Blimey. I am a fucking nervous wreck after that. I wanted us to run out consummate winners, with all players once again coming up in the high out of tens, just because ... well, because we'd deserve it, maybe. I wanted it to be a mauling for fat Sam's lot, for us to have maybe four, five goals in the bag and Wilder to put the kids on to run about. We all wanted the win because of what it meant to us the supporters and the club and it's players. How they went about it and got that though was typically United, wasn't it? Some bloke once said 'If we're gonna do it, we'll do it the hard way, eh?' and some other bloke sampled him saying it and stuck it over the instrumental bit of a crappy, stylised cover version of a Beatles song once. And tonight, we did just that. You can't beat a mucky victory, one where it never looks like you're gonna score but it manages to end up in the net after you have slung everything at them. I have always said if you give Billy Sharp not even half a chance ... possibly a quarter of one and it has half a foot of space attached to it, it will be the most fatal mistake you'll make. That goal was the biggest 'Sit down, Brewster' message ever, and one to show the young lad that 'this is what being a centre forward is'. Brewster, take note. Billy has another year or two in him yet.

We also look a shade better at the back, provided we aren't pressured like the break that led to their goal. Quite aside from Ramsdale's E minus 'save' onto the feet of the WBA attacker, the defence just looked static when the threat was evident. Ramsdale didn't have much to do all game in fact and should have done better with that save, but showed remarkable reflexes to palm away that close range effort, even if it was offside (it's a bit like celebrating a wank, my mate said of it when I opined it was a cracking stop)

Shame to lose Furious and I hope he recovers quick because Lowe's first touch was abysmal. His crossing is helmet-cheese also. The midfield still worries me somewhat. I looked into it in the first half when we were playing heaps of Wilderball down on this left flank and there was a fucking great big hole in the middle where a square ball should find Norwood in space to advance on goal or lay in the two strikers. But he is pinned at the back playing stand in Centre Back waiting for the advance to come all the way back to him and across. It was trying to get it down the flank via Billy that led to us losing the ball, and their goal (I think). Yeah, we have 70% possession, but making use of that is the key and fat Sam had that first half all sewn up. Mop us up and hit us on the break. Second half we still tried it and then CW adjusted it and we started to make more use of space, at first to no avail, but the chances mounted up - you just knew we'd score. Good to see that we didn't contract either and went for the second. As said, a deserved, hard fought three points. Maybe we might get something out of the Chelsea game ... I have my fingers crossed.

Ramsdale 5/10: I have to give him that. Came and collected well in the first bit of the first half, but fucking hell ... palming it out like he did was seriously non-league goalkeeping and unforgivable. And second half some of his punches were iffy as fuck and could have gone anywhere. Top save close in, but that was a 'numbers game' stop, and offside anyway.
Baldock 6/10: Usual Furious stuff from George. Odd to see him in an advanced position over in the opposite midfield area at times. He did give the ball away cheaply once as well. His injury looks worrying - he's not the sort to call in sick, is he? Looked like he was hobbling a bit in the first half too.
Basham 9/10: Drops a point because he too was guilty of a stray ball or two, but face it, Bash's back. He has such a nuanced eye for how the game is played and the art of the possible. Lovely touch on the ball and a measured cross into danger for our second. Love this bloke. He is a Bookeresque legend in red and white. Great performance today, and his heading has improved too.
Egan 7/10: Sound, solidity at the back and now looking like he and Ampadu have some sort of understanding between them. He is less worried who is playing on his left now and it shows
Ampadu 7.5/10: Thought he looked a lot more composed than he has in the recent past and strange, one of our long range cracks on target comes from - our LCB.
Bogle 7.5/10: Really improving in his unfamiliar LWB position and obviously better in his RWB. I still think he is a potential right winger in a four man midfield. Took his goal exceptionally well and is a sneaky menace in the box, much like Kieron Freeman used to be
Lundstram 6/10: Acceptable workmanlike performance and did what it says on the wrapper. Looks like we are stuck with him
Norwood 6/10: First half was quite involved and his two consecutive corners were the best I have seen him put in since Wolves at home last year. But that free kick was one of those stubborn, Chappie-smelling, mahogany coloured, dog turds, which highly-annoying, yappy Jack Russells push out of their rear-ends with a tremble and whimper. And that aggressive, 'wipe-your-paws-on-the-grass' manoeuvre they fucking do, post dump. Second half I didn't see much of him TBH (cue: 'You fucking kidding? He was all over the pitch like Muhammad Ali's autograph!")
Fleck 6.5/10: Sorry for dropping him a couple of marks here. Although he dug out and got stuck in generally, he did give the ball away a lot tonight with sloppy passes. I hope Jimmy Fleck isn't coming back.
McGoldrick 8/10: Again - he's the solution to every ball knocked long or loose in the fray. He captures the ball, runs with it, passes effectively and pulls the operational end of Sheffield United together like a Sergeant in the battlefield. You can see that even for advancing age and lack of speed, oppositions fear his guile and footballing prowess.
Sharp 7.5/10: Good old Billy Sharp. For much of the game he was feeding off scraps and half chances. Odds are then are that if you give him enough of them, he'll punish you for it. His ability to just stick a toe onto a loose ball and it ends up in the net is uncanny, but he's built an entire career on it.

