I didn’t think we were that bad today, albeit I was paying more attention to the Lego Friends sets I was building with my daughter while the match was on.

I’m glad that Ramsdale is becoming a decent keeper, the fuckwits might get off his case now.

I thought McBurnie did ok and we improved going forward 2nd half, but we needed him in the box and not on the edge trying to play in a position that he can’t.

Lundstram wants sending to the u18’s, he’s not in the slightest bit bothered about his teammates and is just trying to do the bare minimum to get through games.

Baldock did a job, hard game for him but better than having Stevens at LCB, he’s lost the plot completely. Bryan was decent. Ampadu was Ampadu, good and bad in equal measure.

McGoldrick is the only one who looks likely to do anything but then tries to chip an 8ft keeper instead of just smashing it.

Vestergaard and Bednarek live for long goal kicks punted down their throats and we obliged.

Brewster, who knows. There must be a footballer in there somewhere waiting to come out, I just wish the most profound thing he did in an afternoon wasn’t to just raise his fist when he’s taking a knee. Some actual football impact might not go amiss.

Fancy letting him score as well.

Not as bad as it could have been but we are where we are on merit now, that’s fairly obvious to me and saddening.

It's always a bad sign when I start to wonder why I'm bothering, and these days all I have to do is roll out of bed and switch the closest media device on. I think that's the problem, in a way; if I had to drag my arse up to the M25 and then attempt to hitchhike all the way around its top left corner to the M1, then arrive just in time for kick-off, I'd get more out of the day, even if we are getting dicked every week.

Anyway pommpey , top write-up as ever, and not much I can disagree on.

Not sure we can talk about 'narrow margins', 'inability to spend money' and some perceived gulf in class any more, to be honest. Yeah, injuries have taken their toll, crowd absence maybe less, but today's outing was a clear indication of our failings at this lofty level. I also suggest anyone who is still shipping a bit of blood in the old todger about last (half a) season and the previous three, commence detumescing a couple of notches. We need to affirm what we are and where we are 'right now'. What happened in the past is but a dim memory. That glorious afternoon in the car park carrying the players from the coach can go down in fond memory like Darlington away and Leicester away, because we have some painful truths to deal with if we don't want to see our club relegated as bottom club and furthermore fall again through the trapdoor of the Championship too. On todays performance, I challenge anyone to prove that thought wrong.

First fifteen minutes we looked the more likely team to score and a few chances - Didsy putting Poor Kid through, his own attempted chip - maybe we should have made the most of it. But our complete disorganisation at the back with Scumpton playing long ball over the back after long ball over the back exposed our frailties. For the record I don't think our 'back three' had a massively bad game considering none of them are who you'd pick out of our fully fit squad. But it was bound to come unstuck at one stage and when you have someone with vision and pace like Tella terrorising Baldock and Bogle, if it didn't come from the daft free kicks they were giving away, it would come from one over the top. Ampadu had no option to put the challenge in and it was a lottery given his and Tella's position if he made contact with the player or the ball, and Ramsdale - who had a great game - wouldn't stand a chance with a dead ball specialist like Ward-Prowse taking the kick.

After that we went all flaccid, and Southampton started to take control of the game, and us. With Ings off the pitch and Adams on, you'd think we'd double down on his propensity to score against us, but the second half, with it all to play for and us really needing to impose, push on and get a result - and achieve Objective #2 of this season - we just remained flaccid, sloppy, careless and above all else, beatable. From Lundstram's expected fuck up and Adams's class strike, it was then a toss up with how they'd manage the game to a win and also how many more we'd ship.

Just seen Wilder looking a bit more humble on his interview, which is good. He is right, there does need to be a shake up. Some players do need to go and he does need to review this season and fucking well learn. Today is a great example of why it has gone so wrong but measure that against the myriad of losses at home earlier with a stronger line up and really, nothing has changed, has it? We are all over the place for the majority of games no matter what system or players we field, and oppositions simply pick us off like professional boxers. They know our game and how to beat us and that measure of predictability is the story of our campaign and downfall. If WIlder is to start on the front foot next August he has some key decisions to make, chief of all how he sets the team up to challenge and above all else, win. He's done it before and like with Norwich, can do it again. Whereas Norwich didn't spend and came crashing down, we have spent and wasted and have come crashing down. It's not good enough.

