THE FUTURE ... AS IT USED TO BE

Sorry it's a bit late. Zoom chat with sister and brother in law this evening. They live in Spain (400,000 vaccinated, and seriously struggling)
If today's result came about and we were mid table, we'd be accepting it as business as usual. I, for one, can't get upset and weepy about going down one-nil to the top of the table again, as with Wednesday, I expected us to be held down, cheeks pulled asunder and Man City to go at our whistle with vim (like, the scrubbing powder) and vigour. If you have trouble with what that looks like, binge-watch 'It's a Sin' on channel four. It's quite bummy.
Man City are Man City, aren't they?, Today they played in a 4-3-what-the-fuck-it's-only-Sheff-United formation while we stuck to a rigid 5-3-2 and hardly broke out of it until Wilder slung Billy and PcPub on for the last ten when we went 4-3-1-2. Again, for large parts of the game we stuck to basic footballing principles, track, mark the runners, prevent the crosses, clear the lines. We even managed some ineffective runs up the pitch in the first half, making Ederson look up from the book he was reading. Their goal was sloppy-doppy defending and Basham can for once, take 100% of the blame. He should know that an approaching pass, parallel with the goal line won't get much offside joy by stepping out. I was quite shocked he seemed so naive on this. Jesus must have thought he'd aced out and had a free run on Rhianna's undermeats. Mind you, it took him a couple of goes to put it past Ramsdale. The goal was an unnecessary gift and one, if anything, which cost us a point. I can't say they really troubled us more. Ramsdale pulled off a couple of impressive saves and they kept the ball a lot - like I say it's what Pep's boys do - the pass and keep the ball, bamboozle, play the killer pass, and it's in. It was tried a lot today and credit to all, no one flinched, which was why it became and stayed 1-0. We seemed very determined to not let it go beyond 1-0 either which is what was haven't done in the past when we have conceded early, like V Spurs at BDTBL. I said on Wednesday, I don't know what Wilder has done to restore some of the zizz we had at the beginning of last season, but it is definitely there and if we are going down and if this is what we have, then it won't be without a fight.
The defence stayed as a five line throughout most of the game, and that stopped us Wilderballing it too much and stopped Norwood's options of a ping, which he did once and put on the head of Zinchenko. I am growing in confidence now with Ampadu alongside Egan and that frees the big Irishman to do what he does best. For once the back three looks moderately settled if a bit weak on Basham's side now if anything. Midfield still looks a bit s - t - r - e - t - c - h - e - d at times and Man City played a fluily dynamic system sometimes with three and sometimes with four in there which drew the inevitable card for Norwood which was a shame. Up front I still think we need that link man because the three man midfield is so flat and defensive. When Didsy came on it seemed to much more active and then with the double mischief of Sharp and McPub, Man City actually appeared worried. Good work Wilder.
Ramsdale 7.5/10: Some good saves. Looking more confident and less nervy. His kicking though is the fucking unwiped anus of Satan
Baldock 7.5/10: Pinned back but very involved in keeping Foden and Zinchenko out. Usual Furious George stuff, chest out, unflinching and committed
Basham 5/10: Loses a point for his positional silliness for their goal. He is also not very good at headers. C'mon Bash, FFS.
Egan 7.5/10: Dogged performance getting in the way of almost everything. Just don't take the fucking ball up the pitch again, though.
Ampadu 7/10: A decent game from him. A lot of attacks came in on his channel and he worked hard to deal with obviously more skilled and quicker players than he. Could have done better with their goal though.
Bogle 5.5/10: Like Baldock, sat deep and did well to deal with the double menace of Torres and the overlapping Walker, even if he was caught flat footed in the first half at times - for the goal, for example
Lundstram 6.5.10: Usual on/off/on outing for Lunny. Sometimes he just looks a bit over his head, especially playing against a midfield like today
Norwood 7/10: Good work from Norwood and again, using the central channels well, even if Brewster is a bit fucking clueless. At times he was bypassed and outnumbered
Fleck 7.5/10: Good match for Fleck, save for some shit-your-pants moments in possession. Wish that crack on goal would have crept in.
Brewster 3/10: Poor kid. He is starting to become a bit redundant. He'd best score a goal soon.
Burke 7.5/10: Not much to go on because the rest of the team were busy up the other end of the pitch. He did fall back to help a lot and as ever, shows blistering pace when his afterburner is lit
McGoldrick 7/10: A good replacement for Brewster, because he has that ability to get into areas where the long ball will be and also take it down cleverly to gain and keep possession
Sharp 6/10: Nuisance. City didn't like him.
McPub 7/10: Stayed on his feet and again, won the aerial battle to bring Sharp into the game. They didn't like him either.
Wilder 8/10: Thought he did well today and shaped his team into a difficult, organised outfit, a long way from Spurs at home and Southampton away, where we just fucking gave up.
I do think we may have the ability to go above WBA. If we beat them next, that's one point behind and they will then get all 50p/20p in the old dung-button department. It's staying above them that will be the difficult bit and then overhauling the next team - possibly the 'ya-fukkahz-ya-fukkahz, ya-dorty-greet-fukkahz, howay-the-bonnie-little-fishies' to finish top of the relegated lot. Note: I am not entertaining the thought of us not being relegated. Ian Wright however thinks we'll do it ...

Still think these fucking TV directors need a swift kick in the potatoes. What is it with lingering views on non-playing staff when you can head the game going on?