Lowe 5.5/10: His first touch was a pass to them but he slowly came into the game, even if he Kozluked a cross into the kop
McPub 4/10: Typically Pubby McPub for much of his attacking ventures. Clumsy and wasteful, much better as a defender where I'd say he's as good as anything we have back there.
Burke Unmarked: Wanted him to score
Brewster: Poor kid. Get dressed, son.

Wilder 10/10: Well done feller.

So, we are on a run now, or sorts and tucked up behind West Brom with the possibility of overhauling them if fat Sam can't turn things round for the Bogies. He does look in trouble, as his team is essentially as weak as nun's piss, with no sign of improvement. We'll be down with them next season but I can't envision any PL team coming in and raiding their pantry either. For us however, it may be a different story, losing Berge, Egan, O'Connell ... possibly Baldock and maybe Norwood to Hallamshire Celtic, Brunsmeer Juniors or Throstles. Ramsdale will end up pricing up on biscuits and crisps in Asdas near Millhouses, Moussett upside down in a tree on the Woodhead pass (still in his car) and Brewster sat at home on his X Box, his mum having forgot to tell him that bloke Chris phoned him last week asking where the fuck he was.

Ramsdale's E minus 'save' onto the feet of the WBA attacker, the defence just looked static when the threat was evident. Ramsdale didn't have much to do all game in fact and should have done better with that save,
Cant disagree more. Not a great Rambo fan but it was a double reflex save. If it wasn’t for the MUD in front of his goal that ball would have rolled past Phillips. Watch the replay a clear line from the ball in the mud a yard long before it stuck at Phillips feet.

Credit where credit is due, to much negativity where a few positives are happening.

As a (very) old member of the keepers union, I find it incumbent on me to stick up for Rammers a little bit. Hope you don't mind even though my "career" was orders of magnitude down the pyramid.

I thought for their goal, it was a reasonable double save with it somewhat unluckily ending up with Phillps. But thats just my view. His save in the 2nd half was superb. I've lost count of the number of saves I made that turned out to be offside, you operate on instinct and worry about the bits and pieces afterwards. Might I add, given my track record since the passing of Ms Crab, then one finds a decent wank worthy of some celebration..............

I've been one of McBurnies fiercest critics, but I felt we did change for the better after he came on and in my view, it was one of his better games (I concede it's a low bar). For me he was more 6 / 6.5 but it's all about opinions eh?

Other than that, your usual colorful review and I felt the other marks were pretty fair.