Ramsdale 8/10: Improving with every game now. He seems to be finding some sort of embattled form, keeping the score acceptable, whilst watching screamers like Adams's whistle past his despairing grasp. Some decent stops.
Bogle 6/10: Had his hands full with Tella and Bertrand and various others out wide who pressurised our unfamiliar set up. Slight chance in second half but still shows his potential
Baldock 5/10: Well out of position. Really exposed at times and you could see, yearning to do what he wants to do up that flank. Easily thwarted by the long ball over the top too.
Bryan 6.5/10: Again, not a bad outing from Kean who when you think about it seriously, wouldn't even make our bench on a normal Saturday.
Ampadu 5/10: Fair to middling stuff. He gets himself into the various situations and scrapes but to me, is longing for the end of the season where he can finally get the fuck outta Dodge and move his career in a different direction which doesn't involve some of the schmucks he currently plays with
Stevens 2/10: Like Enda. Clumsy, unconfident, failing and ready to be one of those shipped out, possibly back to Pompey
Lundstram 0/10: Dreadful. Halfway through the second half, he could have sneaked off the pitch, gone and had a shower and got changed and fucked off, and it would have affected our game not one iota. He was clueless in the middle, a terrible, clumsy gaffe which led to Adams's strike and made some frankly idiotic playing decisions that if Wilder watches a vid of the game, would convince him that he should play no further part in our starting team for the rest of the season. The sooner we get rid of Lundstram, the better. I recall criticising him in a PL warm up game against Stade Riems a bit back that he was fucking useless and getting a shitload of abuse for it. Fancy discussing that POV now?
Norwood 5.5/10: A moderate improvement on previous woeful outings and even if it gets him into the 'he's shit' bracket instead of the 'he's fucking shit' bracket, small gains, huh? At least once or twice I witnessed him actually sprinting back to cover on transition of possession and less pointing and pinging. Then he's subbed for McPub. Great work Wilder!
Fleck 7/10: A better performance from him. Not perfect but more John than Jimmy, even if it in effect gave us nowt in progressive attacking and threat.
McGoldrick 7.5/10: His shit pass to a very free Brewster was the first error Dids has done this season so drops half a point for it. Otherwise he was really our only outlet, until subbed for Sicknote
Brewster 6/10: Honestly thought he worked very, vey hard and as ever with our strikers, got nothing at all. I jumped out of my seat when McGoldrick had the chance to put him through because I want the kid to score a goal so much.

McBurnie 4/10: Did what McBurnie did, when played completely out of position in the fucking number ten spot. We already had a Number 10 on the pitch in McGoldrick so why not get old arms and legs up in the box to compete with Vestergaard and Bednarek and have Poor Kid feeding off the knock downs? Then McB is out on the fucking wing, then deep lying, then falling over in their penalty D. Jesus.
Mousset 0/10: Fucking abysmal. Look, Wilder ... just pay the fucker off and get shut, eh? He is neve gonna turn good and suddenly transform into Billy Dearden of Brian Deane is he? He's a fucking fraud, and the muted questions many of us had when you signed him from Bournemouth (then, a PL side) having spent much of his time as he does with us - on the bench - with a piss poor return on goals were answered tonight. He has had his chance, and so have you. Ditch him.
Sharp 6/10: Simply for the effort he put in trying anything he could to wrestle this dismal game into a result. It was typical Billy and typical 'Captain goes down with the ship' stuff

We have ten games left now and one clear objective but with three gainable points today squandered against a Southampton side really holed below the waterline and ready to sink, we fucked it up big style regardless of the apparent capabilities on show. It was an other poor performance amongst poor performances aplenty and the rawness of losing now much be numb in that dressing room and not having much effect. The only way Wilder can deal with it is to take some of the aforementioned Twelve O'Clock High philosophy and bench - or drop completely - some of the weak areas we have to give the up and comers some incentive to impress and gain a Premier League badge or two. What the fuck have we got to lose?

I also heard Merson on Gillette Soccer Satdi say that he saw Wilder was downbeat in his interview and 'he wouldn't be surprised if something didn't happen this evening'. I fucking hope not. I want him here next season. He is our only hope. Some of the players however, are definitely not.

pommpey
Think you've been generous to Mousset

I agree ball carrying ability, ball control in tight areas and even his preferred passing range all preclude him from playing the 10 role. I agree he’ll be fine next year if we keep him but I’d be uncomfortable with him as a starter if we got back to this level.

So why no plan accordingly?

Next season can't just be about getting promoted again but what we do if we do!

I agree I’d much prefer us to recruit another option this summer

Rammers has been pretty much faultless since the turn of the year. I seriously think he may go in the summer if a decent bid is submitted for him. This would be a massive mistake as he he could quite easily be our No1 for over a decade at least meaning we have one position we don't even have to think about every TW.

I thought McB was pretty good when he came on and did exactly the role he was asked to do. He very rarely lost the ball, layed it off well and won pretty much everything in the air. It's not his fault we aren't playing to his strengths. Look at his goals frfom his season at Swansea that made us buy him and you can see why he's struggling here.

Would be a disaster imo it would mean taking a midfielder who is bad under pressure and putting him in the most congested area of the p

Norwood hasn't the ball carrying capabilities or skills at feet to be a No10. Just look at McGoldrick and compare with Norwood.

Nowrood is and always will be a Championship level Centre Mid. He has one toolbox with a couple of shiny spanners in it, one's which fit the attachments in the Championship.

pommpey
Mcgoldrick is a poor number 10. He never picks a through ball and holds onto the ball for too long.

Me too. It is needed both for him, the scoreline and the team

pommpey
i think youve been kind to chris wilder in your assesment pommpey he picks the team and hes bolloxed it up time after time stevens lundstram mousset should never wear the shirt again for a start how the f**k can he pick stevens in front of osborn for a start and i totally despair with his continued comments that the system works i know your probably right that he deserves the chance to get us back up but just now i feel so depressed by this season it wouldnt bother me if he was sacked never thought i would post that on here 😥

"....he could have sneaked off the pitch, gone and had a shower and got changed and fucked off, and it would have affected our game not one iota"

Like he did at Brighton.

