Sorry it's a bit late. Zoom chat with sister and brother in law this evening. They live in Spain (400,000 vaccinated, and seriously struggling)

If today's result came about and we were mid table, we'd be accepting it as business as usual. I, for one, can't get upset and weepy about going down one-nil to the top of the table again, as with Wednesday, I expected us to be held down, cheeks pulled asunder and Man City to go at our whistle with vim (like, the scrubbing powder) and vigour. If you have trouble with what that looks like, binge-watch 'It's a Sin' on channel four. It's quite bummy.

Man City are Man City, aren't they?, Today they played in a 4-3-what-the-fuck-it's-only-Sheff-United formation while we stuck to a rigid 5-3-2 and hardly broke out of it until Wilder slung Billy and PcPub on for the last ten when we went 4-3-1-2. Again, for large parts of the game we stuck to basic footballing principles, track, mark the runners, prevent the crosses, clear the lines. We even managed some ineffective runs up the pitch in the first half, making Ederson look up from the book he was reading. Their goal was sloppy-doppy defending and Basham can for once, take 100% of the blame. He should know that an approaching pass, parallel with the goal line won't get much offside joy by stepping out. I was quite shocked he seemed so naive on this. Jesus must have thought he'd aced out and had a free run on Rhianna's undermeats. Mind you, it took him a couple of goes to put it past Ramsdale. The goal was an unnecessary gift and one, if anything, which cost us a point. I can't say they really troubled us more. Ramsdale pulled off a couple of impressive saves and they kept the ball a lot - like I say it's what Pep's boys do - the pass and keep the ball, bamboozle, play the killer pass, and it's in. It was tried a lot today and credit to all, no one flinched, which was why it became and stayed 1-0. We seemed very determined to not let it go beyond 1-0 either which is what was haven't done in the past when we have conceded early, like V Spurs at BDTBL. I said on Wednesday, I don't know what Wilder has done to restore some of the zizz we had at the beginning of last season, but it is definitely there and if we are going down and if this is what we have, then it won't be without a fight.

The defence stayed as a five line throughout most of the game, and that stopped us Wilderballing it too much and stopped Norwood's options of a ping, which he did once and put on the head of Zinchenko. I am growing in confidence now with Ampadu alongside Egan and that frees the big Irishman to do what he does best. For once the back three looks moderately settled if a bit weak on Basham's side now if anything. Midfield still looks a bit s - t - r - e - t - c - h - e - d at times and Man City played a fluily dynamic system sometimes with three and sometimes with four in there which drew the inevitable card for Norwood which was a shame. Up front I still think we need that link man because the three man midfield is so flat and defensive. When Didsy came on it seemed to much more active and then with the double mischief of Sharp and McPub, Man City actually appeared worried. Good work Wilder.

Ramsdale 7.5/10: Some good saves. Looking more confident and less nervy. His kicking though is the fucking unwiped anus of Satan
Baldock 7.5/10: Pinned back but very involved in keeping Foden and Zinchenko out. Usual Furious George stuff, chest out, unflinching and committed
Basham 5/10: Loses a point for his positional silliness for their goal. He is also not very good at headers. C'mon Bash, FFS.
Egan 7.5/10: Dogged performance getting in the way of almost everything. Just don't take the fucking ball up the pitch again, though.
Ampadu 7/10: A decent game from him. A lot of attacks came in on his channel and he worked hard to deal with obviously more skilled and quicker players than he. Could have done better with their goal though.
Bogle 5.5/10: Like Baldock, sat deep and did well to deal with the double menace of Torres and the overlapping Walker, even if he was caught flat footed in the first half at times - for the goal, for example
Lundstram 6.5.10: Usual on/off/on outing for Lunny. Sometimes he just looks a bit over his head, especially playing against a midfield like today
Norwood 7/10: Good work from Norwood and again, using the central channels well, even if Brewster is a bit fucking clueless. At times he was bypassed and outnumbered
Fleck 7.5/10: Good match for Fleck, save for some shit-your-pants moments in possession. Wish that crack on goal would have crept in.
Brewster 3/10: Poor kid. He is starting to become a bit redundant. He'd best score a goal soon.
Burke 7.5/10: Not much to go on because the rest of the team were busy up the other end of the pitch. He did fall back to help a lot and as ever, shows blistering pace when his afterburner is lit

McGoldrick 7/10: A good replacement for Brewster, because he has that ability to get into areas where the long ball will be and also take it down cleverly to gain and keep possession
Sharp 6/10: Nuisance. City didn't like him.
McPub 7/10: Stayed on his feet and again, won the aerial battle to bring Sharp into the game. They didn't like him either.

Wilder 8/10: Thought he did well today and shaped his team into a difficult, organised outfit, a long way from Spurs at home and Southampton away, where we just fucking gave up.

I do think we may have the ability to go above WBA. If we beat them next, that's one point behind and they will then get all 50p/20p in the old dung-button department. It's staying above them that will be the difficult bit and then overhauling the next team - possibly the 'ya-fukkahz-ya-fukkahz, ya-dorty-greet-fukkahz, howay-the-bonnie-little-fishies' to finish top of the relegated lot. Note: I am not entertaining the thought of us not being relegated. Ian Wright however thinks we'll do it ...

Still think these fucking TV directors need a swift kick in the potatoes. What is it with lingering views on non-playing staff when you can head the game going on?

Would have given Brewster a 4, moving in the right direction but that powerless shot was more like a pass to the keeper, on target at least.