Here he is, possibly the most boring user on the forum. Go on then, what is it Billy did to warrant a 9.5? He scored a goal, and what else?

He wasn’t even in the game, and was about to be brought off for Brewster...

And to suggest you ‘agree with’ those mental marks is another ‘yikes’ on your part. You might want to look into being sectioned.

More 'what I think about you, the person', rather than 'what I think about Sheffield United's game last night'.

You're really an odd person, aren't you? You do realise the players don't (and shouldn't) give a fat shit about what you and I put up on here, don't you? You do realise that they'll still turn up, next match, don their kit, do their warm up, play the game and fuck off back to their affluent lifestyle regardless of the fawning praise you bestow upon them and it won't endear you to McBurnie or make McBurnie hate me any more or less, whatever is put up as 'opinion', don't you?

If I leaf through your record collection and tell you Kylie Minogue is dogshit, you still won't get to fuck her if you get dead cross at me ... please tell me you realise that.

Please understand, your massively well observed (but fundamentally crap) thread about McBurnie elsewhere on this forum is as disagreeable as it comes and you come across as a bit bum-licky in it. I'm not in it, because I disagree and can't be arsed to give you my time to express that. Yet you are here, personally slagging individuals off for commenting on last night's match.

They don't give a shit, no. Does that mean we should slag them off for no good reason then? Like you seem to like doing. I do wonder if it's for attention... did you have a tough upbringing by any chance?

I've never met McBurnie, don't care if I ever will. Do you really think because I think he's a good player and I'm willing to defend that opinion that I think he might see me and say 'oooh look, it's Chabuddy G off S2! alright mate how you going?'?

And regards to me responding to him, not that it's owt to do with you, I wouldn't have said owt but that was a veiled dig as he mentioned me in the shoutbox but I couldn't respond you strange bloark.

Bringing McBurnie on did change the game, it meant we could go with the number 10 behind two strikers, which is always better against weaker teams. He also helps massively at the back, he's our best defender at times!

However, let's not kid ourselves that he did much at all with the ball. He gave it away more often than not! (He actually had 50% pass completion according to the stats).

Penny finally dropping. Great.

Well, you're using 'we' as if 'we' should have the same opinion. We don't. It's what humans do. And giving your pin-up 4/10 for being ineffective in attack and surrendering possession (as he did) yet being better in defence is 'slagging him off'. Sorry. When did I call him a cunt?

I do wonder if it's for attention... did you have a tough upbringing by any chance?

More 'about me' stuff, yet you say I am attention seeking. Make your fucking mind up, eh?

Careful, WCH. Chabuddy might want a piece of your arse with comments like that. Apparently McBurnie came on and changed the match completely, single handed.

The fact that as Wilder does - changes 5-3-2 where we get overrun in midfield and it exposes the weaknesses we have to a better 4-3-1-2 (or 5-2-1-2) where we have far better forward facing options makes all the difference.

I can’t recommend highly enough putting chabuddy on ignore. You know he’s still spouting ignorant childish bile but you don’t have to look at it. It’s kept me on this forum tbh.

My take ,very harsh on Fleck and McBurnie. Not convinced with Lowe ,but where you mention his cross into the kop ,I would mention the 2 very good crosses he put into the box. Thats where we differ I suppose. If we had a half full pint I know which would be mine.

pommpey, I enjoy reading your reviews!

Some don't though, Intake. Some think I have some mystical influence in the direction of the club, massive steerage in Chris Wilder and Alan Knill's thought processes and might start some catastrophic collapse or change in the club if I have a difference in opinion on how players performed in a game, and should therefore cease and desist immediately, and let the board form into a huge circle, inwardly ski-wanking each other onto a montage of action pics, club kits and other Sheffield United artefacts, whilst singing 'Barrel of Money' and 'Greasy Chip Butty' to block out the gnawing angst that this season has been a phenomenal failure and we are simply desperately grasping by our fingernails at scraps of optimism.

