Cracking match and an end result we are somewhat undeserved of. I though we looked, as a team, very much better connected from front to back today against Bournemouth who are where they are because they are well disciplined and effective. First half we went at them and should have been a couple up in truth. Second half they pegged us back and did the same but didn't test Fodders much. Save for MGWs one on one and a fucking stonewall penalty ... and Bournemouths niggly shitousery I can't say I am too dischuffed with what we showed.

Obviously with his choices limited HJ&SM deceised to go with what they started with against QPR and rather than look a tad fragile at times on Tuesday we bulldozed at the Cherries and negated any of their playmakers in the first 45. Solanke was well marshalled and the outside threats covered fairly well. The old wingback partnership of Baldock and Stevens seems to be re-gelling but Davies worries me at times. I'd much prefer JLT in that LCB role and we missed his throws today. Midfield in the first half I thought we would be outplayed and bypassed in the midfield especially in the Billing vs Berge area but we managed. And for once, McBurnie's headers seemed to be finding people which led to a great deal more possession.

We still allow teams to corral us into the wide, passing-drill areas. Bournemouth are good at snuffing out danger there and hunting us down. We do need t learn the value of the middle of the park being a route to goal and if anything a Fleck-Berge-Norwood arrangement with Berge more advanced in the Duffy role picking up and running at.

It's put us in a decent position in the top six as I write this if a little games-played-heavy compared with Forest and Boro. But a point against a top two side is valuable and keeps us in the mix.

Foderingham 6/10: Again not a massive tsk on him thanks to the defence. His distribution was a bit iffy at times, but it's yet another clean sheet bonus for him
Baldock 6.5/10: Another characteristic blood and guts performance from him. Had Dembele mostly sorted and went up the pitch looking for opportunities
Uremovic 7.5/10: Seems to be settling in well, and very much in the wars against a shithousery front line. His miss ... um, yeah. Think in truth he was offside anyway from the first ball in on Davies's head
Egan 7.5/10: Liked his output today. Coming out of position to intercept and head and marshalling Solanke into fairly harmless positions
Davies 5/10: Still looks fragile at times. The hospital pass to Fodders my case in point. Elsewhere he was okay, but JLT is a better option
Stevens 7/10: Back in the game now and battling well for his position and deservedly picked ahead of RND
Norwood 7/10: Another decent performance from him with few mistakes and no thumping it long any more. Worked hard to get involved
Berge 6.5/10: Glimpses of greatness but second half faded somewhat
Fleck 6.5/10: Another Duracell performance from JF. Faded a bit in the second half but covers ground and gets stuck in. A bit unfortunate with the yellow card
MGW 7.5/10: Fucking player. He is just a class above everyone else. Should have buried his one on one but the goalkeeper shakes the dice on those, and was unlucky in the first half with a difficult opportunity saved by their keeper. The tackle on him was a stonewall penalty
McBurnie 6.5/10: A lot better from him. Linked well, fought for every ball and limited his ref-baiting somewhat.

Osborne 5/10: No idea why he replaced Fleck. Usual runs-about-but-fuck-all-to-show-for-it outing
Hourihane 5/10: Not a massive amount to mark him on

Ref 1/10: Fucking useless. Needed an early warning/yellow card to Smith and Cook for their antics and needs downmarking by the EFL/FA for his blindness to the kick on MGW. That wasn't a case of 'seen them given' more 'they get given' except for that bellend.

BTW, an interesting stat on our proficiency with regard goals and Mr Billy Sharp, who in interview before the game gestured toward a few more weeks before he will be back. That worries me intensely. We need goals and wins on this run in if we aren't to deflate and drop out of the battle. Sharp is our only answer ... over to you Fallowfield

I can't disagree with any of that pomps aside from saying the croatian lad was worse than Davies for me. JLT should be playing, he has been our best defender all season. Annoying result for me we should have won with the chances.

Berge so bad you didn’t even acknowledge his existence Pomp’s?

Spot on I also think Uremovic had a great game and showed them no quarter unlike some people in the Uremovic thread.
I've mentioned it a few times but he got smashed in the face just before that bad miss so we was probably seeing double.
There was a shot on Sky of him going off at the end with blood running down his face.