Hey up they are good marks pommpey you had yer leg oer or summat?
I thought we were distinctly average, I know it is Man City who are way better than Man U but still. What a terrible goal to give away Ampadu back to his old self started it off with the wayward header then Bogle made a mess of it but did hold their player up. Ampadu then misses the tackle dangling his leg about again and they are in WTF Bash thought he was doing I will never know those three only get a 5 mark from me the rest get a 6 apart from Fleck and Ramsdale our best players who get a 7.
I thought it was an utterly boring game where City once in front knew it was game over and all they had to do was keep the ball and didn't they do it well, our lads never got a second on the ball without being chased or harried. City have the top players but they don't half work hard too. For me it turned into a bore fest so much so I fell into a beer induced sleep just as Billy was coming on, seems I didn't miss too much.

Can’t disagree with any of that. Much better the last 2 games. For me I would have brought Burke off earlier with an eye on tues which is now a huge game. Left hand side worries me as Bogle is playing out of position. Fleck has improved massively though which helps. lets just get Past 11 points and have cup run and go from there.

I brought this up with my nephew who does quite a bit of work for Sky football, a couple of years ago and he said the directors insist on focusing on managers even during play. It too drives me mad.

Marks for Brewster generous in my opinion, the kid needs to show some desire, Sharp is much more effective at a similar role. Don't understand why Brewster gets the nod in front of him.

Nice that Ramsdale actually earned a decent mark and yesterday might help with his confidence.

I thought you were overly generous with Ampadu and Fleck. I thought Ampadu was quiet and didn't try to force himself more into the game, so has to be at least one full mark behind Egan.

Fleck was 7.5 for his forward play but gave the ball away twice in dangerous positions and showed Lundstram-like levels of can't be arsed, to win it back.

Otherwise steady as she goes, my hearty.

Rammers made some saves that were borderline ............ would expect a prem keeper to make / good save. He also cleanly caught some routine crosses. So yep, I'm more than happy there. His confidence is growing and perhaps we are starting to see that there is a goalkeeper hiding in there somewhere.

Fleck was like the Fleck we all know and love............ confident and tidy on the ball. As you say though, he did get caught in possession a couple of times in dangerous areas. However if he's discouraged from keeping hold of the ball then it may affect the positive contribution he makes. It's a difficult one, but my ticker can't be doing with too many of the scary Fleck moments.

I thought Brewster linked play well a couple of times, but yep, he needs to do a lot more - especially in and around the goal. I know there is little service atm but he doesn't even seem to get himself into any goal scoring positions. Hopefully he will improve in time.

I love Burke. If he could add finishing to his game he'd be in a top 6 side. He is a menace and definitely what we need right now. He is an outlet and a real handful for defenders.

All in all, and obviously result apart, I was pleased with how we went about our business yesterday. We need to take that now into Tuesday and rip WBA a new 'un.

I'd kind of agree, but BDTBL...

It's a lot more 'downtown' (or whatever) than that fucking dump up on the northern extremities

How did they get on anyway? TBH, I have stopped being concerned about them? I'm more interested in Pompey now.

You really are a disrespectful no mark dick!

Was expecting 2/10 for all but if Fleck's volley had gone in then everyone would get 10/10. You have mellowed since Wednesday! ;)

Possibly not, Silent. Always best to mark for what is in front of you. If you wanted proper marks out of ten for Wednesday, I could go back and do them (just for your satisfaction) but the hundred or so people who've agreed with much of what I'd put might see this as sacrilege. We beat Man U at OT, first time for well over forty years. To me they all deserved 10/10. We also almost drew against the top of the table at their ground. Both matches we were all expecting a pasting.

Can't beat a bit of trolling from the schoolkids, can you?

Off you go and flick your way through tiktok, young 'un.

Rather than hiding behind your keyboard would like to see you say the disrespectful crap you put to the players face to face after we get back to normal! Hope I’m there when it happens

So according to you, no-one, but no-one, is allowed to opine in any way about how players play in the game of football.

Your measure is in the 'double hard bastard' super-tough bloke empire, whereby you call people out on their physical courage, not their ability. Whilst yourself, ironically hiding behind your keyboard.

Here's summat. Ever stood or sat inside Bramall Lane? Ever heard groups of supporters hurling abuse, negative comments, chants at our players when they've fucked up or had a stinker? Y'know, the cunt who gobs off at one or more players and never lets it drop, no matter what they do? I betcha never went up to said fans and called them out, did you? Tough guy? Bet you sidled up to them and offered 'em all out for a good old punch up in the car park.

Thought not. Why not grow up, laddo?

As with others who find it hard, just either block me or scroll past, eh? Your precious players (who I don't doubt don't know who the fuck you are and don't need your protection from horrid bullies like me) will still get paid, and still be footballers next match, next week, next season. What some know-nowt says on a dark, forgotten corner of the internet means fuck all to them.

And I'll leave the fact that you've only been here since on S24SU the beginning of the PL season for anyone else to make their minds up about.

I think that mark is harsh on Brewster, it's as involved as he's been in a game so far. I'm not in the 'he'll come good' camp, but I'm also not writing him off until I've seen him start in a game where we've actually to ball in the attacking 3rd for a decent amount of time (i.e. next season).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why mock their names thinking you’re clever and yes I’m happy to pull people up on what they’re saying face to face always have been.

I don't get it, wasn't even a harsh review compared to some you've done. Other than being implicated in their goal I thought Bogle was better than a 5.5 though