The truth is, everyone has opinions about Sheffield United. It's what this place is for, and none of those at the club gives a fat, clumsy fuck about what I or anyone say, think or write about them. I'd be disappointed if they did.

"Wilder very much had a blinder" ? The first half was tippy tappy walking football with no creativity . Slow and ponderous. The 2nd half was totally different as he made the obvious change . He had no choice as we had to win the game. He obviously said something at half time that maybe he should have said before the start of the game
Not like you to be so negative. Very simplistic comments. Admit it - Chris Wilder knows more than you about tactics and player management. More than everyone on this forum. Much, much more.

What is negative about stating that we were pedestrian and tippy tappy in the first half Even Wilder said we were too slow. Does that mean he has the same tactical nous as me ? He changed it at half time and rightly so because his tactics weren't going to produce a result based on that 1st half performance.
We need to be at the opposition from the start. In their faces. 'Front foot' football is what Wilder called it and it got us into the top league. We played it for the first half of last season but then during 2020 this stopped. The 2nd half yesterday showed how we should be approaching games. The 1st half wasnt.

Since the new year.
He's a good manager and we're doing ok now, but don't forget he's also the man who couldn't rally his team to more than 2 points before the new year.
Heads dropped, attitudes were shit, tactics were crap. All could've been improved by the manager.

Like the vast majority of forum members i read most threads but rarely comment on their opinions simply because it often turns into a slagging match because of the different views being held. I enjoy reading 'my take' every week (I thought the Bristol rovers review was miles off but the recent comparisons to star wars droids was spot on) but I've never felt the need to become a keyboard warrior and resort to call anyone a cunt/pig/happy clapper etc.... just because in my view Norwood deserved a 2 rather than a 6.
Keep on with the 'my take' posts but maybe take a note from Roy's reviews as he pretty much nails it.

The beauty of the forum is we can all post a certain viewpoint that is subjective [what we think], but for others they see it differently. Neither view is necessarily right or wrong. I see no benefit in abusing someone because you disagree, whilst a bit of banter is different.

Anyway, what does the author know of 'Nun's piss'? I happen to know a Nun who ..................................!

Four effing pages of it, you are getting more attention than DBs report - that can't be right!!.

Whipping boy Ramsdale deserves an eight, you are way to harsh on him!

Norwood, I would've deducted two points from your marking the only thing he does is ping the occasional pass and his corners were much better last night, other than that he is a liability.

No really bad performances last night everybody was up for it and battled all night,
"Furious" possibly out this weekend with a hammy' injury, hopefully not to bad but at least we have cover.

Hope we don't get brought down to earth with Chelsea , new manager syndrome ? - I think we might get something.

There were some tired legs out there last night towards the end, Lunny, Fleck and a few others were looking a bit "leggy"
They must be getting a lot of massage treatment playing games back-to-back.

Can we survive ? it will be one of the biggest achievements in Premier league history if we do.

I find it odd that some folk get worked up about the marks out of ten some other people have posted on a forum. Seriously?

FWIW I enjoy the reports by pommpey and Deadbat - they’re in different style for different purposes, and I’ll always read their threads. I agree with some of what they say, and disagree with other bits. For my money, say, there’s a tendency to over-rate McGoldrick and under-rate Bogle - but it’s all just opinion. Who cares? Live and let live, people.

Calm down, everyone. I don't agree with all pommpey 's marks for last night - and there's some podcast tonight that will allow me to explain my scores - but imagine this. After the game, we're all in the pub, and we're all sharing our opinions on what we've just watched. We will all have different opinions, but by golly, some of the opinions shared will give us all a good chuckle, and that is the same whether we've won, drawn or lost. Indeed, there's usually more humour involved after a defeat.

In other words, read these posts as if you're all in a pub together, fellow Blades, either moaning like fuck, or we are outrageously optimistic and happy.

Very magnanimous of you to acknowledge hes a 'good manager'. Through gritted teeth obviously, but fair play.