Another Clean sheet, we showed some good spells, Wes had nowt to do, clean sheet and we are still in the mix despite the referee, injuries etc etc. I think sometimes people forget the reasons to be positive when there are so many negative aspects of the Blades current situation with players injuries etc. UTB

McBurnie deserves a higher score there Pommps. He was every bit as good as Enda who you have a 7 and Egan who got a 7.5. All about opinions but I thought Egan did the basics and no more. He fell down first half when they played the long ball over the top, giving them a half chance and almost got caught napping at the end of the game when the defence just stood and watched as the ball drifted towards goal.

They were no more than Norwich Lite for me, talk about all fall down. That's all they had and there were three of four occasions where they were on the way down before the contact came. Not sure why referees still fall for that shit. Anybody who's played a bit can see it, it's fucking obvious but week in week out we see free kicks galore for fuck all but when there's a nailed on penalty they wave it away. Strange.

Good report pommps. It’s a point hard earned against a top 2 side, where on the balance of play and a ‘normal’ ref we get a win and 2 more points.

It’s the tripe we are serving up at away grounds that will cost us this season.

UTB !

I'd upgrade Davies to a 6.5, I much prefer him to Robinson.
Berge I'd downgrade to a 5, I thought he was poor again and just did not affect the game. He's now been subbed off in the last 2 games, not good enough for one of our so called best players.

Thought our wingbacks let us down today. I kind of see what you're saying regarding Davies but I still think he's a much better player than Robbo.

So by your reckoning Gibbs White should be a 6.5? Probably go at least one point lower to a 5.5 then, bearing in mind he's a striker who missed two good chances 😉

MGW isnt a Striker he is Central Midfield. ;)

Cheers pommpey a good read, as usual. I think the Fleck substitution might have been with him being on a yellow, late on he tends to do that thing when someone gets passed him, where he either fouls them or clips their legs to break up play and gets booked, so maybe Hecky was not risking him getting a second yellow🤷🏻‍♂️

It was a strange game, we had by far the best chances but the number of times we lost possession to them was frustrating. If only Gibbs White had put one of his chances in when clean through.

The margins are so small - yep, they were the better team........we had the better chances, and a stone wall pen turned down, when the ref was ten yards away!...........the pathway to the Prem wont be decided who is the best team..............it will hinge on a ref decision - good or bad!

I also thought Uremovic might be given offside.

Pity he couldn't slot it in and the officials just leave it as well as giving the pen.

There would have been a bit of poetic justice winning through an offside goal and a penalty given that's what they won by, though this actually was a pen rather than theirs which was no more than a free kick.

Berge wasn’t brilliant but he can turn a game but to sub him why?
That was negative putting on run around and Houlahane

He doesnt give a shit ,unforgivable.

Must admit at the start of the season I had a few disagreements with your reports , but today's and the last few weeks you've mellowed and markings have been based on performance and not favouritism of players (as I saw it).
Great My Take today, apart from the refs 1 point, why?. I can only think it was for putting his boots on the right feet because it was the only thing he did get right today.

Another low mark for McBurnie who I thought played well today.

What do you expect, Metal? And what do you define as 'playing well'?

For me, 'playing well' denotes he was involved in creating goals and chances (only one chance) and dominated their centrebacks having at least five or six attempts on goal saved or hit the post/bar. Didn't see much of that. Yes, he ran about a bit, linked better with MGW and the midfield and as ever was present in our defence, but let's not get carried away. An improved performance doesn't get marks, that is relativism. I mark players on their output and you say 'again' there ... so he's played out of his skin before?

When, exactly? He is a centre forward and hasn't scored for 18 months. Evidence please.

pommpey

Good report Pommps. I thought McB was more involved than I've seen for what seems like years, I was actually willing him to score. We did more than ok, but MGW needs to just engage brain (and sometimes vision) a bit more than he does. Atmosphere wasn't bad either.
I think you overmarked the ref. What an utter nob.
As for Scott Parker. Twat. Always has been, always will be.

We have been on this roundabout before so I won't bother going over old ground I get you don't like him, to give him a lower mark than others is petty, at least you are consistent I suppose.
