drunk Blade in 'Drunk' shocker.

Where are your marks out of ten, big man? Or is your job just to stalk other people's threads when you're incoherent and addled?

Dont tend to mark the whole team, cant be bothered, just pulling you up when you are talking shit, Mcburnie can miss 3 absolute sitters and get a 7 yet Norwood plays a long pass which the full back can't control and it gives him a 1 out of 10 every other week

So you're focusing on me, every time? It's your mission to 'pull me up' when you think I 'talk shit'?

Yet you 'can't be bothered' to offer anything of your own opinion.

Consider yourself reported. I'd respond in kind but I'm sick of well meaning posts getting hijacked by the likes of you.

I mean this in the nicest possible way but someone who scored RND and McB 7.5 and 7 weren't there today. By FAR the best two players on the park.

You're right. I wasn't there.

I watched it on SUTV.

RND (in my opinion) still plays like a LCB out of position. Until there's more cohesion and understanding with him and Lowe then it never will be a permanent position for him.

McBurnie would have obviously scored higher had he netted his chances. You also need to direct your fire on the many who say he's bobbar regardless of his obvious change in attitude and performance.

As I say, not a dig at all. You probably see bits and pieces on TV that I don't pick up on and vice versa. No drama here 👍

Certainly a few lads shoving words back down people's throats. After the Middlesbrough meltdown we've delivered two very convincing performances. Rarely seen us as fully dominant as today from start to finish. Everyone played well. McBurnie was brilliant and deserved a goal. Fleck possibly MOTM for me alongside Norwood. Bench looks proper strong as well. If we can keep Berge we look like we'll go very close.

Maybe them who scream for Norwood and Fleck to be binned off will calm down for a while now. Or at least until Friday night.

Was rating our players in my head towards the end of the game and the scary thing was not many drifted from a 7/10 performance.

A couple of 8s, but most importantly no6s for me. Was a dominant display and we barely came out of 2nd gear. Some team we have this season.

I thought Norrington Davis had his best game for the club yesterday as may be did Lowe even after a bit of a shaky start I could be picky and say say that Blackburn were weak down their right but that sounds negative Id say well done everyone a fantastic game, and well done Pomps another good read nearly as enjoyable as watching the match.

Thanks for the write up. Watching this on SUTV half way up a mountain in sunny Sicily on mobile data glad I packed the laptop. Excellent game let's hope this is the start of our run to promotion. 16610749468908022048419179585279.jpg

Very good win yesterday from back to front we had some quality performances. 3-0 flattered them could have easily been 5 or 6 . 2 quality goals from Norwood & Ndiaye just added to what was a dominant performance.
MOTM Norwood yesterday but lots of other contenders in red & white shirts . Special mention for McBurnie worked his bollocks off , just wish he’d get that goal that will get the monkey off his back .

McBurnies recieved more criticism than any other player at Bramall Lane and a lot of it justifiable.but yesterday he did a job on the Blackburn defence wearing them down to a frazzle. But for the goalies knees and ankles he may have had a hat trick. Ihes simply no getting the rub like. Ndiaye. got when he arsed one in

His attitude and effort were spot on and his team mates know he. will win us the ball in forward positions

I noticed after the Millwall match, that mcburnie was the first to hug and congratulate each and every player as they came off, and the togetherness was clearly mutual.

His teammates are far better qualified to judge his efforts, abilities and value to the team than bystanders and this struck me at the time.

Put simply if he can net sooner rather than later and it clicks, well he is the penultimate part of the jigsaw. It’s just not falling for him but perseverance is key.

I was willing McBurnie to get a bloody goal and thought he should have at least scored when he had the the chance to just volley it in the back of the net.
I think once he gets one he he may just go on a scoring run.
I also thought Anel has become Joc and loved seeing the overlapping CBs tactic done well again. I guess that’s why RND is played at the left as he ventures down and got into good positions in attack.
Great match with big shouts out to everyone one of them

Agreed, I would have said that yesterday, but went straight out on the pop after the game, and decided to keep drinking all the way up to the boxing match (AJ vs Usyk).

It was one of those days when 6-0 wouldn't have seemed a daft score.

The only thing that would have made it better, would have been if Wes Fodders had sat in a deck chair, reading a newspaper, as he had little else to do.

Great match report pommpey , agree with all that. Oli McB showing in the last two games that he really, really wants to come good for the fans.

Win, lose or draw, we're coming back for more!

Up the Blades!

We were much better than them from start to finish.

1st half they decided to give us 70 yards of the pitch and try to take us on the break, it never really worked and of course the goal meant that 2nd half they had to change.

Initially , the press did seem to work for them but then we seemed to play through it and they were then in real trouble as our skill and intensity were much higher.

I'd be interested to hear from those who like to analyse the finer details (Bergen Blade etc.) why the press on us works so well some times and doesn't on others. There is an accepted wisdom that stick someone tight on Norwood and United resort to going long and we lose all our rythm. If it was that easy, we would never have been promoted and finished in the top half of the prem.

we are even starting to see the full backs turning up all over the park. Baldock gave away a free kick in the left winger position yesterday at one point, bash putting the header over from the cross late on and lowe scroing from an inside left position (apologies to th youth) on Wednesday. Strange days

This post touched upon this.

Sunderland pressed us high up the pitch and made it hard for us to get going. Hecky tried to tweak things, but we really found it difficult and we won't know how it would have gone if they'd kept 11 men on the pitch. The sending off meant it was impossible for them to keep up the high pressure.

Blackburn were clearly more aggressive and won more second balls just after the break. Norwood completed just three passes during the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half. Berge and Fleck the same. I think they ran out of steam a little, but we also managed to start causing them problems when we got on the ball. In the end, and helped by Ndiaye coming on, we had too much for them.

I think you ask an important question that we need to learn from. Sunderland and Blackburn ended up being good wins for us, but Sunderland made it difficult for us the first 30 minutes, and Blackburn were similar for about 15 minutes after the break. Other teams will notice, and try the same.

This is exactly how I saw it. Sunderland were doing well until the red, Blackburn stopped us for 10-15 minutes but it did look like they simply ran out of energy, and perhaps that is one flaw with trying to play a high press. I'll have a look at your other post. ta.