The only way I'd question everyone else on the subject of this player is that I don't really think it's because he doesn't give a toss. I can't pass an opinion on that. However, I just don't think he's a very good player. He never showed anything when we were in the Championship then all of a sudden he's in everyone's Fantasy League team. He had half a dozen matches when he was like that comic book character "Billy's Boots". Then one day, a year last October, his mum threw those battered old boots away and he's returned to being plain old John Lundstram.

I just file him in the same mental cupboard as Jack Robinson. Neither are PL standard players, barely Championship level, but at least Jack doesn't have to turn up every week and be humiliated at the moment, and I'm grateful for that because it's just cruel. I don't blame any footballer for not being good enough. I blame the manager who keeps picking him.

It amuses me to imagine that he's already signed a pre-contract with some other chump and what they must be thinking now. And good luck to the lad making such a great living out of so little talent.

And then I wake up in a cold sweat after the nightmare realisation that the renewed contract our de-facto Director of Football offered him could end up getting signed after all.

Agree ref Lundstram. I always thought he was a blue spot Coutts and never tacticall as good as him to earn any recognition in our midfield. The aformentioned Satade Riems game he looked fucking shoddy and again seemed like he'd had no pre match brief on what the fuck to do. Again, I brought this up on here to a tirade of slavver.

Then he has a few decent games, plays a fucking worldie of a pass to Mousset at Evrton and bags a couple of goals in the Burnley game, is judged offside at Spurs but looks 'capable'. Maybe he has turned a corner?

We start the game against Man United at home and are suddenly well ahead of them at 2-0 and sometime in the second half, Lundtstram is dispossessed, beaten for pace and effort and by the end of the match, we scrape a 3-3- draw but from that moment on, about ten minutes into the second half, Lundstram has been utter dogshit for us. I have yet to see him as good as that four or five games up to 24 Nov 2019. We've been carrying him ever since, and post lockdown into this season he has been a fucking liability, especially since dummygate and Berge coming in.

pommpey

Pretty much spot on Pomps - although I thought Didzy just wasn't at the races today and looked off the pace... Probably due to the weight of carrying the team all season!
Agreed Rammers is improving each week.
I also thought Brewski looked hungrier today too - hopefully a lucky tap in is around the corner which will aid his confidence.

As for Lunny, Moose and Enda I couldn't agree more. In fact I said to my 15 year old lad that Lunnys performance was the worse midfielder showing I've seen in donkeys years. He's got to be dropped/got rid.

I’m really sorry and this isn’t a pop at you or anyone else who says he did ok but McBurnie? I must be watching football in a parallel universe. He is a fucking disgrace. He seemed determined to get himself sent off with rants at the ref, picking a fight that he would never have to deliver on and should have had a second yellow for the petulant shove near the end. The way he threw himself to floor after the last time he was dispossessed was just laughable. He has no touch, seems incapable of straightening his legs when he runs ( bit of a clue here about his athleticism) and yes, he wins headers, but to what end? Just nodding balls on is of no use to the team. He cannot receive balls and hold them up as he has no touch and is as weak as a wet blanket.
It infuriates me that that he is getting paid to turn out for our team.

While Stevens hasn't been playing well he is at least trying. So I think it's unfair to class him with lunny and Mousset in not giving him a shirt again.

We’ve got to take the posetives out of this season the Prince has to make sure we pay the money to have a crack at championship if not we could be on our way to L1

Seeing Norwoods video the other day gave me pause to consider that words can be used that are too far.

But in my considered opinion, moose and lundstram should never play another minute for us. They are done, and I'm done with them

Pub football, then?

As I have said elsewhere, the shit he pulls is the niggly stuff I used to be up to playing Sunday League in Pompey in the 80s and playing ship's football (less so on this one)

There's 'being competitive', and there's 'being a cunt'. Against some sides, you had to dial one up at the expense of the other. I was lucky not to be redded on some occasions but picked up a fair few yellows for shithousery and pub football tactics.

You don't really expect to see that shit in the top flight.

im not defending mcburnie by any means but we all thought he was a great signing after his goalscoring for swansea but hes been hopeless for us and chris knows it personally ive never rated him from day one hes just one of a number i would sell if any sort of decent offer comes in for him im hoping swansea get promoted and they want him back

Would be a disaster imo it would mean taking a midfielder who is bad under pressure and putting him in the most congested area of the pitch.

The final third in the opponents defensive part of the pitch is not very congested at all

He’s invested £120million so I don’t think we can complain about his commitment. We need to ship out the dross first and use whatever we get to build a team for the future.

Mousset good grief. I would bet good money that he was injured when we signed him.
Pay him off now.
I'd rather keep McGoldrick on the pitch, because even when he's knackered, he's the only striker capable of scoring.
Stupid tactics, we've seen this before against a free flowing Southampton side packed with trickery.
Time to blood one or two youngsters.
